I was home sick with Covid while the whole community was waiting on the Shadowdark pdf to drop. On Discord House DM and I were talking about his supplement and I was so fortunate to get a glimpse of the class designs. Tha ks House for that opportunity.
House DM's 5e homebrew was great! I was using quite a few of his rules. dang... now i might have to read the Shadowdark book. But I'm still sad that House stopped with his own ideas for 5e.
Love me some old schoool d and d made well new New school??? Dire den have you heard of DC20 latly?? I have downloaded the free rules and realy love it inspired by pathfinder and d and d 5e and in my opinion taking the best of both worlds but i would love too hear your opinion on it Their is a kickstarter going currently
I don't get the appeal of Shadowdark and other alt-5E games. They are just 5E. With all the things wrong with 5E. Why? Just too lazy to "homebrew" mods to 5E yourself?
Would you say that about Old School Essentials compared to B/X? Or Swords & Wizardry compared to AD&D? Those are also cleaned up versions of D&D editions. The hobby has a long history of clones. Many people would say games like Shadowdark and Five Torches Deep fix the problems they have with 5e. To your point about homebrew: It's easier to add to a stripped-down version, like Shadowdark... Then, it is to subtract from a robust game like 5e or Pathfinder.
Dire Den nailed the answer. Not to mention how Kelsey has spent years play testing to ensure the game is as smooth and balanced as possible. It does not surprise me that Shadowdark RPG gets a bad reputation from those who have not cracked the book.
If you don't like 5e in the first place of course you don't like the idea of Shadowdark. If you are like me, and love 5e but need something simpler and streamlined, Shadowdark is amazing. Simple.
I think that's a misunderstanding on your part. Old-school Revival games have a different culture of play. Kelsey has used some familiar rules from 5th Edition D&D, which makes it familiar to younger players, but it's still an OSR game art heart
Where's the link to find the supplement?

I had the exact same experience as House DM with my own attempt at a D&D hack. Shadowdark came out and I was like “Oh, this what I wanted all along.”

I've heard about it. I haven't had time to explore it yet.
