Join me here and let me share this magic with you. It´s going to be a dream and an adventure.
I usually show the beautiful places I visit, but I have decided to also add in my experiences of life in Germany as a Brit. My meditative videos show a calming and artistic view of the places I visit and the quiet, peaceful wanders I take through them. Medieval villages, picturesque cottages, beautiful cities. Relax and escape with me from the busy bustling world to my dreamy and serene slow living way of seeing my surroundings. Experience the magic of peering into the past and being in a fairytale, just for a little while, instead of in our sometimes overwhelming world today.

You could have stopped off in Wellheim for a cup of tea... I have lived there for over 20 years after moving from the UK! Next time! 😃
Oh, wow! Then I would definitely have missed the sunset, though. What a great place you picked to live. Whereabouts are you from, do you mind me asking?
I am sorry. The ever smiling and being so so polite is nothing else than window dressing. You never know what they really think about you. They stab you into the back politely and with a smile. And can you please stop to mix up politeness with passive aggressiveness. Brits have acquired this skill to perfection.
@@dieterneudeck8726 well then, you don‘t need to be watching a British person‘s videos, do you? So I‘ll politely suggest you leave. And in case you are in any doubt, I think that you are rude and have a bad sense of occasion. The people who were smiling at me were nice, not passive aggressive.
As a Dutchman I like Germany. In general polite (höflich) and know what they talk about or get somebody that can help you out. What you are experiencing is not on how great Britain is but what roots are 😉
Well, healthy roots are the most important, I think.

No, not pet or bonnie lass! But love and darling! It‘s lovely in Northumberland, really special. And yes, it goes quicker when you can edit out the motorway, 😂
I agree with the friendliness. Working in the UK sucks though. Dog eat dog. Worst managers in the world, with the US, of course.
@@jellyd4889 I have noticed a kind of sadness in the employees in supermarkets, for example. They‘re really nice and helpful, but seem a bit down. So that really makes sense, what you wrote.
Doesn't sound like a typical english day - weatherrwise. Instead of the millionaire's slice, I would have gone for a cheddar cheese butty with Marmite 😉
Ah, it‘s close run! But for me it’s cheese and coleslaw! Since I found Cathedral City‘s plant based I‘m in heaven!
Your videos are littel gems about Germany. A Germany that seems more and more to vanish under the onslaught of certain developments; maybe a "stranger" - if one still could call you "stranger" is more capable to discover the still existent magic of this country. Your titelfoto is utmost funny: a video about the north, dressed in a dirndl, combined with that yellow coat that´s called "Friesennerz" (frisian mink coat), an "impossible" combination😂
Yes, I put those two together for a bit of a joke, but you´re the only person who seemed to notice! Hmmm.... I think a stranger after all this time is maybe not right. But it does seem to be what people still think :-(

Dear Lauren, great Video again and - you have so much luck to see our German landscapes and learn about our history which is not only bout the history lessons in school worldwide - you see that there were way more people in Germany who tried to prevent the Chaos in 1938 - 1945. @@Eisenstaub thank you! I was so surprised that I didn‘t hear of this until now- after so many years in Germany.
The Baltic was formed by the last Ice-Age. That is only some 20000 years ago or less. That means, those sandcliffs will not last forever. When they erode forests take over because the trees can root then. That is why you find a lot of mostly beech and alder forests along the Baltic Coast of Schleswig-Holstein where the land is some 30 feet or more above sea-level and then drops down to the coastline. Sandy beaches are rare, mostly it is pebbles, more irregular ones than at the British coast and there are lots of broken flintstones among them.

I guess most countries have their bureaucratic nooks and crannies. I'm German and when I went to France to study for a year in 1989, my university told me to get a carte de séjour, i.e. a paper saying I legally stayed there. I decided to skip it - but another German ventured into this and had to fetch (among other stuff) medical certificates, a landlord's certification and his mother's affidavit about his monthly allowance - all in French and at stupidly close deadlines. He said that by the time he realized what nightmare this was going to be, there was no way back as the French authorities now knew he existed and where he could be found if and when they wanted to harrass him. I later learned that Luxembourg students were advised by some national student organisation to skip that nonsense in France but to get a registration when studying in Germany: Much easier to do - and necessary to borrow books in the university libraries... So we were officially approved as being less bureaucratic and more reasonable than the French by a neutral country... oof!
Ha! I understand this feeling...I remember there were a few short hours when Wales was "better" than Germany at football, we were further in the EM...
The Northumberland coast is really special - I spent a few weeks there on a youth exchange many years ago and always wondered how this area is so little known to overseas visitors.
@@notroll1279 I completely agree. I was enchanted. I would love to go back for much longer.

Sort of proud that Norwegian vikings "found" Britain first, but I really don't like what they did at Lindisfarne. The Norwegian vikings settled in Ireland and the north of Scotland. Danish vikings settled in England. Thanks for yet an amazing video😊
Honestly, since I visited Norway for a few weeks, it´s so obvious to me that the Norwegians were an influence in the places you mention. It is really sad that there was so much destruction and bloodshed, yes. But it seems many really wanted to simply settle and make a good life in a gentler climate. Thank you so much!
You went on holy ground! The wide open spaces and that magical light! 😊
@@susannabonke8552 it was wonderful!
I am German but I was living in England for a few years (Gravesend, east of London) and I really miss the country. I totally understand that the Brits don't want so many foreigners in their lovely country because housing is scarce, prices are already very high, I get it, but still I miss England badly.
Ah, I´m so glad you liked it. It is difficult with immigration. It´s easy to forget how small Britain is. House prices are also very high, I find, and the standard low at the cheaper end of the scale. Much lower than in Germany. Sending you a big British hug xxx
"I'm going to see the very first things that the Vikings laid their eyes on in Britain" - camera pans to a stone with a "No Parking" sign! Great video, glad you had some sunshine.
Oh, I love it that you noticed it!!!
Actually the Danish Vikings had to sail long distances in their open boats, without any sight of land, unlike the Norwegians, who are able to see the islands in the sea as shadows on the Horizon, but it may have been an accident that they actually hit Lindisfarne in search of riches? Sorry friends! Finn. Denmark
I really want the Danes and Norwegians to start fighting in my comment section...! (Really, not joking!) I´d find that fantastic... I need Hans to notice this comment. Welcome, Finn, I love your country btw!
@@LaureninGermany During a Lecture by a Danish Author and Historian: Palle Lauring, he named we knew the size of the Danish and the Norwegian Leding (The ships a King could claim from his Chiefs during a war!). The Norwegian Leding was never claimed in Full and it was below 400 ships! But the Danish Leding, were near 4000 ships and claimed several times during attacks on England (The pure logistics of sailing that many ships on open sea for days)!!! The last time in - 1086, by King Knud 4th. (Saint!!), who couldn't decide when to give the order to Attack and in the end had to flee from his Chiefs, from the Ledings gathering place, for month, near the huge "Aggersborg Ring Castle", and down in Jutland, til he ended on the island of Fyn and claimed the "Church Peace" by the Alter in Albani (A British Saint!) Church in Odense! But Vikings didn't care about such - nonsense and killed him in the Church with his men and his Bishop!! The Kings and the Bishops bones are still to be seen below glass in the Crypt below the Church! Finn
The Church couldn't leave this as unnoticed, so soon "Wonders" started to happen by his grave and he Officially became declared a Saint, though not very Saintly during his life!!!
Honestly, that says it all...
No they did exactly what they wanted to do. Norway and Britain had already been trading for centuries and knew the monasteries was unprotected riches.
I visited London 3 times, have been to Oxford once and loved them. I also have friends who live in the UK and for who I feel very sorry for, since they voted for remain. Before Brex(sh)it, I would've loved to explore more of the UK. But since the people in the UK voted for Brex(sh)it, I don't feel welcome there anymore, which makes me sad. The vote for Brex(sh)it is a huge "Stay away!" sign for me.
Honestly, please go and visit. You´ll feel so welcome. The news portrays only an exaggerated, negative image. This makes me so sad, thinking that you don´t feel welcome.

@@bonito34 ach…. I just saw what you’re referring to. Well it wasn‘t me and I‘m not even English. But if you use that as a reason to be rude to me, keep on scrolling when you see my face.
Hello - Your video is great, but the title is misunderstanding. I hope to hear realy something about tourism since brexit. So I for me have decided not to visit Britain any more, because EU citizens need now a passport. In Germany where I am living You have a strong burocratic way to get a passport and it needs in my hometown about 6 months. So this circumstances let me visit countries where I need only my identy card. I think they handle European tourist like strangers from oversea. In other countries outside the EU, for example Norway or Suisse, You don't need a passport
I´m genuinely sorry if my title misled you, Holger! I actually wanted to show that the British were very welcoming to tourists, rather than the border control things. I really thought about it, as I do not want anyone to feel tricked into clicking. I actually entered on a German passport and it wasn´t anything unusual for me. I always had to show my passport in the past (British) and this time I used my German one as I was worried about the Schengen rules being a problem when I left the UK. I had got myself a German passport as I am used to needing an actually passport to travel, we don´t have ID cards in Britain. Maybe this is why I didn´t think about this in connection with the title.
There's this theory that the Brits are planning to widen the Channel😂
No.... you´re joking, right?!!
The Brexit was no smart move... To say it friendly... Business wise they made it more complicated than other European countries which are not in the EU...🤓 It was ok until the transition phase ended in 2020. Then it became awful...
I agree... it´s very sad that it happened.
What an inspiration you are Lauren ! Thankyou
@@gparry42 aw, thank you so much!
Great video, Lauren. As usual i had to watch it twice. There are so much untold about Lindisfarne still. Hundred of Vikings against a small flock of God serving monks, is not really fair play. But it happened and changed the course of Europes history forever. Despite historical evidence points out all three Scandinavian countries as viking nations, i suspect the Norwegians started it. "Vik" in Norwegian, means "bay". And "ing" is just a way to end a word. (Ex: He is a Tromsø vær-ing) A person from Tromsø. Besides; opposite of a land of milk and honey, like Denmark or Sweden, for that matter, Norway one thousand years ago must have been very difficult to survive in. Remember we used to have the "ættestup" in Norway. ((When mama and papa got to old to contribute to the tribe we used to lead them to the top of a mountain.. and push them gently into the other world) Truly we act a little bit different today but most of us today follow the laws of nature. For better and for worse. Norwegian logic is really slightly different from ordinary human logic. Again; great video. Looking forward to the next one 👍
I am so glad I was in Norway before I went. It was so soft on that island compared to Norway, the climate, everything felt so much less hostile to human life. I bet the vikings thought they had found paradise. I can understand Norwegians having a very strong snese of logic, How else to survive in that beautiful, but immensely challenging country?! Bay as in where the sea goes in a curve? Or as in howling wolves?
@@LaureninGermany Bay as the ocean meets the land in a curve. Or fjord. By the way; the greatest concentration of germanic dna is found in the area of the Oslo fjord. (Norway/Sweden). Just maybe the germanic tribes stem from southern Scandinavia, rathter than from Germany. Maybe thats why germanic tribes allways fought each others. (And everybody else) Over the span of a thousand years things has gotten better. The Vikings was ...not good.
What a lovely presenter. A real Gem for the Uk.Background music is very fitting too.
Oh, thank you so much! The music is very important to me, I´m so glad you like it!
@@LaureninGermany Hi lauren,l just wanted to ask,has the Uk changed for you since your last visit. Does it feel european or something different. Did you feel less welcome at border control. I ask because as a brit because l wonder if visitors feel more intimidated since brexit.I hope a new government will make it a friendlier place to visit. Glad you sensed the ancient cultural connections.
I did feel a bit less welcome at border control, Colin. It felt different and less welcoming than last time, more like they were being very careful about who they let in. I will see if it´s the same next time. I have high hopes for the new government...I hope these are not famous last words, but it can hardly get worse...
@@LaureninGermany Yes l have heard this from many visitors. An underlying sense of hostility from the border guards. This makes me feel very sad. I want my country to feel warm and welcoming for visitors. The last government caused a lot of damage. It will take some time for Labour to repair the damage. It has given the UK a bad reputation.Old habits die hard.
You are right, and it´s unforgivable really.
