  • Culture shocks are real. I have decided to share my experiences of life in Germany as a Brit, as well as the beautiful places I am lucky enough to visit.
My meditative videos show a calming and artistic view of the places I visit and the quiet, peaceful wanders I take through them. Medieval villages, picturesque cottages, beautiful cities. Relax and escape with me from the busy bustling world to my dreamy and serene slow living way of seeing my surroundings. Experience the magic of peering into the past and being in a fairytale, just for a little while.

True that! It's pretty normal for us Thuringians to know all those places pretty well you learn about in school - but then you realize that it's really not for the rest of the country.
Thuringia is definitely a forgotten and hidden gem if you're interested in history. And cake.

Too funny, as I went to school there (the yellow painted building you showed last) and was part of the Kurrende in Stadtroda for several years. Sang at this church many, many times. Happy memories. I first saw the sign "Weihertal" and thought "Oh, there must be more than one of these in Thuringia, then!", but I guess it was the exact Weihertal I'm familiar with! The Döner opposite the restaurant you filmed is the best in the world, btw! I always get one whenever I'm there.

Jena, Ilmenau, Eisenach, Gotha, and of course Erfurt were all nearby. But there were countless smaller towns to visit. At 9:10 this is indeed a craddle for wild bees. Many wild bee species don't live in hives like domesticated bees but are loners. Since some of these species are being endangered there is an effort to preserve them. The holes in the logs are made so that the bee moms can easily put their larva in.

9:11 Sure, it is a bee hotel, mainly to help the many species of solitary bees which are threatened and also important as pollinators. They lay eggs and raise their larvae in these holes. This kind of bee hotels are used here in Sweden also. - Fantastic view and places in Thüringen, so much history, thank you! And you are right, the forest looks like Scandinavia!

You obviously were visiting the area while I was visiting my dad, who lives in Gotha. That's where I grew up. 😉And you were there, when it was very cold which was approx. 2 weeks ago.
If you like hiking through the forest, then I would recommend you a vacation through the "Thüringer Wald". There is the "Rennsteig" - a very well known hiking path. During summer you usually can book a tour, where you can hike this path on your own pace in one direction and you rest in several small hotels / huts that way. So while you're hiking your needed luggage will be transported from one stop to the next one in order that you don't need to care about during the day.

And another tip, maybe for one of your next trips to Thuringia - if you go to Gotha, checkout the Castle "Friedenstein" and maybe even more interesting for you the "Eckhof-Theater" within the castle, where they still perform operas and plays on a very historic stage.

These states offer so many amazing fascinating and interesting places, a beautiful unique landscape with an outstanding nature and national parks and you can be almost alone there without meeting another person for hours. I ended up in a small village in northern Jutland many years ago. Where i still live. On the first village feast here i met a neighbour which had family in Norway, Oslo, Høybråten, and even knew the graveyard where my father was buried. ( Høybråten graveyard). His surname was Bach. Strange coincidence. Jan Bach. He passed away last year at the age of 70, i think. We had a lot of beers together, many times. There are a lot of things between heaven and earth... That cant be explained.. Indeed. Thanks for this vid.

You are correct! Germany is living history which is IMHO a large part of what makes Germany so amazing to many of us who live elsewhere. It is wonderful that they are so conscience of the importance of preservation. I am pretty sure I have mentioned to you that I LOVE castles. My family and I have discovered that even a ruined castle is special in its' own way. This castle looks to be no exception! The cobblestone streets and old buildings throughout the town are also enticing to me. Your video makes Arnstadt look so charming. My son has a strong appreciation of classical music so I have no doubt a visit would be thoroughly enjoyable to him AND me, as well as the rest of my family. The city and the forest both look stunning in the snow! Your pups seem to be enjoying themselves and to not be too bothered by the cold.
You may not be aware how much your videos, and a handful of other youtubers, have actually helped some of us with learning German words. In my case, I have heard of Thüringen but have never heard anyone pronounce it. I typically have to just glance at a German word and kinda make up my idea of how it sounds. Usually I am very, very wrong! (I still get a good laugh at myself for how far off I was with my guess of how to pronounce Wernigerode!) Thank you for setting me straight today on how to say Thüringen!
Again, another very enjoyable video. I'm sure it's just a matter of time but until then I'll be watching and waiting to hear about when you get your plaque on the wall! 😊

Thank you so much, Marie!! I actually say the German words, and connect them with the English for that very reason! I think if I repeat them often enough, when people come and visit, it´ll be in the back of their minds, and maybe make a little difference to their trip, so this was wonderful to read!
And Arnstadt is just sooooo pretty, isn´t it?! I realised that I should not wait a week to publish, that it was right to add it immediatley to the channel for Christmas. So now, I´m out of videos, LOL! But I love that people are enjoying them all.

@@LaureninGermany Aww, that`s awful! No, nothing of that kind! As a creative person myself I always find it quite difficult and also risky to surrender to one personal opinion, one taste alone - just hoping that the person who shows his/her impression in public means it well and likes it. Such "experiment" can destroy so much because there are so many people who let themselfes be influenced by the meaning of others.
My idea was this: I develop the raw drafts of my novels in public on the world`s biggest writer´s and reader`s page. My stories find their readers and fans before I edit and publish the manuscripts. Actually, I have about 1.200 fans following me and reading my two novels ("Weltentanz" and "Shadow Hall", a third one, "Die Schwäne von Tara", is in its starting blocks, there are already some chapters) and: I have Making Ofs running for all three, together with some other stuff, so I have some possibilities to put out a little commercial for your channel.
In the Making Ofs everything is about the characters, the plot and scenes, the atmosphere in the story, my style and writing tools, the historical resurch and what inspires or has inspired me for my stories and characters. I can write what I want and it would be no big thing to introduce your channel, your work to my readers! As in most social writing/reading pages most of the readers read my stories without having any contact with me as the author, they do not vote for the chapters or write any feedback and comment, but they follow me for years now and seem quite interested, also because I soon will publish the first volume of Weltentanz and will inform my followers about the date.

As I mostly mix up actual themes and settings with a little bit of mystic and mostly lead ly readers also into historical parts, they love the mix very much and also my historical themes. So there is a bit of a "connection", a bridge between what you do and what I write, it would not be difficult to make it fit into my Making Of or put it as a nice "commercial" between two chapters, maybe in Shadow Hall.
My readers know I am an actress (stage) and I explain anbd show in my works how I use directing knowlege, dramaturgical skills, the power of dialogue and the way I `ve learned to develop three dimentional charakters with living psyche and believable personality and put all my theatre experiences into writing. They have become fans of the "mix" of film-like impression, stage-like scenes, realistic and fantastic charakters all melted into a written story - they enjoy the mix of talents and artful skílls very much, so I believe that they would also love your great "mix", haha!

The page is free, also you can read there without creating an account, but maybe you would like not just to read my text and the reactions but talk to my audience directly in the comments - for this you would need an account which is easily made and wouldn`t need more than a minute `s time.
I cannot promise much effect, at least not at once, but such advertising can stay there for a long time, and through days, weeks, years also from there could come new fans and followers for you. I know my readers quite well, some for 7 years now. They trust my taste and opinion and surely would visit you channel to check out your videos. I have mixed audience, my novels are read by people between sweet age 15 and adults between 18 and 65 - many of them surely would also love your beautiful, mostly historical content and fairytale-like style and the beautifully fitting music which always gives a special touch of atmosphere to it.
