@@TheGermanObserver I am sorry that I never traveled to Europe too, but I love living in the beautiful Arctic desert there. Hello Lauren, the best ambassador for Germany that I know of!
No, it isn't you who makes Germans angry. Let me explain: a psychologist once said " If someone is angry for more than 2 or 3 minutes, it is more about themselves than what they are angry about." Honestly, if someone has a problem with your loving and respectful way of presenting beautiful angles of Germany, I really feel sorry for them. Please do not take any of that personal. People would rather like to make it look like it was your fault, but it isn't. You are a beautiful and positive person, just stay that way.

Last summer me and my wife stayed at a wonderful location in southern Italy together with a young couple. At one evening at a full romantic sunset the young man asked his girlfriend directly at the beach to marry him by kneeling down in front of her, striving a ring on her finger. The whole scene was like an old Hollywood Set Up. We all were completely happy, drinking Champagne, etc, etc. But we also said: that was “voll kitschig” and we were happy about that. The word “kitschig” can have a negative aspect, but also can have a self ironical aspect and we love using the word “kitschig” for things we love.
And yes, there are people existing, always grumbling - but we just avoid communicating with them.

Never mind grumpy people. Once I missed S-Bahn for seconds, runs every 15 minutes. As german native speaker I always thought „kitschig“ only applies to something artificial or human-made. An object trying very hard to appear a certain way but falling short- I might call this „kitschig“. For example when glitter is used on Christmas decorations to emulate sparkling snow in the sun, then that might be pretty "kitschig". The real thing is basically just an accidental occurence of nature (certain weather conditions etc.) - it lacks the human element and therefore cannot be "kitschig". Maybe this is not the most common understanding of this word though, languages are tricky like that … :)

As a German, I have always been critical of the institutions. When I was a kid I was at a lot of anti-armament and pro-environmental demonstrations and stuff like that. But that doesn't change the fact that I love my country and recognize how beautiful our areas are. I myself live in an extremely beautiful area right on the French border.

I love the tone of your videos and it definitely comes across that you love Germany just as much as we do, perhaps even more! Making compelling UA-cam videos is not easy. My wife and I have dipped our toes into UA-cam video production ourselves but are far far less successful at it. In my experience, where ever a person travels, eventually you will run into angry people. It is unfortunate but it is the way of things. When this happens, it is not a reflection on you or the country you are in but only a reflection on that individual. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your videos on Germany. That`s so interesting - those negative reactions on people who enjoy sunsets (or should I say "dare" to enjoy sunsets?) always made me thoughtful. I`ve had such reactions especially by men more than "some" times and always wondered about them.
Those beautiful sunsets are a big natural phenomena, they take the whole sky, they come as a last view onto the sun and after a long day during which we have been busy mostly with material things, no time for feelings - again: Often this is a male attitude, to live like this. For a reason; handling emotions can be hard when you are not very used to it or fear them.
Those overwhelmingly flaming skies are bigger than us, bigger than our control we needed to keep up all day to manage all that is demanded from us - and they trigger something in us: Big, sometimes melancolic, sad, romantic, dramatic feelings. Tragical moments, strong hope, hurtful losses, big questions, deep fears. And hope for a better tomorrow.
I am quite sure that there lies at least one explanation to the question why some people seem to react kind of "allergic" on them. Or better said: On PEOPLE who do not fear what a dramatic sunset does to them. Because their ability to handle big feelings makes us see and feel our own lack in those matters.
Some people always seem to avoid their feelings expressing themselves and to be triggered by something which can push them over ther cliff of control and into emotional abysses. They cannot blame or fight a sunset when it happens, it is just nature expressing itself. But when confronted directly with those "fearless" people who seem to dare giving themselves openly into all a sunset can "provoke", they feel they must fight them a little. Maybe destroy their joy and openness with some limiting words and "reasonable points". "It is kitschig." "Ich verstehe nicht, was man daran finden kann." "Ein Sonnenuntergang ist etwas ganz normales, warum flippen die Leute bei so etwas aus?" "Wer sich von Sonnenuntergängen beeindrucken lässt, ist ein unrealistischer Träumer." Or they give some physical explanation to kick the "wonder", the "unearthly" beauty of it a bit more out of the way.
I often heard them express under the lines that it`s all those feelings they don`t like. I believe it frightens them a bit that something like this can trigger such uncontrolable feelings, for them it`s about loss of control. And so there is a bit of aggression against those who show their "courage" in matters of big feelings and letting oneself be triggered without fear or shame of the outcome. For some people it is pure joy and liveliness, kind of holy, a blessing to stand in such beautiful warming light before another night comes - for others (more often men) it seems to be a kind of "danger" of having the lids lifted on them, it is about hiding and protecting some well controlled feelings. As women do, men also can cry at a sunset when it hits them. It`s dangerous. ;-) As I said: You cannot fight a sunset. But you can always fight people who crazily ans happily throw themselves into it and trigger your need for security and stability. 🙂

      @shadowhall1501 Рік тому +2

So your videos are totally NOT "shallow", "all just happy" or "naive", haha! :`D As harmless they might seem at a first glance - they burry deeper themes and trigger bigger questions. It is never "just" about a city, a historical place, a landscape. It ´s about life and about us - and our realationships to our outer and inner world.

@@LaureninGermany That`s WHY you urgently should go on with this kind of work, you MUST! It´s such a beautiful task to bring more brightness to this world, especially right now where everything and everybody is ruled by fear. There lies an incredible power in people who can handle strong emotions and are one with their own ones, without fear or shame or regret. Nearly most of the actual situation in the world, most bad and cruel things start with the ego of people who have no healthy eccess to their honest and pure emotions. A warlord is full of fear of not being "enough", and so he decides to suppress his real needs and fears and do crazy and brutal things - for a glorious line on his gravestone.
All those "ideas" and impulses of those who fear their own inner truth and lack love for themselves, for others and the world, cost the world Millions of lives, peace, wealth and health - but no one can do any of this without many who look away, hide their hearts and hands and needs and strangle their courage so that it is not able to do the right thing. It is always fear that makes people assist tyrants - and it is fear that prevents them from doing what is needed.
People who dare to "fight" against those who have no healthy connection to their own hearts, always are truely connected. And "fight" in times like this can have sos many different faces. Sometimes it does not even look like "fight". But if people say bad things about such a beautiful project like yours, and if they try to limit and ridicule it (like they do with a sunset - or people`s feelings about sunsets - the power of it has been noticed and felt, believe me! ;-) Just go on, you are wonderful with what you do! We cannot have enough people who in times where there is so much darkness, dare bring light into the world. The world needs this. As we all are ONE and connected like nodes on a net, everything bright and loving we bring into it, will do its work somewhere and find the spots in the net where it is mostly needed. A burning candle does not fear darkness. It does not get out just because it recognizes how deep the darkness all around it wold be - it just doesn`t care, it is ... light. ;-)

It's sad that some folks (no matter where you go) get off on trying to bring someone else down. There is no excuse for the rude and dangerous behavior of the folks you mentioned. I'm sorry that such things happened, but am glad that you were not physically injured.
I would say, don't change a thing, you can't please everyone. However, the number of people you bring joy, greatly outweigh those with a bitter attitude. Cheers - Peter

But to see the beautiful things that surround us takes a positive sense for it. I love to see your videos, because they are a little vacation in fairytale-land all the time! German here who loooooves your videos!
I was in the Wismar Region 23 years ago and by seeing your video I am so wowsy positively surprised how much this city has developed in 20 something years! WOW! When I was there in 2000 it was a very unhappy place, lots of buildings dirty, close to collapsing, people very grumpy, although they live by the seaside and it's such a beautiful corner of my country (besides many other). Well, the grumpiness stayed, but beauty grew out of the typical GDR grey. (Geheimtipp close to Wismar for nex ttime: Insel Poel!) To my humble opinion, some people just want to see, feel and talk bad in order to stay in misery.
Oh and that sunset! I don't know how many pictures I have about sunsets in Germany- and people sometimes telling me same as you have experienced. Then I just reply "Das ist aber schade, dass sie das so nicht sehen können. Ich finde es wunderbar!" (What a pity that you cannot see it like this. I find this marvellous!). Because I think and feel that many people just do not notice what they do in a moment like this, with all its sensitivity, by replying like this! So this is my way I tell them. And maybe someone grumpy one some day will start thinking "that's a nice kind of purple in the sky..."
Bottom line: keep hijacking us! Or just me :)

    Dear Lauren,
Thank you so much for your videos! In my view, Germany is a very underestimated country. Espacially the Northeast is even to many Germans unknown. I (living near the border to Luxemburg) traveled to Stendal and Tangermünde last year - also two Hanseatic cities, like Wismar, in the former GDR. Stendal is the home town of J.J. Winckelmann, the first modern archeologist, and parts of Tangermünde were built in the 15th Century. Particularly memorable about this city are the storks, that are breeding on the roof of the Gothic town hall.

    Dear Lauren,
As a North German, I am always amazed at how beautiful our country is.
Love for our own country is not a strength of us Germans.
I'm very honest about that and I'm very ambivalent about my homeland.
I like nature and the cities, castles and landscapes of my homeland very much.
On the other hand, there is also the upbringing I received and I was not encouraged to really love my country.
It has to do with the second world war I think because my father was a soldier and when he was after the war he was captured by British soldiers and he was treated very well but he was also marked by the war and traumatized like many people at that time .
Once by the war itself, but also by knowing he served an inhuman regime.
Therefore, the love for my homeland was honorably rejected. Still, I'm glad to see it's a beautiful country and your videos help me see a new side.

After two month long recent visits to Eastern Berlin (Köpenick ) where one of my daughters and my son live, I found people generally quite polite and friendly. In my English, "Gesundheit" is what I grew up with and was general in most of North America for many decades. So walking down the street, this guy sneezed and so I automatically said "Gesundheit" without thinking. He replied: "Danke". You don't have to make a touristy travelogue. Hi Lauren! Lauren here 😅 you mentioned audio problems - I just wanted to share something with you on the off chance it saves you a couple months of confusion! I have the same microphone as you and when I set it up I was trying to figure out if it was working or not, then I determined it WAS working and that, since I have an iPhone 12, my phones microphone and the rode’s microphone must be so similar that you just can’t really tell the difference!! So I went about recording my videos and then after a while I was poking about on the internet and I saw someone using the same mic and I was like ???? Why doesn’t mine sound like THAT? So upon further investigation it turns out there are two little blue cords that come with the mic, one that is clearly labeled SMARTPHONE and one that I have no idea what it is labeled as because that’s the one I ripped off as soon as i opened the box, plugged in, and immediately ‘started using’. Which was not working at all. Which is why my iPhone was just using its normal mic and why the sound was just OK. All that to say. Check to make sure you’re using the correct blue cord!!!! Maybe this in some way helps you with your audio problems? And if not, know that you are not the only one with audio issues 😅😅😅 Ok, now I will continue watching the video 🤗🤗
