Im the sort of gamer who replays games regularly. In fact i would rather replay a game i love a dozen times than experience something new that isn't as great. I always wondered what drew me back to certain games and not others. And interestingly enough, i learned that it wasnt because the game had a branching narrative or open ended gameplay, it was the pacing and structure. I prefer a shorter, tighter experience than a longer bloated one. Games i have completed dozens of times include Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 1- 4, Dead Space, God of War 2, Uncharted 2, Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill 2, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6-10 and now Elden Ring. These are experiences i find myself returning to throughout the years despite knowing almost every inch of them. I truly believe its due to pacing and gameplay. Because despite a game like Uncharted 2 being exceptionally linear, i would rather go through its set pieces and story beats that remain identical across playthroughs than replay something like Mass Effect, simply because its gameplay is too clunky. Just my two cents. Not sure if others feel the same.

Put well over 10k hrs in Eve Online, GTA Online, League of Legends, Fortnite and now Helldivers 2. The common dominator that kept me playing was that my friends loved these too, had a similar schedule and has just been our nightly hangout for years now. If I ever play solo nowadays my gaming sessions are less than an hr (kinda jus to see who's on).

I’ll never play LOU or LOU 2 again no matter how many times they remaster it lol. Heavy games with linear stories that I only need to see/play though once. At the same time, they stick with you. I could replay them even 2 years from now and it would still feel like I just finished them. So I don’t think I ever will

Fantastic video! 💯 I love Remakes because they bring older games to a new generation. I enjoyed Silent Hill 2 Remake more than the original due to the improved gameplay. Dead Space, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Resident Evil 4 Remake are also amazing. The Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy is my favorite remake of all time because it perfectly captures the heart and soul of the original game while adding a ton of new stuff to the characters, world, improved music, world building, side missions, new combat system and just making the characters so much deeper than ever. It's an absolute masterpiece in my opinion! 🔥

Always happy to watch a Backlog Baldie video as soon as it drops. This is another banger. I appreciate the positive take on video games remakes. Of course the main reason these projects are greenlit is for money but that was the case for the originals as well. Square didn't make FFVII just to push the medium forward, they also did it to make a profit. I played and enjoyed many remakes. However, there is something to be said about these projects taking away from resources that would've been better spent on new installments instead of remakes. I'd have preferred a new Silent Hill instead of a remake of 2. That was a game that had such a unique atmosphere I dare say it's impossible to match. I'm still glad the remake exists and more people can be introduced to the series. Maybe this side of the argument could be interesting to consider. Stellar work as usual mate, cheers!

The funny thing to me is that the moment horror becomes "cool" it completely loses it's scariness factor. A good example is Lovecraft and Cosmic Horror in general. When I first discovered it was scared as hell but the more I read and realized it's a perfect mix of horror and fantasy world/universe-building, the more it became amazing and cool and the less scary it became. Another great example of this for me is Resident Evil 2 remake and RE4 Remake. In 2, Leon isn't "cool" he's an inexperienced cop that can barely do anything. That game scared me because Leon himself doesn't seem and doesn't do anything that inspires confidence. But then you play 4 Remake and he does roundhouse kicks, suplexes, he holds his gun using C.A.R System (like John Wick) and is able to parry and dismember bad guys in a single move. Horror became cool, thus it stopped being horror. Another aspect of how my brain processes horror. I can watch every single horror movie and I'll be completely chill but the fact that when playing a game YOU are the character and he depends on you pressing buttons to live or die makes it a lot more immersive and scary. As for why people like horror, in my case because no other genre can make me as immersd as horror. I could play Gran Turismo 7 with a VR set and get transported to that world but it still wouldn't feel as "real" as playing Stalker with the lights off.

Before I even finish the rest of the video, for me I feel remakes need to be made for better controls and being able to play these games on modern consoles. I still have a lot of older consoles but it’s easier to be able to play games on my Series X, PS5, or Switch since they are already hooked up! Fantastic video idea! Now to watch the rest of it!

The best horror experience that really gave me chills was RE7 in VR. Games like alien isolation or outlast are just boring hide-and-seek jump scare simulators with lack of substance. Games like silent hill or fatal frame are much better in creating fear in a different way, which is much more captivating

@@backlogbaldie I can't help but think it's pure rose tinted glasses. It's like the CoD franchise, how many 30+ year old's preach about how CoD was better "back in my day"? When looking at the gameplay of the old games there is definitely fond memories however, they were and still are extremely basic. And maybe that's what some people want in a video game, that's a subjective thing to want, and sometimes as you get older, things just change. I think once you understand that games from 2008 are not games from 2024, and you can put things into context games as a whole become A LOT more fun. This mindset SHOULD be applied especially with hyper fans of game series like the souls series, the stalker series and the CoD franchise.

You are the first person I’ve seen that shares my feelings on the Witcher and red dead lol. I felt crazy years ago when those came out got them both on launch and still can’t get past the intros. I absolutely hated the controls on red dead redemption as well because they don’t give you control of the player. And the Witcher 3 the combat was just so boring.
