I tried playing DS3 after Elden Ring. Just couldn’t get into it. Kept thinking, “Why wouldn’t I just play Elden Ring?” Same thing when I go back to DS1, which I played right before Elden Ring.
@@cornthdl Elden Ring and Darksouls 3 scratch different itches. ER focuses on the journey and discovery while Ds3 focuses on the bosses and state of the environment. Plus Ds3 has 2 Weapon Arts while ER has one AoW so it's pretty much whatever you're in the mood for
Man the getting stun locked off a bridge and loosing my 60k souls during a boss run is what's stopping me from enjoying ds3 as much as elden ring. Also I miss jump attacks haha
@meatbasedvegan4859 that's a shame because the main DLC boss fights are some of the most memorable in Fromsoft history, not just DS. I'm sure you can just watch them on UA-cam though, but that experience would be far less enjoyable.
@@jimmypage1969 Awesome, thinking of picking up Dark Souls 3 also, Elden Ring Was my first souls game and I finished Lords of the Fallen, went all the way back to 9 years and played Bloodborne and the DLC for the first time. I just platinum like 2 days ago and I want some more! Anything to keep me waiting for Elden Ring DLC.
In your opinion what would you say are the good differences between the games so far?, I’ve never played Elden ring only dark souls trilogy, my favourite being ds3 because of the boss fights and I heard the games were similar in that aspect.
@@charliesexton746 Just play ER, it's better than DS3 in everything imo, better bosses, builds variety, exploration, hours of really interesting lore, overall combat and probably other things that I can't think of rn.
@@avalqnche I love the *idea* of open world, but I realized once I play it, it gets exhausting down the line. Elden Ring feels like a grand adventure you start and finish, and then let go of because it's such a big thing. DS3 is more linear but compact which can make it easier to pick back up. But obviously, your mileage will vary!
@@avalqncheI would assume the same, funny enough the exact opposite, first ds3 bosses are some of the best from software has ever made. The open world means you have to traverse great distances just to get to items you’ll want while ds3 and ds also allow you to create any build you want relatively easily by just knowing some secrets.
For anyone who is reading this and is considering buying Dark Souls 3, or any other souls-like for that matter, go for it! While it may be frustrating not being able to skip a boss you keep dying to, as long as you stick with it you will eventually beat it. Your brain has its own cheat or superpower called pattern recognition, which means that you will slowly get the hang of the boss over several attempts. Taking breaks is also something I highly recommend and I can't count the number of times I've been stuck on a boss and then came back from a break and proceeded to kill the boss on my first or second try.
Also there is summoning in ds3 for a majority of the bosses, you just have to follow the side quests in order to unlock the ability to summon different npcs
What’s really amazing about ds3 is that the main pvp area has never died. Still a lot of activity still to this very day. In elden ring pvp areas lived and died very quick with the main gate academy pvp area in ER essentially a ghost town the same day the colosseum update came. Nobody uses first step anymore because it’s boring. There will never be an area like pontyff Sullivan
pvp in elden ring died, becuase of ganks; the addition to the tongues, and white rings, ruined it. PVP shouldnt be "Opt in" otheriwse your expecting a gank, and it ruins the surprise.
absolutely worth it! I played DS3 after Elden Ring and the soundtrack not only blows ER out of the water but it has my absolute favorite OST of Soulsborne, Twin Princes. I’m addicted to that song it’s not even funny anymore. DS3 also has the Twin Princes boss fight. sorry you can tell I’m a big fan other than that, it’s really fun, and the satisfaction I got after beating bosses like Soul of Cinder and Nameless King was a one of a kind experience. I just feel like Elden Ring has way more replayability to me
I didn't see all these gripes in Elden Ring that you have with the game design and repeated parts, I think because I'm more focused on the lore and looking for clues everywhere. I also enjoy fighting those erd tree avatars and they do have to guard all those trees, so I never felt like they were a reused asset just for the sake of it. You get different crystal tears fighting them each time, so I was always happy to see them.
@onn9242And yet it wasn't a secret that the expectations were extremely high before launch. 238 bosses, most of them being reused as enemies or vice versa, some poorly designed, etc. doesn't meet those expectations made prior to launch by a longshot. 50-60 unique quality bosses would be a way better design choice than this soulless ubisoft approach they went with
@@davidborned Look it like this. Elden Ring is an open world game, so they really need to rethink their approach or needing to restructure the open world. The way they took is to make 45 diferent bosses, and put the most complex ones as main bosses, while putting the about 30 remaining all over the map, normally on diferent context (dual boss fight, variations) to feel it a bit more fresh. I think that people are overly exagerating with this thing, as Ubisoft would literally made 5 main bosses and put it along the map, probably the same encounter because they dont have time for creativity due to how rushed their games are. This From approach works very decently for an open world imo.
@@davidborned yeah I'm sorry but I disagree with the comparison to Ubisoft.... I started playing Eden Ring after getting frustrated with Valhalla and I never went back. I've played Elden Ring 5 times at this point, and I'm starting a spell blade build literally tonight because I'm psyched to magic infuse the bloodhounds fang...... I can't let some crap about expectations at launch 2 years ago ruin how much I love this game. No disrespect meant.
if they just gave these enemies regular health bars people wouldnt be complaining. some bosses repeating makes perfect sense for the world. I dont count every enemy that has a boss health bar as a "real boss" theyre a level or two below that. There will always be people who dont like it but i loved Elden Ring. i see the flaws but since i love playing open world games im already used to these games having less replayability than a shorter linear game. Ive beaten bloodborne and sekiro more than elden ring but ive spent an equal amount of time in elden ring as multiple playthroughs in bloodborne.
I started my Soulslike journey with Dark Souls, played it through twice and spent a lot of time in a certain woodland ganking up on blue invaders, logging about 600 hours until Dark Souls 2 came along. Dark Souls 2 was the first game for which I collected all achievements in my life on the Xbox360. I played about 300 hours of it until I bought an Xbox one and could no longer play it. Until the Scholar of the First Sin edition released. I played that game for years; over 2000 hours, up into NG+80 and got all achievements for it. I spent hours upon hours on the bridge in the Iron Keep enjoying fight clubs and many hours in the arena's. It is also the only game in which I really enjoyed playing as a blue spirit. I then moved from Xbox One to PS4 and bought the SotfS edition again. Got all achievements for it for a third time and played the PVP side of the game right until the release day of Dark Souls 3. Dark Souls 3 became my true love. There is no game I played more than DS3. I had over 5000 hours in it by the time I moved on from my PS4 to PC gaming. The online aspect of that game kept it alive for me for so long. Fight clubs and 6 man multiplayer madness in the area behind Pontyf will forever be some of my favourite gaming memories. I have also played Demon Souls Remake on PS5 for about 30 hours before giving up on it because the death runs were just to tedious for my taste. I am currently 780 hours into my Elden Ring journey, but because the PVP aspect of it is nowhere near as good as the experience was in DS2 and DS3 I don't think I will ever get to the 2000 or 5000 hour mark. My favourite bosses in the trilogy are: DS1: Great Greywolf Sif (I have this guy tattooed on my arm) DS2: The Fume Knight. DS3: Twin Princes. The funny thing is that although I have Sif tattooed on my arm, the Twin Princes fight is the first boss fight I think about whenever I think about the best boss fight I have ever had. It is just so good and the score is magnificent. That fight on itself is worth buying the game for.
@ltdada74 hi! First of all your math is incorrect! Dark Souls cane out in 2011, which is 12.5 years ago. That equals 4566.5 days. If we divide 7700 hours by those 4566.5 days we get 1.6 hours on average per day. Which is about 96 minutes, in case you were wondering. I also spend 10 hours per week in my homegym and I also practise piano an hour a day. I have a lot of passive income and I don't actually need to work more than about 16 hours per week. I go on holiday 8 weeks per year. I don't really watch tv or movies, but I do have a home theater. The point is, I need no help, I am doing great, thanks. Also even if I did spend the 4 hours every day (this equals 16000 hours over that 11 years you were on about) I still wouldn't need help. I would be doing what I love. How much time per day are you behind your television, or on youtube making dumb claims with incorrect math to total strangers? Anyways, your envy is shining through, I hope you get well soon!
I'm currently playing ds3 after putting in over 300+ hrs on elden ring. I'm loving it! Elden ring was my first fromsoft game, and I'm hooked completely!
@@Gatt541 I played 500+ hours on Elden ring do you think I will have a hard time getting into ds3? I only worry because it’s an older game compared to Elden ring.
@reaver9833 Even though it's an older release, it's still top-notch game. I don't think you would have any trouble getting into it especially if your a fromsoft fan. I also read somewhere that Fighting Cowboy is going to be streaming a challenge run of the game here soon. He also has a walk through that's super helpful if you don't wanna do a blind play through. But every aspect of the game is great, I personally feel ds3 has the best boss fights as well. Recommend getting the "fire fades" addition of the game that includes all the dlcs.
I popped my dark souls cherry with elden ring (which was incredible) and then after a small break I dove into DS3. DS3 is wayyy more punishing but I also find it wayyy more rewarding after struggling on a boss for 2hours because you HAVE to beat it to progress. Because it's so punishing even though Elden Ring in my opinion is one only the best made open world games (which doesn't need an easy mode just use your mimic) I prefer DS3>EldenRing. Great video and look forward to you future content! Cheers from Boston, MA!
i've beaten elden 4x now, each different builds, and each thru all optional areas/major bosses. i've beaten ds3 upwards of 15x. certainly worth it, the best of the dark souls games by a wide margin imo (as in 1,2, and 3). also, the dlc is incredible, gael is at the tippy top of my 'best bosses ever created' list, mechanically, environmentally, musically, cinematically, contextually, just absolutely perfect. for anyone that couldn't make it past gundyr and loved elden, absolutely worth trying again. while elden still takes the cake for me, there is definitely something to be said for the more linear pathway, the whole experience feels much more intentional and polished, granted it takes a hit in exploration and discovery for that (hard to beat that first play of elden and getting teleported to florida or first entering siofra well or leyndell). one thing is that ds3 is much 'darker' in aesthetic overall, which i take as a negative. the contrast between the beauty and ugliness in elden gives the whole world a much more dynamic and fantastical feel overall. ds3 however, has many of the best bosses. i thought eldens bosses were much, much weaker in comparison, with really only morgott, godfrey, radagon (eldenbeast not so much), maliketh and mayyybe mohg getting close to the quality of many of ds3's bosses (i'm not a big fan of malenia, always seems to feel absolutely unfair or absolutely cheesed, with the difference often coming down to rng, makes it feel like an unsatisfying win the 4 times i've beaten her). i'm guessing most will split between the two based on whether they emphasize gameplay, or immersion/rpg/exploration elements. and of course, if good bosses is what you're after, neither game holds a candle to sekiro, atleast mechanically (not sure i could pick between isshin and gael).
I was agreeing with pretty much everything when comparing. For me it’s the bosses in ds3 that make me replay it often. I was surprised you said about the bosses without having gone through the dlcs. That’s the best part!
As someone who literally just beat DS3 for the first time long after I beat Elden Ring it was definitely worth it. It was great seeing how it set the standard and so much in Elden
Really good video, I just want to point out that you said that there are no optional areas apart from archdragon peak, but the smoldering lake and the unattended graves are also optional.
I agree fully. While you don't necessarily need to visit the consumed king's garden or smoldering lake, they do contain estus shards and undead bone shards. I consider them one tier higher than archdragon peak and unattended graves, because you can't max out your healing without them.
I played DS3 after 300+ hours of Elden Ring. I now consider DS3 a top 3 game in FromSoft’s “Big 7” with Sekiro & BloodBorne. ER has moved down to my 4 spot & id argue it’s the greatest game of all time aside from RDR2. DS3 is that fucking good
10:30 ... There are actually a lot more hidden/optional areas that are very easily missed... for me most notable :Untended Graves ... for the multiple endings that the game has that one is a must... and lore-wise is great . Excellent video btw :)
I've been a long time fromsoft fan and im very happy with elden ring. It's brought so many new players to my favorite genre. So yes! If you liked elden ring definitely get dark souls 3. It's better than elden ring!! If you see this and haven't played DS3 yet but you are planning too, I hope you have fun! It's such an amazing game.
ER was my First from Game, After i played lies of pi, wu Long, sekiro, ds1, ds3, Jedi surivor And for me ER ist still the Gem out of fromsoft and other souls likes its the only Game i played through multiple times, got 100%, beside sekiro where i just started a new run. And Overall Package ER will stay and is the best Game out of all of these. (P.s for me) While sekiro had the Most intense Combat imo. If i had to List 1. Elden Ring 2.sekiro/ds3 3.ds1 4.lies of pi 5. wu Long 6. Jedi surivor
I played ds1 and although I got stuck on taurus demon for a while it was still such an amazing first time experience. I dropped the game for few months but overall I enjoyed it more than both DS3 and ER.
I enjoy all of FromSofts titles. But the two I find myself returning to over and over are Sekiro and Bloodborne. A few days ago, I picked up Lies of P. If you are a SekiroBorne fan too, I can’t stress enough how much you will LOVE Lies of P. It’s a perfect combo of the two, with just enough original gameplay ideas to make it feel like the evolution I hoped Elden Ring would be. It proves that all of the unique elements of each FromSoft title can totally be combined without damaging the gameplay. To top it off, the art style is also spectacular. FromSofts beautiful worlds are a big part of what drives me to keep moving forward. And Lies of P nails that concept. It’s kind of like a SteamPunk clockwork Bloodborne kind of thing. The Pinocchio theme is only a minimal template to create a skeleton for the world. It does all sorts of interesting stuff with the theme.
I beat dark souls 2 back in the day. Played dark souls 3 for a couple hours but I got busy and forgot about it. I played Elden Ring because my wife wanted to watch me play it, and I loved it. Now I'm considering backtracking to DS3 and Bloodborne. Wasn't really sure if it would be worth it over just playing more Elden Ring. Thanks for the video, it was exactly what I was looking for.
To the point of the inconsistent balancing in elden ring. I think the DLC will be so awesome firstly because it’s a FromSoft dlc and they’re always good, but also because they will most likely scale the entire dlc for a certain point in a characters playthrough (most likely either mid game or late game) and the whole dlc will most likely have great pacing of difficulty because of it
I started many years ago with the first dark souls game in a time that I didn't have a smartphone or wifi. The learning curve was so brutal it made it so the rest of the souls games child's play. I still absolutely loved them though (even darksouls 2 just because the anticipation was insane) and they are the only games I've ever gotten all the achievements for.
Dark Souls 3 is definitely the best game to play after Elden Ring as it would feel the most familiar. Dark Souls 3 is quite bland and lacking viable build options and standout areas in the early game. But it's late game areas and bosses, especially the dlcs are by far my favourite amongst the whole series. I eagerly look forward to how Shadow of the Erdtree due to how Fromsoft always seem to hit with their dlcs.
Just started DS3! Elden Ring was the first FromSoftware game I finished. I had tried DS3 and BB before but gave up early. It’s taken me 4 more restarts on DS3 for it to ‘click’. I’m sort of getting there now and it’s not as overwhelming as I thought.
Without watching the video, YES! I did Elden Ring twice, and now on my 3rd DS3 playthrough (1 before ER, and now 2nd one after). Love the game - especially when you learn it its just fun to do laps. Just like ER. But a different product, both great
It’s INCREDIBLY easy after Elden ring. The moves feel slower and more choreographed. The rolling is smooth and the combat feels polished against smaller enemies
DS3 has quite some optional areas. Smouldering lake, Consumed King Garden, Unattended graves and the Dragons peak that you mentioned. Also Undead settlement you can walk straight to the patch of sacrifice. Curse rotten tree is optional.
wow, that beginning take really made me think! my first souls game was ds2, and after i jumped to ds3 and elden ring after with little issue, going back and trying ds1 just now im TERRIBLE at the game. tbf its because much of it is due to how polished the later experiences are, especially with how i was so used to be able to roll diagonally, but it was indeed a much harder experience for me, even though after the fast paced elden ring my reflexes should have been attuned to the formula enough, or so i thought...
I'm replaying ds 3 rn. I honestly prefer the linear style of dark souls 3 but a lot of the bosses are very gimmicky and feels way easier after elden ring.
I just finished my first playthrough of DS3 and DLC after having finished Elden Ring and Bloodborne twice each in recent months. I found the overall experience of DS3 not quite as fun and far more frustrating. I was stuck on Sister Friede for ages and thought the game had broken me but after a couple of days break I returned to achieve victory. I beat Slave Knight Gael on my first attempt last night. That fight was easily the most thrilling experience I’ve had with a FromSoft game.
I agree with you for the most part. I played Elden Ring. As my introduction into from software games. And loved it so much, I had to buy. Blood-borne. Which I also loved. But not as much as ER. Then I got DS3. And it was great. Easier than I was led to believe. But super fun. Just like the souls like games. Like. Lies of P. Or loads of the fallen. I’ve become quite handy with my blade. In all of these games. But. Elden Ring will always be my favourite because it was my first. And I’m still playing it. Two years later. I have mastered the art of everything. From wielding a sword. Using magic incantations dragon spells. To using my bow. And parrying. I learned all of this in Elden ring and took it to all the other games. I was born a legend because I’m Scottish. Legends are gonna be legendary….🤣🤷🏻♂️🏴
16k views????!!! You’re killing it!! I liked the little bit of Elden Ring I’ve played but I don’t usually like tough games because I want to enjoy games. I need to play it more one day. I remember trying the first Dark Souls back in the day and the first boss destroyed me. I gave up on FromSoft games for a while after that! 😂
You gotta run away at a small door the very first time you encounter it. Very easy to miss! Many people getting stuck there with their broken sword giving up early
Ds3 is easily one of my favorite gaming experiences all time, but there’s no way I could give up the jump attack anymore. Bloodborne gameplay might still hang since that slide makes the battle so fast and smooth.
UNPOPULAR OPINION I still prefer Dark Souls 3 Over Elden Ring after 500 hours of Elden Ring WHY ? 1. The Map is better 2. The Bosses are better. 3. The Weapon Infusions are Fun to Experiment with 4. I can beat it in 30 hours. 5. NG+ is WAAY more Fun.
I don’t quite agree with not “getting“ a new souls game when playing it for the first time, at least not DS3 and ER, DS1 & DS2 are a different story all together when it comes to that aspect, where I would agree. After playing DS3 through hell and back, Elden Ring just felt very natural to me when I first played it. Since the movement and speed of the game felt basically the same, it was really only a matter of learning movesets from new enemy types, and exploiting movesets of those already known to me. Example. DS3 players will know exactly how the Imps in the dungeons will behave, and that they’ll cling to walls after fighting just one of them. Not because they’re absolute gaming gods that can do everything, but because they’ll recognize their moveset, which was already present for another enemy type in DS3, and was just reused for a new character model. Example 2. Banished Knights (Sword and Shield variant) are basically Lothric Knights+ (with a couple tweaks). Only difference being the Storm Attacks they get (Lothric Knights had a stance weapon art instead), and them no longer being poise broken after every attack like in DS3.
ABSOLUTELY!!! I love dark souls 3, some people seem to have issues with the game. I have loved this game since day 1 with over 500 hours in it. Great build diversity, amazing combat, the dlc, especially ringed city is incredible. I love elden ring platinumed the game in a week after it came out, I also have over 300 hours on it with 10 plus different builds and one build at ng+55. However I have enjoyed dark souls 3 more than elden ring. I loved the open world for the first 3 playthroughs and the first playthrough was magical but man after time and time again running on the horse from boss to boss gets so old. I'm eagerly awaiting the dlc. I have a character in dark souls 3 to ng+99. It was a game I somehow could not get bored of.
it took me a while to get in to dark souls 3, i unironically got stuck on crystal sage lmao, then i went back and beat the game in 3 days. Im not the biggest fan of the early game, but abyss watchers and beyond is the best experience ive had while gaming. i prefer elden ring on a whole, but end game dark souls 3 is a lot better then elden ring end game, imo. twin princes is also my favourite boss oat.
It’s kinda funny. I think aside from dark souls 2, elden ring is my least favorite fromsoft game, and I say that as a person who fucking loves elden ring. I’m just not the biggest fan of open worlds.
100% I'm replaying DS3 right now and I would argue it's definitely a harder game since I can't just jump on a horse, not fight anything (or much) get pretty OP. It does take some time to get used to a few of the controller mapping changes. Especially picking up items lol.
Personally I like ds1 the most out of the series only because I’ve watched my oldest brother play countless hours through many ng cycles, and just last year I ventured and beat it myself and the second hand nostalgia was crazy
I bought Elden Ring years ago but never got around to playing it, put 100 hours in over the last 2 weeks and just got the dlc. Now considering DS3, thanks for the vid. Looks like Im hooked.
My mate just started ds3 for his first time... he struggled against the lizard but he absolutely wrecked gundyr with the warrior he just cheesed it he didn't even get hit just smacked him till he ran out of stamina run around in circles and repeat I was absolutely stunned
MIDIR ❤ The only time I perfected a single boss I developed a set response for every attack and situation Almost no damaged it when I finally beat him The whole boss fight felt like a machine, but in a really cool way And biggest wall and memory but more like a nightmare lol was for sure trying to kill the Capra Demon and his crazy dogs with the Zweihander in DS1, which I played first. And I stuck with that weapon for the entirety of every souls game since the start of DS1. Get the first hit, flinch and finish the enemy before they could hit you back Oh and of course Ornstein and Smough DS1 was epic and just incredible
I played Sekiro as my first souls game, and honestly what made that so much easier is that I could just grapple away and stealth my way through. However, dark souls 3 is so difficult for me because I HAVE to fight every enemy, I don’t have movement options to get away, and I get too overwhelmed.
To all those wondering about the uchikatana setup, you can get the uchikatana with the same setup after the iudex gundyr fight by killing the npc outside the fire link shrine. Walk up the path after fighting gundyr, follow the left hand side where you will see a second tower, and then kill the naked weeb(it’s not let me solo her so don’t worry)
I played Sekiro, then Elden Ring and just bought DS3 but having trouble getting into it after playing Elden Ring. Going to give it more of a chance though.
I still can’t decide which game I like better. I do think you nailed it though, Elden Ring is way more fun in the beginning as you’re messing around and establishing your character, but then I often find myself aimless on subsequent playthroughs. I quite like the linearity of DS3. Nice to just focus directly on the challenge ahead. Also DS3 bosses are just unmatched for me. Dancer, Pontiff, Twin Princes, Midir, & Lady Friede are all engrained in my memory. For their substantial challenge and their overall visual design, lore, and soundtracks. And so many others are great too. Elden Ring has some excellent bosses as well, I just find DS3 has more memorable ones. Pros and cons to both and I’m happy we have both games for different moods/types of players, but I agree one is not necessarily “better” than the other. They’re both masterpieces.
Dark Souls III deserves a lot of praise for the way it teaches you the mechanics. It does so gradually and naturally. You get the basics of combat with the Hollows at the Cemetery of Ash. The bossfight with Iudex Gundyr shows you a phase transition and telegraphed attacks, some of which are delayed to punish panic rolls. The High Wall of Lothric introduces the large Hollows with bigger health pools that you cannot simply R1 spam in one go. This teaches you to manage your Stamina and exploit their slow attacks for backstabs. The ones with halberds also have the push move that can break your guard. There is your first Mimic, a locked door and a key that you must find, exploding powder kegs, and a shortcut back to a Bonfire. Vordt introduces the Frostbite status effect. The Undead Settlement is next, expanding upon the concept of multiple ways through the level. It introduces the Dark Spirit invasion in the form of an NPC, your first elevator with two platforms, and the area boss that must be fought without lock-on in order to target the vulnerable blisters. And so on. I know that the game has been criticized for being too linear, but that allowed it to really fine-tune its learning curve. Since you can mostly only progress in one direction, it was possible to tailor everything in such a way that it really teaches the player the mechanics one after another, without punishing you for something you couldn't possibly have known beforehand. This means that your defeats don't feel unfair and your victories don't feel unearned; you have been given all the tools you needed to make it.
I tried Bloodborne and played for 5 hours and beat the two first bosses but was never having fun playing the game. Last month when the Elden Ring DLC came out I bought it and instantly fell in love with ER. I have since platinumed both the PS4 and PS5 version and have finished the DLC but still want more 😅. I’m thinking of buying DS3 since it looks the most like ER but was wondering should i give Bloodborne another chance before buying since I already own it?
Played elden ring first and have been tearing through these games. I would recommend ds1 before ds3. It’s slower and takes a bit to get used to but the level design is amazing and unmatched by any other souls game. Hard to explain unless you play it but entire game is connected and always loops back to same spot. It is the most well designed world I’ve ever seen in a game
I don't have time to watch the video right now, but I agree with most of the comments I've read so far. Elden Ring was my first soulslike game and even though I enjoyed it, I was a bit too confused at the beginning. I gave up on Elden Beast and couldn't get back to it. Then I played Sekiro which was considered a way harder game than Elden Ring, but to be honest, I loved it. Probably one of my best gaming expieriences. I finished it and felt like I won't have this much fun and challenge anymore. Recently I bought DS3 and I must admit that the intro is way better and less overwhelming than it was in Elden Ring. The game felt quite easy until Pontiff Shulyvahn, then it drastically increased the difficulty level (which is a bit confusing, but it's fine for me). Anyways, the world design, combat system and overall game experience is really good. I don't enjoy it as much as I did enjoy Sekiro, because the combat is more based on the rolling dodges than on parries and it just feels slower and less realistic (and fair?), but definitely it's worth a try after Elden Ring.
I like how the game gets harder as it goes unlike elden ring which I found got much easier due to the amount of overpowered items you can get, up until the very end where all the bosses feel like they’re balanced for NG+
After playing all the Souls games DS3 is a masterpiece. They really got the balance right on so many factors. The difficulty is beatable, the levels are not too long, the upgrades are simpler and there are lots of places where you can grind for items or souls. My only issue was the parry window was bit weird but having just played Sekiro it’s a minor change. DS3 is definitely in my top 10 👍
Elden Ring was my first game. I played DS3 a few months ago. Definitely worth playing at least one playthrough if not two. Elden Ring was a lot more fun for me but the boss fights in DS3 felt a bit more fair overall except for 1 or 2
I am a first day souls player. Started with demons souls on ps3 back in the day. For me darksouls and dark souls 2 are the best both storywise and level design. Just Gold. Had so much fun in ds1 with invasions and helping other players! Ds3 and Elden Ring are great as well, but made imho more for drawing in the casual (i actually need a easy mode) players. And the best game without a doubt is bloodborne. No discussion possible.
I mean it's a great game but you have Ds1 and 2, games that are both objectively better, and now Elden Ring. It's fourth on the list but still worth it.
I would personally go Elden Ring, Sekiro, Dark souls 3. I have all achievements on Sekiro and Darksouls 3. If you are an achievement hunter prepare yourself mentally for DS3 as some achievements are bugged.
Had a blast playing this game and then the key for the archives didn’t drop. Spent a whole week researching and doing quests and trying but nothing. So I’m not finishing it for a while! Still like it though.
Just finished ashes of Ariandel yesterday and I'm currently on Gael. Despite not being Elden Ring, Dark Souls stills really really fun, challenging and worth.... As it was years before
Short answer is yes. DS1 remastered or not might be a stretch because it's hard to go back to having so many viewing angle issues and controller inacuracies. I'd play DS1 if they remade it or added it as a dlc into elden ring.
Bought it on a steam sale and it's been awesome so far. The bosses are enjoyable to fight and the graphics and models, athough old have their own charm. Elden ring has more content variety and free to explore world which set my bar too high for DS3 tho and I've been a bit disappointed at first, but the boss fights is what make up for it
I did not watch the video yet. I played elden ring before ds3. I am going to say yes.
I second this. Just started watching.
Every souls game is worth playing even ds2
Dark Souls is it own thing, you can't compare a fantasy driven game to a nihilistic trilogy of games about a painful cycle of life and death.
Plus Ds3 has 2 Weapon Arts while ER has one AoW so it's pretty much whatever you're in the mood for
Was going to write something about ds3 but i got stun-locked by two rats and died.
Legit burst out laughing at this 😂
Man the getting stun locked off a bridge and loosing my 60k souls during a boss run is what's stopping me from enjoying ds3 as much as elden ring. Also I miss jump attacks haha
@meatbasedvegan4859 i am a couple bosses away from beating the game I just don't find it as fun plus I killed the dancer at level 30
@meatbasedvegan4859 that's a shame because the main DLC boss fights are some of the most memorable in Fromsoft history, not just DS. I'm sure you can just watch them on UA-cam though, but that experience would be far less enjoyable.
People generally perfer their first souls game the most so your comment tracks@meatbasedvegan4859
I played elden ring first and loved it. Im now playing ds3 and imo it's more enjoyable. Cannot recommend it more.
How’s the run back to bosses? Is it tedious or are there checkpoints like in Elden Ring ?
@iWestOver7 Overall, it's not too bad. There's usually a bonfire or shortcut to sprint to bosses.
In my opinion Ds3 is better than Elden ring especially for replay-ability
For sure 👍
Agreed
Really? I would’ve thought open world made it more replayable

Hopefully they bring back 6-8 phantom zones in the DLC or else this game would have been a dud for me.
The Colosseum update was the best!
pvp in elden ring died, becuase of ganks; the addition to the tongues, and white rings, ruined it. PVP shouldnt be "Opt in" otheriwse your expecting a gank, and it ruins the surprise.
If you want to play against actually good bosses and play strength weapons without having to just use jump attacks, yes it's very much worth it

elden ring bosses are actually good tho
@@wgnd1614 99% of them would be decent in ds3, that game has peak boss design
wym actually good bosses? 😂 the only good boss is nameless king and dragonslayer

absolutely worth it! I played DS3 after Elden Ring and the soundtrack not only blows ER out of the water but it has my absolute favorite OST of Soulsborne, Twin Princes. I’m addicted to that song it’s not even funny anymore.
DS3 also has the Twin Princes boss fight. sorry you can tell I’m a big fan
other than that, it’s really fun, and the satisfaction I got after beating bosses like Soul of Cinder and Nameless King was a one of a kind experience. I just feel like Elden Ring has way more replayability to me
Twin Princes are freaking savage tbf. They always take me a few tries at least!
There are 238 bosses in total in Elden Ring. It would be a lot to expect each and every one of them to be unique.
ER was my 1st but now I have played them all. I do love DS3 and Sekiro. All worth several play thrus.
Unpopular opinion maybe, but I still think that Dark Souls 3 is overall a superior game to Elden Ring.
I go back and forth, but more often than not I’m inclined to agree (despite what I put in my rankings list 😂)
Dude, you spent +7.600 hours, that equals 4hrs/day for more than 5 years every day, over a eleven year period.
You need to get help, fast.

So it is worth buying? I want to so bad but don’t want to regret spending the money.
@reaver9833 Yes, definitely worth it!
@ thanks for the reply I will be getting ds3 deluxe edition soon and will come back here to update my experience
I bought DS3 this past week - I love this
same it was on sale don't regret one bit I'm hooked.
i've beaten elden 4x now, each different builds, and each thru all optional areas/major bosses. i've beaten ds3 upwards of 15x. certainly worth it, the best of the dark souls games by a wide margin imo (as in 1,2, and 3). also, the dlc is incredible, gael is at the tippy top of my 'best bosses ever created' list, mechanically, environmentally, musically, cinematically, contextually, just absolutely perfect.
for anyone that couldn't make it past gundyr and loved elden, absolutely worth trying again. while elden still takes the cake for me, there is definitely something to be said for the more linear pathway, the whole experience feels much more intentional and polished, granted it takes a hit in exploration and discovery for that (hard to beat that first play of elden and getting teleported to florida or first entering siofra well or leyndell). one thing is that ds3 is much 'darker' in aesthetic overall, which i take as a negative. the contrast between the beauty and ugliness in elden gives the whole world a much more dynamic and fantastical feel overall. ds3 however, has many of the best bosses. i thought eldens bosses were much, much weaker in comparison, with really only morgott, godfrey, radagon (eldenbeast not so much), maliketh and mayyybe mohg getting close to the quality of many of ds3's bosses (i'm not a big fan of malenia, always seems to feel absolutely unfair or absolutely cheesed, with the difference often coming down to rng, makes it feel like an unsatisfying win the 4 times i've beaten her).
i'm guessing most will split between the two based on whether they emphasize gameplay, or immersion/rpg/exploration elements.
and of course, if good bosses is what you're after, neither game holds a candle to sekiro, atleast mechanically (not sure i could pick between isshin and gael).
I was agreeing with pretty much everything when comparing. For me it’s the bosses in ds3 that make me replay it often. I was surprised you said about the bosses without having gone through the dlcs. That’s the best part!
DS 3 is the only game that's ever made me shout out in victory after finally getting past some of the toughest bosses.
As someone who literally just beat DS3 for the first time long after I beat Elden Ring it was definitely worth it. It was great seeing how it set the standard and so much in Elden
I might be in the minority but I think something was lost with Elden Ring's open world. I prefer Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne.
The more I’ve been going back to older titles post-erdtree, the more I’m agreeing
DS3 is god tier. Especially the dlcs
Really good video, I just want to point out that you said that there are no optional areas apart from archdragon peak, but the smoldering lake and the unattended graves are also optional.
Ah dammit I knew I’d missed somewhere 🤦♂️
I agree fully. While you don't necessarily need to visit the consumed king's garden or smoldering lake, they do contain estus shards and undead bone shards. I consider them one tier higher than archdragon peak and unattended graves, because you can't max out your healing without them.

I played DS3 after 300+ hours of Elden Ring. I now consider DS3 a top 3 game in FromSoft’s “Big 7” with Sekiro & BloodBorne. ER has moved down to my 4 spot & id argue it’s the greatest game of all time aside from RDR2. DS3 is that fucking good
If I ranked the FromSoft games again DS3 would be top spot.
Elden Ring was my first soulsborne game. Now I’ve played every game before and am addicted and can’t play another type of game since then.
Nice. For over a decade, all I would play is Soulsborne games

ER was my First from Game, After i played lies of pi, wu Long, sekiro, ds1, ds3, Jedi surivor
And for me ER ist still the Gem out of fromsoft and other souls likes its the only Game i played through multiple times, got 100%, beside sekiro where i just started a new run.
And Overall Package ER will stay and is the best Game out of all of these. (P.s for me)

They’re definitely all each their own experience 👍
Thanks for the video, I am close to finish it and was interested to other souls like since it is my first, but I'll probably go for Sekiro
I’m playing Lies of P atm and it’s incredible. Expect to see it in a near-future video
Thank you for allowing us to have our own opinions.
I think the DLC will be so awesome firstly because it’s a FromSoft dlc and they’re always good, but also because they will most likely scale the entire dlc for a certain point in a characters playthrough (most likely either mid game or late game) and the whole dlc will most likely have great pacing of difficulty because of it
i like that your videos are quick and to the point.
Thanks! I always end up cutting a lot out so this means a lot 😊
very enjoyable analysis, i've played ds3 and have always wanted to get elden ring for this exact reason of more, bigger and free-er
Get Elden ring dude. Seriously
My first fromsoft game was Elden ring. Second was ds3. It is definitely worth it to play ds3.
DS3 over ER any day for I love ER but gosh DS3 is just that sweet spot they got it just right
They really did!
DS3 is way better than ER, in all aspects
Ds3 is a much better game , definetly play it. When you finish the game theres actually incentive to make different builds for pvp
For sure! Elden Ring was my first FS game, played DS3 after and it was awesome.
Yup, that four directional rolling while locked on sucks.

Dark souls 3 is better.
Elden ring is a an excelent game, but has a LOT of copy paste just to fill the map.
I got Elden Ring platinum trophy and currently playing DS1 for the first time and I’m loving it
I agree with you for the most part.

The answer is yes lol I’m surprised people even have to question this.

I still prefer Dark Souls 3 Over Elden Ring after 500 hours of Elden Ring WHY ?
1. The Map is better
2. The Bosses are better.
3. The Weapon Infusions are Fun to Experiment with
I picked up Ds3 on the current sale. I would say yes, prepare for it feeling easier though.

And biggest wall and memory but more like a nightmare lol was for sure trying to kill the Capra Demon and his crazy dogs with the Zweihander in DS1, which I played first.
And I stuck with that weapon for the entirety of every souls game since the start of DS1.
Get the first hit, flinch and finish the enemy before they could hit you back
Oh and of course Ornstein and Smough DS1 was epic and just incredible
Very solid and entertaining video. Subbed and rated five stars!
Thanks! Welcome aboard
Its £19.99, on steam sale rn.
Insert Fry take my money meme
@@backlogbaldie Fr, just bought it, can't wait to start rage quitting.
Bloodborne was my 1st DS3 2nd. Combined i have over 3000 hours across Froms games...each one a masterpiece.
Was going to buy it this weekend, they want 59.99 for an 8 year old game! Are you kidding me?
The first tree sentinel got me to return the game because i didnt realize i could run past him 😭
Damn 😢
Total agreement 👍
ER was my first
DS1 was my favorite
DS3 was the best
I tried Bloodborne and played for 5 hours and beat the two first bosses but was never having fun playing the game. Last month when the Elden Ring DLC came out I bought it and instantly fell in love with ER. I have since platinumed both the PS4 and PS5 version and have finished the DLC but still want more 😅. I’m thinking of buying DS3 since it looks the most like ER but was wondering should i give Bloodborne another chance before buying since I already own it?
Go for DS3. Trust me on this 😉
after elden ring new dlc,i can't stop saying that the bossfight in elden ring are too unfair to be fun
DS3 definitely had the better boss fights
I bought Destiny 3, never played it. But jumped right into EldenRing cause I was hyped. Loved it and I can now appreciate playing DS3.
That’s impressive! DS3 covenant trophies immediately put me off 😂
You’re spot on, playing Dark Souls 3 now till Elden DLC comes out.
As it was years before
Despite being nearly 10 years old it’s still one of the best games around imo 👍
I just solo’d Midir recently and I’m still riding that high , I think I prefer ds3 honostly
DS3 is a master piece, in some ways better than Elden Ring imo, every souls game has been an awesome experience to me.
Great vid , New subscriber!
Welcome aboard 😊
There is another optional area besides archdragon peak but u have to find that on your own buddy✌️😆
I have don’t worry, and believe me when I say many have pointed out my error since this video was published 😂
DS3 bosses are better. Nameless, Dancer and Twin Princes are all better fights than the best fight in ER
