Is the RTX 4070 Super Really Worth It?
Is it really worth upgrading from an RTX 3070 to an RTX 4070 Super? Given the immense popularity of the 3070 it’s a question I see a lot, so in this video, the next in our "Is It Worth It?" upgrade series, we are going to find out. Our "Is It Worth It?" series is focused on showing you just how much you can expect to increase the performance of your system with a drop-in upgrade. For this video our focus will be on the RTX 4070 Super, to see if it’s a worthwhile upgrade from an RTX 3070, one of the most popular GPUs according to Steam.
In addition to showing you benchmarks across 17 games at 3 different resolutions, I am also going to take a brief look at the new “Nvidia App” and let you know if it’s worth installing. And for those of you that plan to stick with your current graphics card, I will also show you how to lower your temps and increase performance by doing a re-paste, something every PC gamer should know how to do.
Remember, it's not rocket science, it's Lego … my goal is to help you make the right component choices and put them together the right way, every time.

    I just got my rx 7900xtx and I am in love with it and I got it open box in excellent condition with a 1 year warranty for only 590 dollars and believe me all the problems you mention no longer exist!! She is an excellent GPU that by activating FSR3 and generation of photoramas I go to 500 fps in Warzone!!! wow you should follow your video!!! To clarify, I ventured into the PC world with my 1080ti, beautiful GPU, I still collect it. After that, I bought a 2060, super very good GPU, but for my Nvidia, it started to annoy my life and break my head when I got my 3070, there were errors in drivers, stutters in games. but what I hated the most was when I made the jump to 4070, pfffff, I hated it with all my heart, problems in games, problems in obs, I didn't play for 1 month because I thought my PC had died, I bought the 4070 on day 0 and I said well, maybe it's Driver problem is a new GPU, well it took 6 months to sell it because nothing that was solved lasted 2 months without playing until I made the jump to a 4070ti and the problem was half solved by this point I had already changed the processor board for a better power supply Because I thought it was wrong, I even changed my old Samsung SSDs for 7500mb/s Samsung NVME and nothing solved the problem. The PC worked like a champ for 2 months and after updating drivers, the PC broke again, with everything and ready. to give up the PC I sold my 4070ti for 500 dollars and I kept quiet about an offer of a 7900xtx merc 310 black edition for 590 dollars and I said I'll give amd a chance and one last chance for me to be able to play and believe me everything is solved I'm not complaining about nothing, everything works super well!!!

    Looks like it will matter on 9950x and 9000 series of CPUs from the looks of it. AMD released benchmarks with 8000mhz Ram speeds The gold point here is that it looks like 9000 series AMD chips will be able to handle that memory speed, and that means memory controller will be strong. I am on 13900k, and although I can run 8000mhz with my Asus Apex Encore z790 board, I run my memory at 7733mhz for greater stability in games. Intel highly benefits from higher memory in terms of 0.1% lows AMD currently does not improve as much as Intel with super fast ram, but should do better on new CPUs Intel has issues on regular 4 DIMM memory boards, because memory controller on 13th and 14th gen is not amazing (in actual CPU), but it would improve your games immensely If I didn't poke around with my system and knew what I was doing (generally speaking) I would pay money to tune these CPUs. It is a bit tricky these days You can see my channel for some things with 13900k that I did

      I have a video comparing DDR5-6000 with DDR5-8000 on an Intel system (I think it was on a 13900KS & Apex). The Ultimate Gaming PC that I recently built on the channel is also running DDR5-8200 on an Apex Encore ... it's not that tough to get the memory to run stable if you know how to tweak the voltages in Bios.

    Would really like to have seen you test with much tighter control over the variables. Things I see that could cause differences in performance, false positives, or otherwise make the data misleading. Different capacity memory, different main storage drive, different windows install, different model and spec of mainboard. This kind of test really needs to be done with as many variables controlled for as possible. Ideally I would think using the same brand memory and capacity, use the same cpu and cpu cooler, use as close as possible to the same motherboard and ideally you would find the exact same model motherboard with the same chipset and the only difference being ddr4/ddr5. Rant over I will watch the rest of the video now.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech 8 днів тому

      For a perfect test I agree however most of these variables have no meaningful impact on gaming performance. The two components that impact gaming performance the most are the CPU and GPU, and as I mentioned in the video I used the exact same CPU and GPU for each system. I also used Z690 motherboards and made sure that the Bios for each board was setup to enforce all Intel CPU limits. Components like SSDs do not impact gaming performance even when comparing Gen5 versus Gen4 drives (see results from my recent video). For memory the brand is not really relevant, it's the memory die manufacturer that is relevant and even then there are differences between DDR5 and DDR4 that make using the same die manufacturer pointless (i.e. Samsung B-die is best for DDR4 while Hynix A-die is best for DDR5). Also, memory capacity is only relevant when you run out of memory ... for these tests no games required anything close to 32GB of memory, so the additional 16GB of memory for the 48GB kit had no impact.

    Imo at this point if you have a 4080 or something just wait for the 50 series cards in the fall. If not for the price drop on the 4090 , the new cards should be a welcome upgrade from the 40 series.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech 15 днів тому

      Here is the problem with waiting … regardless of what rumors are out there, we simply don’t know when the cards will be released, what the performance will be and how much they will cost. It’s possible that Nvidia will offer an increase in performance with a corresponding linear increase in price, so if the fps/$ stays similar to a 4090 then it’s unlikely a 4090 will drop much in price … it might simply remain part of their product stack alongside 50 series cards. That said, I think it comes down to your needs and value. If you can game for 6 months at a higher fps and game settings, and you can afford it, then why not pull the trigger now and sell your current gpu while it still has some value? You can always sell your new card after the 50 series cards become more widely available … IF you feel the need to.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech 15 днів тому

      I just realized that you said "if you have a 4080 ..." ... I totally missed that with my first reply ... if you have a 4080 I wouldn't get a 4090 at all ... I completely agree with you, waiting for the 50 series would make a lot of sense.

    For a rocket scientist, you are not that smart if you even consider these cards as competitors. 1- AMD clearly said that the 7900xtx competes with the 4080. 2- Ignoring the point above, you have no reason to complain about power consumption. 3- 7900xtx can be found way below their MSRP meanwhile the 4090 is rarely found at MSRP. 4- Ignoring the anticonsumer practices from Ngreedia. 5- you just lost a subscriber, since I can't take your biased reviews seriously.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech 15 днів тому

      It's interesting to me that people will claim bias when I don’t tell them what they want to hear. I start my video by stating "have you ever wondered if it’s possible to overclock a 7900 XTX to compete with an RTX 4090?" ... that is the context for this video. I already did a direct comparison between the 7900 XTX and 4080 and in fact, a subscriber asked me to compare an overclocked 7900 XTX against a 4090 in the comments to that video and I thought it would be interesting to investigate. In my recommendations I stated the following: "What you may not have expected is that the highly overclocked 7900 XTX was able to win 5 rounds and draw 2, a truly impressive result even against a 4090 at default settings" AND "... if you convert that into gaming efficiency or FPS/$ at 4K, then the 7900 XTX provides a knockout blow by offering significantly more value than the 4090." How is that bias? If anything the bias would be in favor of the 7900 XTX because I didn't overclock the 4090. Regardless, it's clear that you are the one with a bias and although it's disappointing to see you unsubscribe, I think it's for the best ... you clearly want to see content that supports your own internal bias against Nvidia and that's not going to happen on my channel. I will always let the data drive my recommendations so that I can deliver unbiased content.

      So this may surprise you but at those levels I would give the Intel A770 a shot (I did a review of it ... it has a really attractive price point) ... the drivers have been fixed and it now performs at a level similar to the 3070 ... but it also can handle editing, AV1 encoding, etc. I really liked the 7900 XT when I compared it against the 4070 Ti Super, but I chose the GRE because it has been priced aggressively to deliver amazing value ... not sure why it took AMD so long to release it in the US.

    Quality comparison! Hey...you are stacking tips and tricks into your video comparisons. This packs them full of great information, but makes the videos very difficult to 'mine' for the content that's relevant to an issue a user is having (Liam Li fans, dual port USB header, helpful apps, benchmark/stability testing tools, etc...). With respect, a recommendation for a new video or series: You go back and cut all of the troubleshooting/tips/tricks into a single video or series of videos, with chapters that users can select in order to find help for their relevant issues. Then post the video(s) in a new playlist on your channel that makes it convenient for us to find. PC Build Troubleshooting Apps, Tips, & Tricks, maybe? Just an idea! Keep up the great work!

And for the ones using custom water cooling. Even better. Unless it gets gunked up, there is no need to ever tear it apart. Just remember to chill it in the fridge before you apply.
