    Thanks for making this video. I have a 7700x paired with my 7900xtx. I had been contemplating getting a 7800x3d, but after watching this I'll be fine with what I have. Maybe when the 9000 cpus come out, hopefully still on AM5, I can get an x3d chip.

      I am on a 5900x and the 7800X3D is not tempting for me at all. My system is fan-freaking-tastic. It does everything I want and more. I see the new shiny and want it, but the sensible side of me knows that it would be a waste of money. All of the videos and pressers are designed to create FOMO. Dont fall for it. I read good things about the price/perf of the 7700. If you own the 7700, enjoy it. AMD is busy releasing AM4 chips right now so there is no reason to expect they wont do the same for the AM5 is they decide to move to the AM6 or whatever sooner.

      the thing is though with the regular 7700x which I had and I replaced it with 7800x3d is the percieved smoothness of what you're playing. I am happy with the upgrade because I get way less micro stutter. The average fps didn't change a lot in most cases but the 1% lows seem much better. I even noticed in fortnite that my son plays would have maxxed 144 fps with the 7700x but would stutter a lot which I am sensitive to whereas the 7800x3d had zero instances of that. Butter smooth all game. I use a 4080 and my experience playing games was worth it. My GPU stays maxed out in most scenarios now and it didn't before and also while I game the 7800x3d uses half the watts to get the same and in some cases way better results

    I had a R5 3600 on an X570 MB. I planned on upgrading the CPU. August 2022 the R7 5700X was on sale for $199. I decided to get it. I wanted the 5800X3D but that cost $389 on sale at the time. The savings meant I could get a 2TB Gen 4 NVME. I still would love to have had the performance of the X3D part, but I'm thrilled to have moved from a 1 TB SATA SSD to larger and faster storage.

    Very interesting video, nicely done. And great advice, just upgrading for the sake of something new launching isn't worth it unless there are tangible benefits you can take advantage of. I switched over from Intel (i9-9900k) to AMD for the first time in over a decade when the 7800x3D launched. I'm really pleased how it turned out, and definitely worthwhile for me. Good video, wise advice. Earned my sub. I find the X3D hype is more significant that the performance increase for most gamers. But then, hype works better than performance to sell PC components to gamers, does it not? My own gaming PC runs a 13700K and a 7900XTX with a 144Hz 4K display. I can play FF14 at maxed + settings and average over 120FPS consistently. What more could I ask?
    My view on benchmarking is that most users should do it once -- to make sure their new hardware is performing within the expected parameters -- then stop doing it unless there is a perceptible performance change that gives reason to think something is wrong.

      Thank you and great advice ... the other thing I think most users should avoid is comparing their system performance with other people's claims on Reddit, Facebook, etc. ... there is simply too much BS online, unstable systems, false claims, unspecified conditions, etc. for it to be relevant. 1%LOW [Orange 7700X][Blue 7800X3D] Bar
    Legend [Orange]7700X [Blue]7800X3D

I still think the 7800x3d makes more of a difference than here, though it seems to vary from game to game. How do you know that 1000 sample size is a "statistically significant sample size"?
    For what I know: statistical significance is about a result, it is not about sampling.
    PS: what you refer at 10:30 is the concept of "statistically significant".

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  10 місяців тому +1

      Good question. It's not about a result, it's about the population size. So let's assume that Intel produced 1,000,000 13900K CPU's globally, to estimate the required sample size for a margin of error of 3% with a confidence level of 95% you would need a sample size of 1066 CPU's. If you increase the acceptable margin of error to 5% the sample size required will go down to around 400. My point is that testing 20 CPU's is not statistically significant and that it's not practical to test larger numbers of CPU's. That means you should always take benchmark results with a grain of salt because you will almost never get the same result with your specific chip.

    • @cippo1995
      @cippo1995 10 місяців тому

      @@blackbirdpctech Ok, thanks for the answer, I had the wrong idea about statistical significance then, I'll have to look some more into it seems fun.
      Still I have some doubt because of the binning process of these processors, they cannot vary a lot pretty much because of the manufacturing process and that test from Gamers Nexus to me proves this fact.
      It doesn't seem to me that benchmark results have to be taken with a grain of salt because of the specific chip, I think that the testing methodology (setup, software, benchmarks and so on) is way more important.

    • @blackbirdpctech
      @blackbirdpctech  10 місяців тому

      The point of statistical significance is that you can be confident in your results. Let's leave that aside for a moment though. The CPU's themselves only have to meet a minimum spec ... golden samples for example will perform much better than the average chip. The problem with benchmarks is that you typically have no idea if the chip being tested is a golden sample, average or really bad. The problem with day one reviews is that Intel, AMD and Nvidia will typically send out binned chips so that they perform well in benchmarks ... they are not representative of the chip lottery that the rest of us enter when we buy. You are correct about the methodology being important but we all make mistakes when testing, so that's why it's important to be careful when basing a buying decision on benchmark results ... even mine 😉
