Zip-tied an Insta360 X3 to my swingarm like MotoGP! Barber Motorsports 6/2/24 STT Advanced Session 6
Last time I tried this, it flew off at 130mph never to be seen or heard from again. I'm still recovering from the grief so I thought I'd double down and try it again only this time I put about 18 zip ties and some locktite. Will she hold?

Apologies for the wacky data on my motorcycle's telemetry halfway through the video. I've been trying to diagnose the issue for weeks. Speed was taken from Racebox instead. Funny enough, my main focus for this day in particular was to relax and become more comfortable pushing my limits. Apparently, I did exactly the opposite. Well yeah, I tend to agree with the guy although 10' seems excessive. People, particularly first timers, sign up for the beginner group for a reason and that is so they wont get spooked by other riders. People should be able to pass on the straight and allow enough room for others.

    • @alixvandurand
      @alixvandurand 8 днів тому

      I use Dynojet's POD-300 to capture the RPM, speed, gear and throttle data. I wear a chest monitor that connects to my phone via Bluetooth for the heart rate. I basically record a "work out" and I'm able to save and then export the data as a FIT, GPX, or CSV, etc that I can import into Telemetry Overlay which is what I use to put most of the telemetry on my vids. The bike telem from the pod-300 I use Race Render cause I liked the look of the custom gauge I made.

    One pro tip: stop locking at you speedo, for whatever reason you are looking there, stop it, put some tape over it if you can't.. it makes you slower and every time you look you loose focus for the track - there is a good reason pro riders have no Speedo, and thats because its irrelevant, you have to feel how much speed is appropriate, and you may never develop that sense if you continue looking there.. Ah and another thip: when you try to follow riders in front of you you tend to copy their movements in the moment they are doing them, but because you enter the corner 20 meters behind them you enter the corner too early and as a result run wide often... Keep it up ✌🏻

    • @alixvandurand
      @alixvandurand 13 днів тому

      This is the comment I was waiting for. I noticed I was looking way too much at my dash but funnily no one said anything about it. I'm actually looking at the tach because I'm trying to stay in my powerband without going too close to limiter. I'm sure I can do this by ear so I should do as you said and just put a piece of tape or something over it. And interesting note about following riders' movements ahead of me making me turn too early. Will fix this asap. Thank you for taking the time to write this.

    • @TheFlyBullet
      @TheFlyBullet 13 днів тому

      @@alixvandurand no problem, I'm glad to help :) You can certainly do it by ear, you'll develop a feel for it quite quickly. If you focus on your sight, so looking at corner exit (sorry for the bad translation I hope the point gets across) you'll notice how bad it is for your line if you take your eyes away from the track even once.. also alot of people get scared once they see how fast they go, I've also seen you closing the throttle twice at least because you've took your eyes away from the track - which is totally natural, when looking at the dash you can't see where you're going... If you really need to check if you're in power band visually, get some RPM lights that you can see with peripheral vision As we say in Germany, remain seated ✌🏻 Edit: ah and I would love to see some suspension telemetrics, I think that would be very interesting especially to analyze the data together with the videos

      I'm going to upload a video showing how I do it but there's really nothing to it. I use the stem mount that comes with the camera (it has a circular base plate that's supposed to screw on it but I don't use that part), I then fit the stem into the little crevasse between the cheek pads (if you have speakers in your helmet the pads are likely already pushed out a tad, further exposing what I'm talking about). I took an angle grinder and grinded down the stem a little so it fits better but you don't even really need to do that to make it work.

    The last few videos I have watched you seem to always be in 3rd or 4th in corners instead of 2nd or 3rd why is that?

    • @alixvandurand
      @alixvandurand 18 днів тому

      You're probably talking about turns 2, 3, and 4. I think it's because of the long drive out I've ended up at the red line before the crest before and I'm trying to avoid changing gear with the bike so leaned over going up that section. eventually I'll figure it out. In other corners though I'm definitely in 2nd and 3rd.

    Could you pleas explain why you use telemetry overlay and race render? Why both and not one? Do you need to convert to one and then to the other because of the recording devices? Thanks brother/

    • @alixvandurand
      @alixvandurand 19 днів тому

      Of course. When I first started making these videos, Telemetry Overlay (TO) was not compatible with Dynojet's log files and Race Render (RR) was not compatible with my Insta360's GPX files or my heart monitor's FIT files. So I designed a custom gauge in RR and used TO for the rest but since then I've worked with the dev of TO who has since added native Dynojet support. Although I still use RR for my bike's telemetry and the track map because it looks better in my opinion :)

      @@alixvandurand awesome brother. Thanks for such a great and thorough answer. Would you still purchase the insta 360 camera if you were starting all over today? Or, would you do another camera for ease?

    • @alixvandurand
      @alixvandurand 19 днів тому

      @@JeLifeCoach I would do the exact same setup, except I'd get the X4 since it has better resolution. The X3's 5.7K is just barely enough for a 360 camera because you're spreading that resolution in the entire field of vision so when you reframe it like I do you're actually getting more like a 1080p. It's why I'm pretty zoomed out most the time and you get that fisheye effect. I mean it's cool cause you can see more but the real reason is the more zoomed out you are the better quality the image. But I've spoke with guys who had GoPros and such and they all say that the insta360 app is much better. I've never used a GoPro before but doing the whole reframe in the insta360 app is so easy. I really I don't have much to complain about it.

    You would be a bit faster if you got on the throttle sooner on corner exits. The guys passing you are doing exactly that.

  • @pederhalverson2591
    @pederhalverson2591 21 день тому

    A camera really doesn’t show the reality of things. As a former expert class CCS and Formula USA racer you can’t possibly understand the speed difference between pilot, semi pro, satellite, and full factory. It is mind boggling. The semi pro guy will pass you like nothing, the satellite guy will then blow past the 2 of you like nothing, and then the factory guy will go past like everyone but the better satellite guys are standing still. Usually while coming up on a corner you are asking yourself what speed is reasonable to make it in 🤣

    Thats pretty dam good for warn out street tires. But brother you need to see doc about your heart rate. Its insanely high, most of the time you were in the 190s , it should be down in the 150s and 160s if you have a "moment" plus the Adrillan dump for the next few seconds. Better yet if you can get it down in the 120 130 range but thats asking a little bit to much with as high as it is. So please go see a heart doc, not some regular er doc or something.
