My husband and I will be retiring in his homeland of citizenship, Ireland and we have selected the Trilee to Killarney area to call our final home. I´d very much like to be near but not in one of these two places and spend something like €120,000 on a house for two people. I like to BBQ and I wouldn´t mind having four or five fruit trees for a small orchard. ¿Possible? We´ll only be there half the year and spending the other in Spain. Should we be concerned about Squatters?

I do the same. Pretend the funds are unlimited and look on line for dream homes! Currently looking at lake property in the states but after awhile they all look the same. There is no charm and character like you find in these Irish or English manors. Having all that land would be incredible! Hopefully a developer doesn’t turn it into condos or some development. It’s sad here in the States because farmland is sold and made into housing developments all over.

What sane person would want smaller windows? Bigger windows let in more light, nobody wants to go back to dark pokey rooms

My experience of estate agents in Ireland is very negative. For the most part they are highly unprofessional and need proper training. I've dealt with many of them, many are the sons and daughters of estate and are often rude and clueless and self-entitled. They would be kept in a job in the real world.

I really hope this house was bought by the right people. This house is a part of history. I hope the insides where kept, and not gutted.

I'm always wondering as the abandoned houses look as if the folks just got up in the morning, left and never came back.

In the states. Each state has Bar Associations. They keeps abreast of the integrity of the solicitors. Some states give 3 solicitors referrals for FREE. The referrals consultations in NYC cost about $35 - 40. A time of approximately a 1/2 hr. Do you have a similar service in both parts of Ireland? Does the Republic and the North of have land Registery systems? So one can find/research freehold land in Ireland ?

Hi Molly you should upgrade the vid as having access to solicitor for convenience is not required it all happens online. John Neville ballingeary dublin handled my sales and I have never seen or met him. A lot of stuff is digital even registration and deeds are gone and going that way.

I have this amount right now and I have to leave Paris with my 13th year old daughter as she is autist and the neighbours complain when she cannot sleep, once every 14 days! but they never complain when there is music! I want to live without neighbours! And finally be able to live in peace. Cheers

My father was born in County Caven. I claimed my Irish Citizenship and have an Irish Passport. We are retired. My wife is still only a US citizen but intends to get Irish citizenship in 3 years. She will get her permanent residence within 90 days, until she gets her Irish citizenship. We will be US expats living in Ireland intending to eventually purchasing a home. We are retired. A 1 bedroom 1 bath, galley kitchen bungalow would be a baseline for us. Small plot of land as we don’t have animals and MIGHT get 3-4 or so laying hens, no more. NO MAJOR RENOVATION.
