Let me try to tell you why this whole "family" show principle is that much important aspect of entertainment and especially of Eurovision and why it should be!

Eurovision is my passion. Eurovision was my work and I am still gladly part of the professional community of this project. I started at Eurovision 2016 as Czech Head of Delegation. Such a Eurovision story! Form Eurovision in Sweden I went to antoher ESC experience. Kiiv 2017 Eurovision. This was my first and last failiur. Sometimes you need to learn trough losing even it is not plasant. We ended up 13 in the semifinal, second best score of Eurovision Czechia back then. But after this we established ESCZ national selection format. It was mostly held online. Because of this we found Mikolas Josef who went 6th at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal. Than 11th with Lake Malawi, at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Eurovision story is crazy. After finding all candidates and songs (-1) for ESCZ 2020 I resigned and left the television for working freelance.
Not to stop being part of Eurovision, I created this channel as I have an urge not to do just Eurovision Reactions from a different perspective. But also to do national selection reactions, watch others how they do their craft and also give a different approach for Eurovision fans.
I am very glad was part of many eurovision juries. Mostly in national selection and since 2017 I was in MGP Norway, Eurovision Malta, UMK national selection Finland. Juror in Melodifestivalen 2016. Biggest national selection. Also helped Eurovision Ireland, Eurovision Estonia, Eurovision Azerbaijan and many others.
Just amazing to be part of this community, so check my Humans of Eurovision, check my Eurovision reaction videos.

    I can fully understand the Armenia 2016, Loreen, France 2021 and maybe the Sweden 2022 choices (still only Loreen would finally make my top10). What about Marie N 2002 though, the staging that donated the prize to Latvia??? For me the top10 should also contain Portugal 1971, Spain 1969, Poland 1994, Italy 1984, Italy 1987, Spain 2013, Estonia 2018 and Australia 2016. I could also think about Ukraine 2007 besides the fact that I hate the song, I hate the attitude and I generally hate the whole feeling of it. But they nailed it right on the spot. Really, how can an all time top include songs from the last 10-12 years only??? It'd be also nice to watch the top10 worst stagings then.

      My reason is, that I count staging as a complex thing and stagings before 2012, 2013 and just few dont really has such complexity of those factors. They were performances shot on camera. Those I mentioned has also camera work as part of their staging so as editing and thats makes a huge diference for me

    gay rights became like a signal of how progressive a state is. and for some years this got votes and support, it helped some states get better results. so, a lot of states made more of a point of showing support and from a well-meaning and important thing it became a competition of who is the loudest about it, who is the most "in your face", who has a more marginalized identity etc. now people are tired of it because it is too much sometimes.

    Thank you for clearing the whole thing up for me) I don't hate this whole entry - Luna is cute, and the song isn't the best, but okay. And I Iowkey love the entire aesthetic because chess in space reminds me of the 80's and vaporwave stuff I like (even the song Tower has some new wave inspiration). But there was something off with the performance that I couldn't get exactly. The stage was overstuffed for sure, and... she didn't try to sell her song or herself. Luna was selling her stage, and this is not how you do it if you want to win Eurovision or to get qualified, at least. Luna is cute and unusual singer, she doesn't look like a typical pop girl. But she didn't have enough energy to provide on stage. So, it's nothing surprising to me she didn't qualify. Also, I'd like to hear an analysis of the Belgium stage this year (Before The Party's Over), they say it was bad as well and tanked the whole entry. Again, I can't get what exactly went wrong but I feel something's off with it. Thank you for your work and sharing with your experience)

    Jan, your amazing love for everyone has made me a fan. I wonder if you watched a full video of the performance taken from the audience (specifically, from the front a little to the side, fairly close to the stage)? The point of the video was to highlight the boo-ing, but what I noticed was the choreography. From that single cam perspective, I was blown away. At one point, my brain was even fooled into thinking "did the video just go into slo-mo?" until I realized the absurdity of that thought. It was just the dancers were THAT good

    • @Firefly763
      @Firefly763 3 дні тому

      Yes, I saw that video from closely too. I also love to watch the audience videos. Then you can see the choreography from different angles. The part when she sings, we shall pass but love will never die.. hours and hours.. The dance is so beautiful and strong there.

      @@Firefly763 I'm not a big "choreography" guy, but something about this one made me sit up and take notice. How would you rate her dancers (both the level of skill and the choreography) relative to typical "good" eurovision acts?

  • @stefanogortaldi3156
    @stefanogortaldi3156 4 дні тому

    I agree with most of your comments and also many from the people joining this discussion - so, I'm going to add something which seems it hasn't been covered yet (well, I haven't come across it yet) which is this: All this dark into dark silhouettes = no real contrast...seem to me like an effort to hide or camouflage something?! - dare to say some dancers with odd sizes were probably viewed as a problem by someone? I'm aware Angelina deliberately opted for using unusually sized dancers (let's say, not perfect) as a statement - and proudly so...but maybe someone else (maybe the choreographer) secretly objected this idea and managed to impose his own ways - and in doing so, suppressing Angelina's ideas?! (too many cooks spoiled the broth...). If a bold statement was to be made...it should have been enhanced not covered (my view)....in the end everything in this performance has been muffled and compromised - including Angelina's stage presence. It's not the first time....Italy has some serious work to do in order to improve it's staging - take example from Ukraine or Ireland...or, if unsure keep it simple (Sanremo's staging was perfect in my view).

    • @JanBors
      @JanBors 3 дні тому

      actually if you dont mention the thing about dancers, I did not see it. They are wear black, so its all like stuff its happening but there is exaxtly zero point of interest on the stage. Not even in a wrong way.

    • @stefanogortaldi3156
      @stefanogortaldi3156 22 години тому

      @@JanBorsI can imagine the choreographer thinking..."oh my god look at these dancers here - they aren't perfect! Let's dilute this mess in the background" like he was ashamed for someone's else imperfections? Angelina in her past songs and life has made a statement of the fact she doesn't want perfection eg. in La Noia "Se rischio di inciampare almeno fermo la noia" = if I risk to stumble isn't a big deal and at least I stop this boredom..." or in "Ci Pensiamo Domani" she sings: "Come e' bello sbagliare.." = it's fun if it goes wrong..." this theme is repeated in other songs and I totally agree with her - perfectionism and professionalism aren't fun and it would be a better world if we were all a bit more "amatorial". Angelina is a risk taker and her wishes have been sabotaged but an egotistic and narrow minded choreographer... Have you watched her improvisation in the press room? It's a bit uncomfortable initially but if you manage to watch the whole performance till the end it should give you goosbumps - in fact no other performer or song in the whole ESC24 gave more emotions than Angelina's "Imagine" - the performance is far from perfect - it's raw and you can feel it but genuine...she's showing and giving everything...warts and all.

    I totally agree with you. Singing should be a basic requirement, considering this is a song contest and its credibility will be affected, otherwise. Sadly, it seems like we're part of the minority and many people are okay with this resurgence of joke entries, and so are the delegations of certain countries for allowing this type of entries in their selection process

  • @Barbara_M.
    @Barbara_M. 6 днів тому

    Ì heartly disagree that what's important is that the show be fun I hope Eurovision won't be reduced to a joke. Eurovision is not a comic, it's a tv show based on the song contest format and the quality of the musical aspects is what makes its character imo. And yes, music is part of the entertainment industry and it s undeniable that comics, fun elements are entertaining in a certain context, but not here. The idea behind Eurovision was to connect people of different European countries through music by the creation of a song contest like the Italian Sanremo Festival and nobody would even dream of taking part in Sanremo not being at the best of their ability, just for fun, because it's a comperition, every contestant is under the spotlight, judged by both the jurys but also the audience and the music industry in general and what they do and how they do it leaves a mark for their career. There have been darker years in Sanremo festival too, when all tv shows were in playback and among contestants only few were really good and having a serious career, fortunately nowadays everything is back to 100% live even though the effort to have a live orchestra is huge which I honestly don t think is realistic for Eurovision but the singing is the soul of a song contest, its quality is essential to the credibility of the show or it will become just a circus clownesque representation. IMO.

    there were a lot of good vocalists this year. But the songs were unmemorable, the performance was funny and actually in some situations on the border of basic culture. It is not ok to turn Eurovision into a holiday of only one group, even if they are the best vocalists in the world. Too many participating countries are leaving. Some boundaries must be set. No one is talking about the quality of the vocals of those participants, but about the scene or what they are talking about, who they represent, how to address them, and the like. As for the Eurovision winner, the winner is the one whose song survives for a year with equal audience attention, equal recognition and story. A winner whose song no one listens to is not ok, a winner whose song no one sings is not ok. A performer can have the best vocalist in the world and a bad song. How to solve it. This topic should be repeated in January 2025, when it will be clearer what happened to the songs.

    • @JanBors
      @JanBors 6 днів тому

      yep, this basically count for every single artist this year and as you say, maybe would be nice to focus back to music, than if the quality of artists is determined by their specific support or belonging to some minor group. As those were the headlines everywhere, non about songs or song. And we see the streaming this year is very poor. No song rly stood out and stand out.

    • @11o3964

      well, it's football and vacation time. Things will crystallize later. My personal opinion is that I'm tired of the negative things at Eurovision, manipulation, arguments, fights, insults, threats, etc., etc. If I were 20 years old and this was my first meeting with Eurovision, I believe that I would never follow again. I just want a song that I will enjoy and that I will say about in 5 or 10 years, that I remember when I was the first time listened to ,, and that song must be known to all Eurovision fans. I want to hear a song. For now, apart from my favorite, I can only hear the French song, which is sung in all the languages of the world, from small children to adults. And that really surprised me. That's why I think we should wait for January 2025 and repeat this topic.

    One of the main reasons I loved Eurovision so much for many years is the fact that the vocals were live. So I am dissapointed about what's happening. I wish they would go back to ALL live vocals (lead and backings) It would be even more amazing if there were also facilities to make live instruments on stage possible. Nice video once again, Jan 😄

    TBH still I watch ESC every year mainly for music, not for controversies or show. And this year I'm happy that something actually good has won. However, sometimes I feel I'm watching the same contest every year, especially when I can see the 2,138-th iteration of Eleni Foureira vibe or so. At this point I miss old good ESC contests, where juries decided the winners, where was orchestra, and the stage was one-size-fits-all with modest amount of effects, forcing the artists to make the show with their own voices or choreography.

    I think who decided the performance, I'm talking about RAI and Angelina's mqnagement, really sabotaged her with their choices. Before the event I was sure she was top 3 material (just because it was really hard imo to beat Nemo and Baby Lasagna), La noia is not the kind of songs I usually listen to however at Sanremo Angelina, which I didn't know before, won me over with her attitude her positive energy and stage presence you really wished to join her and dance off all the bad dark moments of your life just like she was singing she would do, I'm sorry to say none of these things were replicatex on Esc stage. The staging although beautiful required long camera angles ( I hope it's clear what I mean because I don't know technical terms) and rarely focused on her frame favouring the choreo, nothing was enhancing Angelina or ths song meaning which even if supported by a fun danceable rythm has a philisophic and introspective topic and should suggest an intimate moment of acceptance of ones troubles rejoycing about life no matter what. Instead the chosen representation looked more like a party song and was flattening Angelina's personality, and while she was engaging in the choreo she even had few singing uncertainties (which are so unusual for her). We Italians are often criticized for not been able to do good stagings (at Eurovision) and my opinion is that this year Rai wanted to show off a bit and Angelina's management were obsessed in filling up the bigger stage, these two factors "distracted" them from what was imho Angelina's uniqueness, her personality and energy on stage, something distinctive, not a choreo or a staging everyone else can do and something imho the should have focused on.

      @@JanBors yeah, I'm sure she loved the idea but she doesn't have the experience to judge it all that would have worked out well, the blame is on all the professionals in her entourage and above all Rai, who should have known better... I'm a nobody who doesn't work in tv and know nothing of filming or tv profuction.etc. and even to me it was obvious this set up although elegant was not working well... I wonder how many people watching tv understood that the concept was "life should be dancing with a crown of thorns" because to me was not evident at all ev2n 5he beautiful throne they brought from Italy was barely visible.. also something I don't understand that maybe you, being a pro can clarify: they were really obsessed about "filling the stage" because Eurovision stage is much bigger than Sanremo and so on, it was reiterated in so many interviews but is that really such a cruvial factor?.I mean it's a tv show can't you use a thousand tricks to show in tv only what you need (ie conceal an empty stage)? In my brief approach to creative writing I remember our teacher always repeating to avoid the need to fill in pages because we should write only what is functional to the story which I think is a good suggestion for every situation... in the end a 7th place is a good result yet I don't feel happy about it because never like this year we had a strong act yet we didn"t do a good job imho. (Then of course there more important things in life than Eurovision 😊 )

    The song and her whole performance is simply a masterpiece. Not to mention her voice which is out of this world. And even the most stage experienced artist would not have been able to give such a perfect performance vocally and visually in front of such an audience of ignorant and brainwashed haters who shouting at them throughout the all performance. Not even J. Lo and Beyonce.

    I don't think it was the best staging but in my opinion, it was the most effective. the focus was the song itself and everything was to support it. lighting was beautiful and I like the use of colors. I wonder what it looks like from the audience, it was very clearly made for the cameras and might look kind of empty for people who are there.

    I became a eurovision fan watching the shows as a kid with my mom and grandmom. As a teenager fell "out of love" and came back years later. There is no problem with the gay aspect . there is a problem with the sexualization of the show. Kids should be exposed to diversity but not to adults nudity. Hopfully the null points from the public to the U.K will mean something to the artists thogh i doubt it.

    • @JanBors
      @JanBors 6 днів тому

      imo as I come out of the bubble the stigma of gay event is also there which also would not be any issue, just for true biggots but the way how LGBT becomes more and more uncatchable in the way of how many new flags and ways appeared, people just stop to follow as it feels differently when their is "all deserve respect" then "also this group deserve it" ... I can feel it around for long years how this becomes annoying for very open minded people and feels political for them rather then useful for anyone. For many it feels like agenda course. But thats just a part of it. Imo those topics belong, but cannot be primarly. Bjt also this year again showed political issues and all of those are against the whole principle lf the show making it unnaceptable for major audience on a level which respect the show and not taking a brand as a freak show.

    Maybe next time you could film walking and talking at a park!! Are you in Prague? Christer Bjørkman has said time and time again that Mello is a family show. We ( my husband and I ) have been to many a Mellofest and the amount of kids is amazing. Sweden doesn't need ESC jr. In fact Christer has asked the broadcaster multipule times for funding but the answer is no. Norway has stopped MGPjr. and Denmark always has DMGP jr. a week after the main show and they don't send the junior winner to the main event! I am not a fan of Junior ESC ,but that is another topic and time. As for the LGBT+ , yes the fan base is very gay and without the gays, I question the future of the contest. That being said, Pride is a great wasy to discuss and celebrate and fight for LGBT+ issues , not a flag or neon sign on the ESC stage. Maybe the European Union should crack down on violations against the queers in Romania, Bulgaria , Hungary and the Baltics. Russia is a much greater threat to these countries than anyone with a rainbow flag. A city is a city when it has a tram/ trolley system!!

      I agree but as you say, prides are one thing and Eurovision other. Contest is not here to fight for rights of anyone as it implicates equality. But being sad, family program does not mean for kids, it means for everyone, with whatever political views.

      and as you say about other countries you mentioned - I also agree with one main but, the agressive campaing will not work and will cause even worse damages. As I can observe, the majority of people is simply fed up so instead of being more open, more agressively you push it, less it will work. Which is very said from my point of view but it is also a reality and that also not mean bad people are living here f.e. in Romania. But the specifics and history are different and we must also respect this. Which after all is what the contest is about. Respect. And btw next time I will try park, just head a way troughout the city and used this opportunity :)
