First Impressions of Living in a Van in Korea! 🇰🇷 Exploring Daebu-do Island
#korea #koreatravel #vanlife
Hello everyone! We have finally started our adventure in the van, and in this episode we first spend Chuseok (추석) with Yujin’s family, which is one of the biggest holidays in Korea kind of similar to Thanksgiving. Then it was finally time to depart for our journey in the van. We started out by going to a small island off the Western tip of Ansan City (안산시) called Daebu-do (대부도), which has a beautiful beach called Bangameori Beach (방아머리해수욕장). It was the perfect spot to start our van adventure, with amazing views and facilities, and we decided to talk about our first impressions living in a van to wrap off the video. Thanks so much for everything, and enjoy!

    14:15 that’s me!!! 🙋‍♀️ and it’s so funny cos seeing your route, at least the first 2/3 is pretty much the same route that me and the husband are planning for our next trip to Korea - except we wanna drive down the Taean peninsula. it will solely be a roadtrip (in a regular car though) so we’re super looking forward to your videos 😍 19:33 from your end, it might feel like we don’t know you, and obviously we do only know what you choose to upload, BUT. I think all of your subscribers will agree that it’s impossible not to see that you are two very humble and super down to earth people. honest, but kind, and you work hard to give us very high quality videos. and it might seem like a onesided relationship where we get nothing in return for our support, but it’s not like that from my side of things. I know it takes a lot of effort and time to make videos, and on top of that I’m getting so much travel inspiration and super useful information. and I get to at least watch a place I love and miss so much when it’s not possible for me to go there for the time being 🥹 so from my pov it feels more like I’m the one who can’t do enough to match what I feel I get from you 🫶

    I had exactly the same experiences when I married my Korean wife here in the states. My wife visited Korea first by her self, and about six months later we both traveled to Korea so her family could meet me. I was really very nervous before I met the family, but everyone treated me just like a king. I then started to feel a little embarrassed because of all of them would go WAY out of the norm like making me western style meals, but cooked Korean style. After a few days my wife explained in the states I usually ate much more Korean food than American food. For some reason all of her nieces and nephews quickly became my best friends, and a bunch of the kids and I would go to a big city and visit many interesting places. Of course the kids all wanted to eat American style food, as most of them had never had even a hamburger before. We married when I was 47 and my wife was 44. She was actually the matriarch of her family and I found out later why they treated me like a king every time we visited. She is like all their mothers wrapped into one, and it turned out they all worshiped me because I kept her in the states. We ended up visiting 12 times over the years. If it was my choice I’d rather live in Korea full time now that we’re both retired. But my boss says she prefers the states.

    I am surprised the struggle you have with showers. I thought this lifestyle would be much easier in Korea and Japan bc or the bathing culture. Isn't there jjimjjim bangs and mogyoktangs everywhere? Can't you stay there overnight as well in Korea? We have one in the Chicago land. It is definitely way more expensive than Korea but way cheaper than a hotel. While at first, I had to get used to bathing naked in front of others again, I am now totally comfortable with it. Onsens are my favorite places to go when visiting Japan.

    i noticed at 12:40 you were driving down a narrow street where all the cars were parked on both sides facing the same direction. is there laws there saying you can only park in one direction even when you travel down a two lane street?

    • @lostthenfound
      @lostthenfound 5 годин тому

      @casitacindy461 this is a great question. I think you are only supposed to park on the right side in the direction that your lane is going, but Korea's traffic laws are not enforced that well if I'm being honest. Especially in Ansan I noticed a lot of people just kind of parked wherever they wanted to. I could be wrong though and you might be allowed to park on both sides in this street.

    Hi Matt, I read that there's cheap fashion shopping in Sinchon but i didn't see shopping covered here. Can I confirm with u if we get good shopping here just like in Hongdae street? Or is it at exit 2? Are there lots of shopping there? Thank you very much as always😊

      @buttlebe hi there! The shopping in Sinchon is mainly on Yonsei-ro and its surroundings, the street between Sinchon Station and Yonsei University. There is also the Hyundai Department Store and U-Plex Department Store but I don't think there is anything as big as the Hongdae Shopping Street as far as I'm aware though.

      @cascabeles1 thank you so much for watching, and really happy to hear that! Things were intimidating for me at first as well, but people were really helpful, and I'm sure they will be to you as well. Have an amazing trip to Korea! The weather will be perfect then!

    Another great video my friends. 👏👏 What the hell is a Butt Kabob? Sounds so nasty. 💩 I'm going to be in Seoul Oct. 3 to 16th and would love to meet you two if it's possible. I'm surprised with the high costs of housing in Seoul, not more people are living like you guys.

    I love the panoramic views that you show. The beach, skies, walking down streets. I like “ feeling like I’m there” . I want to see Korean life, more than what you do and do not like about the van life. It is nice not to exhaust yourself biking. I got excited to see new places.

      @Mudskipper9876 thanks so much for watching and for the kind words! The West Coast has been beautiful for sure. We're now on the South Coast as we had a bit of a time crunch, but can't wait to explore more of the West in the future once we are finished our project. All the best eh!

    Yay! A new video! 🤩 So happy that you had a lovely Chuseok with family, and that you are settling into van life. 😊 Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings about the first days. I imagine that the lack of a private bathroom and the limited storage space will take some time to get used to. I hope the freedom to go wherever you want will offset those issues. I look forward to seeing where your adventures take you next. Stay safe and have a wonderful week! 🍀💜🇰🇷

      @misscaroline542 thank you so much for the wonderful comment as always! Also thank you so much for all of your generous support! You've really helped us out a lot to make this lifestyle work! You're right that it takes some time to get used to things, but about 10 days later we are a lot more settled in now and enjoying it a lot! All the best with everything, and have an amazing week! 😊

    I'm about to arrive to Korea from Mexico next Thursday for a long stay. Both of you have make me feel no that anguish. Thank 🙏🫶 By the way, that tradition of spending a day with relatives that have passed away (eating and sharing) is exactly what Día de muertos is all about here in Mexico!!! 🥹

      @Miguel_Noether wow thanks so much for leaving this comment, and hope you have an amazing trip to Korea! Also thank you for sharing your culture with us! We've heard of Día de muertos, but didn't know much about it, and it sounds a lot similar to what is done here as well. Mexico looks like such a beautiful country with rich culture and amazing food, and we hope to check it out someday! All the best!

    How do you guys feel about the recent ban on parking lot chabaks? I think it'll give you guys more challenge through your travels.

    • @lostthenfound
      @lostthenfound 5 годин тому

      @Joshrrek it's definitely going to make things challenging for us. I don't think we will be able to follow the laws 100% to be honest as I don't really understand them completely (seems like some parking lots don't care and some do), but we will have to be extremely respectful, quiet, and clean everywhere we go, and if people don't want us in the parking lot we will have to respect their wishes and leave.
