Welcome to my channel! I create and share videos about training horses trimming and hoof care.
Trimming Hooves on a Retired Roping Horse
This is a maintenance trim for the horse in this video. His hooves have improved a lot but I don't know how much more they will continue to improve. I am hopeful that his heels and his frogs will open up more.
Some roping horses with end up with shoulder issues and navicular issues in the front hooves. That is what this horse is currently dealing with. He is getting a lot of good body work and hoof care though and has made a lot of improvements and is moving so much better.
If you have any questions feel free to ask them or leave a comment. I read all of them and try to respond. Even if it isn't always in a timely manner.

BAREFOOT TRIM on a Gypsy Vanner Horse including cutting down LONG Chesnuts, and Ergots!
I understand that as a farrier you obviously know what you’re doing so this is fine, but as someone who was religiously taught to never touch the frog too hard this gave me a heart attack
That won't just peel off like a normal chestnut? Normally, chestnuts just peel off like calluses. Never had a horse with a seperated chestnut like this before.
Pin up the hair
Why not cut the hair around it
Schrecklich 😢😢😢
Was ist das
I have just realised why its taking so long..🤦 I was so fascinated by the question and answers that I forgotit was a short video on a loop. As i looked down and realised I just thought.. of course it is a short video😂.
Che schifo povera bestia!!! ❤
I never saw this area so overgrown on any of my horses...
Could someone explain how this works/happens? I'm not a professional in the slightest, I am quite curious
How do you know whats too deep?
Does it hurt them ? I rememeber i use to go horse back ridding and taking lessons as a child and vleaning the hooves but obviously i was never trained to cut the hooves just pick the dirt out the frog
Are they like the horns that grow in crazy places on humans? I dont understand they why but they are Crazy to watch being removed!
Probably remnants of toe, but all horses have them and usually just shed/peel off by themselves
I don't even know what I'm watching
Бедное животное так запустить.
Eso es queratina acumulada durante tiempo.

Oi atrativa doanimau
Why would anyone let ut get to this point? Uneducated people who shouldn’t own animals. That’s abuse. Neglect.
This is not a neglect case. I trim this horses chestnuts every 6 weeks. They just grow really fast.
WTF 🙈
Is that on a draft breed? Why did they get like that? Couldn’t they be pulled off? Or did the owner not do it for a while? Not trying to be super critical. I usually just torn mine off
Why did her wrap the feathers 🤷🏻♀️ there is goin to be some gaps in those nice feathers now. From some getting accidently cut. 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
This owner will actually trim up her horses feathers in the winter so she doesn’t mind if they get cut.
It looks like he would be walking on his sole? Is that okay?
For this horse where he was at during his rehab yes. He’s doing great and is sound currently!
@The_Female_Farrier awesome!!!
Eso q es párese hueso q feo
It’s called a Chestnut and is made out of keratin.
E verdade isso, não é fake?
Nice feet!
Thank you!
Is that the honey badger apron you’re wearing? Would you recommend?
Yes and I love it! I did add extra knife pockets though.
Awesome video Kristen, those feet clearly do well with your trim. Love your real world approach to hoof care. The narration is so helpful and informative. Youre so brave sharing your trimming with the world, so many trimmers wont show their work unless its pretty facebook ready photos. Your knowledge and skills really is a great demonstration of the current best evidence on how we should support a barefoot horse. Thanks chic
Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely kind comment! I try to show the good, bad, and ugly. Only criteria is that the horse stands well enough to be videoed!
Very nice presentation. Thanks for sharing, Ma'am...
Thank you so much for continuing to watch my videos and comment 💜!
Que eso
It’s called a chestnut. It’s on a horses leg.
That is a little cringe.😮
Totally cringe.
Cringeworthy* Cringe is a verb. And it's really not.
Where are you located
I’m in Arkansas.
They look like hardened rotten eggs
They definitely are strange.
Gracias por ayudar al caballo
You are welcome 💜!
Adimiro muito o trabalho de vcs profissionais ❤❤❤
Thank you 💜!
Thats so disgusting. 🤢🤮
💜
Dafür, dass er das Tier verdrecken und vergammeln ließ, gehören dem Besitzer die Ohren lang gezogen.
💜
Do the heels really grow faster in cases like this? Why is that? I always thought that the heels just don't wear as much because most of the weight is on the toe.
@@anniehope8651 the heels don’t grow faster, the wall at the toe just gets more compressed from the incorrect angle and unequal distribution of weight.
What hoof nippers are these?
I use Shadowfax Forge Nippers and GE Racetrack. Both 14 inch.
Perche non li curano prima di arrivare a questi livello
💜
I believe that it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure that this does not happen!!!
💜
No new vids in a while, I pray all is well. Thanks for taking care of Gods animals. God bless.
@@GodBlessGodBless1227 just been busy with the horses. It’s hard for me to get long form content out during the summer and the fall. I have one almost ready to go though!
Thanks for cleaning horse hoff ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are welcome!
Хоть бы одну Лршадку довели до ума!!!!!!
My gelding ended up with the same kind of crack in his hoof wall. It was not fun to try and grow out. Where are you located with your trimming? also, do you have a brand you like for your tools? I'm going to need to get some new one's soon and would like to hear your opinion. Thanks!
Hi there. I’m in Arkansas. The brand depends on the tool I’m using. They are all different brands.
😮
Crazy right!?
Is that a wart?
No it’s a chestnut.
I have no interest in chestnut trims, but hoof trims:yes!! Hint hint(more hoof trims pleez) 🐴
@@sidilicious11 that’s so funny because I don’t have lot of interest in them either, but they get the majority of the views 🤪. I’m going to try to get a long form video uploaded by this evening!
What is that ? 😮
@@کوروش-ص9د that is a chestnut from a horses leg.
What is that?
@@GYWHE that is a chestnut that I removed from a horses leg. They all have them. Some are soft enough to peel off. Some are hard and thick and you need tools to remove them.
Hard work thanks for taking care of his hoof
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
I like the side view on the second hoof. That way we can better see the concavity and what needs to be trimmed, especially the bars. Just wondering, why are you rasping the back end of the heels down?
Thank you for watching and for your comment. It’s to give a laminitic a choice as to how he wants to stand on his heals. Many of them like to try to rock back off of their front hooves.
@@The_Female_Farrier Thank you! I never heard that before. It makes sense.
