I have been barefoot with my horses for15 yrs and am really glad I did it. I ride and camp a lot in the summer in the Cascade mts in Oregon and there's lots of rocks on the trails. I usually use boots during the summer but am considering using these glue ons for summer but your point about removing the periople surface of my horses hoof. My riding horse has super strong feet. He has thick walls & soles and nice concavity. My barefoot trimmer says hes got one of the best feet of all her clients. In your opinion would you use these glue on shoes for 2-3 mos a year or avoid them? I'm in my early 70s and this would make my workload when camping and riding easier but I don't want to risk damaging his hoof health! Thanks for your honest opinion.
Thank you for watching and for your comment! That’s exactly what the owner does with this horse in the video. She takes him camping a lot all over the country. When they have a trip planned we put the shoes on. The rest of the time he is barefoot and does great. I cover the whole wall in super glue and it helps act like a synthetic periople. You can do that after the shoes come off as well to protect the hoof wall until the natural periople grows down.
@@The_Female_Farrier That's just what I was thinking too (using the super glue over the hoof). My trimmer does not do any type of shoeing and has never used glue ons so I would be doing this on my own. Sometimes when I'm riding I use front and rear boots, but sometimes just front. Since these will be on for the summer would you recommend front and rear shoes? Could the height difference over an extended period cause any weight bearing changes for him? Thanks again, I do appreciate your expertise and opinion.
Question...when removing the super glue from the outer hoof wall, are you not concerned with removing any nutrients in the hoof wall?
The only thing I am removing is old glue and periople. The super glue gives the horse another layer of protection at the end of the process.

Lady (unknown)... I have to pull my hut off! You are as goo or better, at what you do, than most male farriers!
Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment ❤️!
Ohhhhh man that constant pulling would really get on my nerves.
It’s very tiring for sure!
