I just got his lp made to measure vol 13. Looking forward to listening to this interview.
I'd love to know what you guys thought of the film, " August Rush" - My favorite film that most people missed what was happening in the score.
Still such a highly underrated and harshly criticized amp company, *but they really did shoot themselves in both feet when they produced model lines that had a shape control on the overdrive channels but no midrange.* The worst part is, you can add the midrange by changing a 100 ohm resistor that costs literally less than 1 cent with a 40 cent 500 ohm potentiometer, and that turns those models into the ultimate metal amp! *That, or the low-tech way is to pu an EQ on the effects loop.* One of the best thrash, death, industrial and numetal amps of all time.
Original Sticks were 34" scale. Then became 36" scale as available today. However, the newer aluminium Railboard is back to 34" scale.
Thanks for the input and info Stephen
You wouldn’t happen to be the Finbar who worked at Revolver Audio in Melbourne mid 1990s would you?
Yes mate, that’s me
@@FinbarOhanlonDude…you got me through the difficult transition into hard disk recording…Logic 2.5 on a 7200 Mac with an AudioMedia 3 card. If it wasn’t for your help, I think I would have given up. 30 years later…still at it. Many thanks. (eyesaw on Soundcloud). Trying to remember…I think you may also have bought my TR909?
@@mdmorris6193 wow, thanks so much for the kind words and memories. I might have bought your 909 can’t remember Kate, bought so much gear over the years. Thrilled you are still making music. Will check out your stuff
I used to live in Eureka, California, and Randy used to play with a piano player (that sadly I can't remember his name) at the bar in the Eureka Inn. My wife and I used to go there to see them at least once or twice a month. Then the hotel was sold and I think the new owner closed the bar for renovation. After that Randy moved to LA and we never saw him again. It's great to see he is alive and well 15 odd years later.
Just beautiful Finbar. It’s something that amazes me, how you create these ethereal moments and syncopated melodies and time signatures that work so well together. I can appreciate how much you let a track “ breathe “, and give something space, to build a beautiful tension. Truly wonderful stuff 😊
Thanks so much Jim, really appreciate your comment and ongoing support for my music
As always mate, I love it.
You rock Dave. Always appreciate your support.
Beautiful! Perfect title too, Weightless...
Thanks so much Philippe, love your comment
Sounds a lot to Mike Oldfield´s 90´s productions. Voyager and so.
Thank you, Mike Oldfield is a total legend. Appreciate the comment.
Something I love about your Warr Guitar compositions, is when I close my eyes I can't tell if it's a Warr Guitar being played with touch style, or 2 perhaps 6 string guitars. Just beautiful interaction of sound voicings!
Thank You Buddy, the Warr Guitar is a total inspiration Machine, thank you for your ongoing support
beautiful composition. hey! could you make a video explaining the differences between the touch guitar/warr guitar vs the chapman stick?? i'm from uruguay and i have a chapman stick knockoff made by an argentinian luthier (i'm just starting out on the instrument, i'm actually a drummer). But some day i would like to buy the original, but in recent years touch guitars have gain some popularity (and i know that if you order a stick it takes ages to be made). So i would love a thourough video explaining pros and cons of each, both for playing, order one, etc (if you want of course). Any way thanks a lot for bringing more light into this amazing instruments. Much love form uruguay!
I ordered a Chapman Railboard during the peak of Covid in the USA. It was a custom order & I received mine in less than a year.
Thanks for the comment and congrats on your own journey. I have owned 3 different sticks, a Grand Rosewood and a 10 and 12 tailboard. Sticks are amazing instruments. The Warr Guitars Come with a lot more options and a completely Different Sound. I have 2 Warr Guitars both 12 Strings, One in Crossed (Inverted Bass Tuning) and the other Uncrossed. I like your suggestion regarding the difference between Warr and Chapman Sticks, however I dont own any sticks these days. I am however thinking of doing a whole series on learning to play the Warr Guitar (stick) if there is enough interest. Subscribe to my Channel and keep up to date as I start releasing some new vids. If you are interested in learning a particular aspect of Touchstyle or Stick, Warr, Hanewinckel guitars let me know and I'll see what I can do to help you by doing a video on that topic.
@@plantafantasma2060 congrats on your purchase and journey mate. They are amazing instruments.
@@FinbarOhanlon thanks a lot! I mean any tips for studying helps, specially since in my country there is no one that plays touch style instruments, so I'm learning from books and UA-cam videos mostly.
@@FernandoCuadro thank mate. I get it, there are hardly any players here in Melbourne Australia. I took zoom lessons with Steve Adelson and James wright who really helped me get started. Anyways I will start planning a series of lessons for anyone looking to learn and post it out and see if there is enough interest Thank for you contribution to my channel.
How is your guitar tuned dude,? Is it bottom to top , as in fat to skinny like a normal guitar.? Sounds amazing.
It's a Warr guitar (12 string) which will most likely have a very similar tuning to a Chapman Stick. The lowest strings are usually the two in the middle - the bass side is screen-left (Finbar's right,) often tuned in 5ths upward to the neck edge and the treble side is often tuned in 4ths toward the other edge of the neck.
@@nickcook3948 thanks mate, that is correct. My other Warr is Tuned in Parallel 4ths where both sides are tuned to 4ths and the bass is not inverted and strings swapped around. Having both tunings requires 'if effect' learning two different instruments with lots of similarities, but gives me a lot more creative outlets. The next Warr Video I post will be using the other Warr. Thank for your comment and support.
Thanks so much @malstewart5633 Mal, appreciate the comment and question. The Guitar has in effect two sides Bass and Melody. Each side has 6 strings and its own outputs and controls. 12 strings in total, with th bass side inverted (upside down from centre of the neck to the outside (top) of the fingerboard. tuning is as follows Bass Side 12:-B 11-E 10-A 9-D 8-G 7-C (lowest) Melody Side 6-B (Lowest) 5-E 4-A 3-D 2-G 1-C
I went to middle school and high school with him. May he rest in peace.
Brilliant!!
what’s the difference between this and chapman stick?
Check out Jason Blakes response here. The other Key Difference that Jason does not mention is Warr Guitars can come in variants up to 14 string with any combination of Melody and Bass strings e.g.6 Bass + 8 Melody. Check out Jasons page here. www.jasonblakemusic.com/news/warr-guitar-and-chapman-stick#:~:text=The%20differences%20lie%20in%20the,or%20a%20more%20horizontal%20position.
Wow, looking at that board I see right away eight pedals that look very familiar from my own board. Still trying to figure out the secrets of Habit. It sounds very very good! 👍👍👏👏
Thank you buddy, love your UA-cam channel and your work
Love the concept of a looper up front to allow you to experiment with pedals applied to the same phrase. I was missing that!! I have a similar setup using the Gig Rig. Will add looper!!
Happy New Year, old friend. Cheers! 🥂🎉
Hey Robert, nice to hear from you. Happy New Year to you as well.
This is so inspiring!! Love it. More please 😃
Throwing this out there, I’d love to see a breakdown of your pedal board. I recognize some of the names, but not all of them. How do you use them and for what effects? Thank you so much!
Thanks Alexander. Thanks for your comment. I’ll try find some time between things to do a short vid that gives you what you are looking for. My pedalboard has been designed as an aid to spark creativity, and as such I don’t think of the pedals as devices for specific sounds, they are looked at as ingredients that when combined might fire some new musical ideas. Will let you know when I have a vid posted that talks through things
@@FinbarOhanlon even hearing your philosophy when it comes to the pedal board is super helpful. I love the ingredients metaphor. If you ever wanted to do a breakdown of how you approach sound creation, bring inspired, and auditory exploration, I imagine people would love to watch it. I would, at least. Thank you so much for the great content! I discovered you from your Maschine dawless videos and have been watching your vids a lot of the past couple days! Big fan. Thank you for your wonderful mind and creative spark ✨
HI Alexander, I did a quick video showing a more detailed example of how I get ideas using this board at the following link. ua-cam.com/video/RezgkZoLQ-8/v-deo.htmlsi=tMvi1qSBEylaDA7F

Happy to help where I can mate Since doing this video I have gone back to writing content on my Warr Guitar but happy to answer any questions Email me: finbar@finbarohanlon.com and will try and help where and when I can
Thank You! Just found this today in November 2023? So happy I did, the unheard history!!! Amazing player’s, musician’s and kind soul’s. I also found the Stick totally natural feeling! I came from a serious right wrist injury and permanent 90% fusion of the wrist- the ergonomic design allowed me to have playing an instrument in my life again! I took off better on the Stick than bass or guitar! I always tell those who are asking: You don’t have to graduate up from guitar or bass - it’s a different instrument - approach it that way… yes it’s in the guitar/bass “family” but different! Thank You for hosting this awesome conversation!
Thanks @jasonBrockStick appreciate your comments and glad you enjoyed the video.
Very cool, thanks for sharing. After playing around with 4ths tuning I've enjoyed another tuning I suspect you may be interested in: all strings 6 semitones apart rather than 5. This makes octaves directly above on alternating strings. 7 string gets range from E1 to E6. Try it out!
Great video! I’m having trouble recording pop music in Maschine because of the lack of abilities to be flexible with audio recording. Like punch in/out or editing audio parts or overdubbing. How did you record vocals and guitars? I can record all sequenced patterns and song structure easily, that’s where maschine shines. It’s adding audio tracks (though there pattern independent clips now) where it get’s a messy workflow. Any thoughts on that?
Get yourself a Footswitch I use a dual Roland FS6 One Footswitch is for play stop the other is for record Depending on the mode you are in for recording will Determine whether the audio will be stored as individual recordings or recording loop and overdub Using clips then you can place your recorded file on the timeline wherever you want
Hi, great video, thanks! How can you have so many groups and sounds and your cpu around 48%?
Thanks buddy, the track does in spots get to about 64% The secret is using bussed effects The whole track is only using 3 effects Plus I learned hot to use the simple inbuilt bass synths and poly synth which takes up little memory It’s super easy on Maschine to just pull up something from and expansion and go from there but the expansions have been in a lot of cases optimised for a mk3 workflow, where CPU is not an issue Maschine plus is super capable if you plan your track out right, this is why I tried to replicate a complete track like this to see what’s possible
@@FinbarOhanlon thank you very much for taking the time to explain, very helpful, cheers!!
