I am a retired firefighter/car guy that has been working on Tri Five Chevy's for over 40 years. I currently have five '55 Chevy's and a few other vehicles that I work on out of a 3 car garage. I continue to learn along the way as I work on these classic car projects and try to keep them on the road. Glad to have you along for the ride!

Sidetracked Again! Diagnosing the Daily Driver
Переглядів 199Місяць тому
Well, we are sidelined from working on the Tri-Fives again today because the daily driver took a dump! It's always the priority to keep the daily on the road so, I had to put down the Tri Five parts and jump in to get this one done! It was a tricky diagnosis as I could have blindly started replacing parts on the car but, with a little bit of thought and ruling out other possibilities, we were a...

There were many family members there that day and this is everyone's videos that we put together for this clip. Thanks for watching!

Переглядів 844Місяць тому
We finally get to some long-awaited repairs and upgrades for Howie's Hardtop (AKA Dad's '55 Bel Air Hardtop). Just in time for Summer too! We tackle a broken gas gauge, a broken speedometer, a loose power steering belt, replace an obnoxious fan blade, repair the Edelbrock Carb from a bad off the line stumble and re-center the steering wheel. These are repairs that were never followed up on afte...

Looking Good in the Garage, That Music sounds like u walking in the garage getting ready to go a couple Rounds 😂👍 Have a good one Bud ✌️
For sure Lonnie! Music is the motivator, that's for sure! Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend!
Plenty of room in that yard for more projects
I wish 1! If I had one more spot I would grab a '70 Chevelle, drop a BBC in it and make a Wooderson SS Clone! Maybe when I get the new house! Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
@@hubiesgarage those are pizza cutters
@1Also Actually, the pizza cutters are in front of the gasser. The Weld Wheels in the video are 15x8's with 10" Pro Trac Tires on them. Have a great one 1!
@@hubiesgarage I thought you’d recognize that as a quote from the movie…but maybe just “watch the leather man!”
@1Also I should have remembered that one 1! It was the Melba Toast's Packin' scene when Clint was bragging on his Trans Am...duh!
Lots going on at Hubies Garage. Looks like fun. 👍😎✌️
For sure Kevin! I just need to spend more time out there plugging away at them! Have a great weekend!
Correction, everyday in the garage is a beautiful day! Have an awesome weekend Hubie!
@raymondantonio4145 Thanks Raymond! I just need more days like this! Have a great weekend too Raymond!
Rock and roll and wrenches... perfect
@jeffreyadkins5014 It's the only way to function in the Garage Jeff! Thanks for stopping by and please consider subscribing to the channel! Have a great weekend!
Great video .. that almost like what I am doing in my garage.. 55 Chevys .. the best .. hard work but very rewarding..
@jerrykeel9799 Yes, they are a lot of work but, very rewarding when you get the work done! Thanks for stopping by Jerry and if you haven't done so, please subscribe to the channel. I have five '55 Chevys on the channel. Thanks again and have a great weekend!
Just about Any day of the week in the garage is a Good day 👍👍
@bigblockkings1031 That is for sure Gorni! I need more of these days! Have a great weekend!
I’ve had a couple 72 dusters. Love those cars Jeff.
Yep, my neighbor had a '71 with a 340 in it that I rode in once or twice growing up as a kid. They were always a nostalgic car for me too Rick! Have a great weekend!
That’s sure is cool 👍😎👍
Thanks Kev! She's a beaut, that's for sure!
@@hubiesgarage absolutely she is! 👍👀👍
That’s sure is cool 👍😎👍
It sure is a cool truck! Thanks for watching Kev!
Duster threw out the white flag and said save me! I had a 74 Dodge Dart Sport , 440 automatic w fenderwell headers. Great cars!
My neighbor had a nice one I got to see every day as a kid! I've always liked them too!
It's very beautiful the way it looks.
@cesartrex1870 Yes, it was a very nice looking C10! Thanks for watching Cesar!
Good looking Duster but those back wheels are interesting 🤔
I agree Gorni! I think they are rollers while the car is at the shop. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!
Nice one 👍
Thank you and thanks for watching!
cant forget these words. ALRIGHT here we go..
I think they say that on one of the rides at Disneyland too...😂😂😂 Thanks for watching Giveblood!
@@hubiesgarage when i get Howie's age i hope i still get excited with a little jump also, just like he did.
What times was they running back in the day ?? This seems like about a 15-second car.. you'll have a lot of fun.. I like it...
The last record this one held in 1963 was 12.71 at 110.56 MPH for E/Gas.
Good video Jeff, well worth waiting for, did you put the felt back in that came out, or new felt, catch you soon buddy😁😁
Thanks Mike! I ended up taking the felt out of the other speedometer for the Delray and using it in Howie's speedometer. I will get a new one for the Delray later when I restore it and put it back together. If you do the speedometer for your truck, I hope you are able to do a video. It would be neat to see the differences in the truck speedo vs. the passenger car speedo. Thanks for watching and take care!
@@hubiesgarage ok Jeff, I will be addressing it soon, lots of parts going on the 55 truck
@DesertRatFabrication Sounds good Mike! I need to get caught up on your build!
Very nice 👍
@CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525 Yes, it is. We have located the 3 '57's that we had in our Fire Dept. and this one is the nicest of the 3! Thanks for watching
Sweet
@ajaxracing Thank you and thanks for watching!
So nice!👍🏻
I may end up with her basket case sister! Thanks for watching Chris!
My uncle had a 59 bel air drag car it was fucking sweet
👍
I enjoyed the old stories of both 55 Chevys. Howies hardtop is so sharp man. Catch you next time
Thanks Don! As you know, these cars are family. Each one has a story to tell and it is hard to get through a repair or to take something apart on them without being reminded of those stories. Thanks for watching and have a great week Don! Take care!
Great Video Bud , Awesome stories Too , Yeah as a teenager in 70s it was a crazy fun time. Have a good week Jeff 👍✌️
Thanks Lonnie! It was a great time for me too! It tore me apart seeing that L79 sitting in the hardtop when it was a bare shell for all of those years! Luckily, my Dad took it well and turned it into something very positive as we embarked on a father/son drag racing journey for the next 5 years with my '55. It was a great time for us both! Thanks for watching and have a great week!
thanks Hubie. never been in a speed odometer in the dash.
@giveblood8467 It had been some time for me since cracking one open so, this one shook a few cobwebs lose! Thanks for watching Giveblood!
I always enjoy your videos Jeff and the stories are awesome!! Great stuff and looking forward to more!!
Thank you Dave! I hope you guys had a great 4th and have a great week!
Cool how to on how to service your speedometer head Jeff, instead of replacing twisted speedo cables, just a little time and oil and you’re good as new! Like you said too, it’s a good time to replace any other parts in there while you’re at it! Thanks for the tips Jeff, appreciate it!
Thanks Raymond! I probably should have wiped the gears with some lithium grease but, it looked like it still had some on them. The '57 should be very similar as I have had those apart too. Thanks for watching Raymond and have a great week!
That’s good to know , I put an Autometer speedo head and gauges in my cluster but still good to know how it’s done. Have a great rest of the week too Jeff!
Hey Jeff great video. I had to do the same thing to mine, but mine was frozen. I was afraid it was no good, but I took it apart and made it work. Good thing I checked it before I put it together. I should’ve made a video also, but I wasn’t thinking about it at the time, hope you’re having a great day
Thanks Mike! I think even some of the ones that we thought were really bad ended up being fixable. I am glad you got yours going again! Thanks for watching and I hope you are well! Take care!
Great video Jeff, thanks for sharing.Going to do the same thing on the speedometer on my 55 Junker Truck. 🆒💯
Thanks Steve! I was amazed at how many people wanted to see this follow-up video after seeing the speedometer cable fail on the earlier test drive I did! I know Mike from Desert Rat Fabrication needs to do the speedo on his truck too. I am sure it will be fairly similar to the passenger cars, even though I have never done a tri five truck before. Hopefully, you and or Mike can do a video on fixing your truck speedos too! Thanks for watching and I hope you guys have a great week! Take care Steve!
Love that hard top!
Thanks Eric! I hope you guys are doing well up there and hope summer stays longer than fire season does! Take care and thanks for watching!
Very cool video Jeff. The stories behind your cars are so interesting. Keep up the great work and have a great week and be safe out there. Awesome tech tip. 👍😎✌️
Thanks Kevin! With owning the hardtop since '63 and owning my Bel Air 2 dr sedan since '83, we have accumulated a few stories to say the least! Have a great week Kevin and thanks for watching!
Interesting how to on speedo head cleaning and lubing
Thanks Dan! I know you've probably done a ton more of these than I have! I think the last one I did was on my VW Bug and I thought I still had the old red, white and black metal can of 3 and 1 that I used back then! I had 2 or three people that kept asking when I was going to fix the speedo after the test drive video and I probably could have done this video in 12 minutes! It sure brought back a lot of memories and some of those stories made it in the final cut here. Steve's '55 Hardtop sure looks amazing! It is really getting close! I hope you guys are doing well and getting better after your last illness! Take care!
Excellent video Jeff. This will come in handy when I can find a cable that hooks up my 400 turbo to the 55 dash. You wouldn't happen to know of an OEM cable that would work do you? Man the more I see Howies 55 the more I like it. Especially that red!
Thanks Gorni! I got the speedo cable from Summit. I think they may be universal with 1 or 2 different lengths. See what Summit offers online. The '55 has been red ever since '63 when he bought it from a buddy here in town. He got it painted red again in the early 70's by an Earl Scheib kind of place and then our Buddy Tom Rodriguez of Cypress Auto Body did the Corvette Torch Red back in about 2001. It is holding up very nicely! Thanks for watching and have a great week!
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching Mike! I hope you are enjoying the summer fishing!
Man, if a guy had a small business, how cool would it be to drive that every day! Love it!
I have driven this one once or twice. It is nice to be a part of my fire dept fire museum so I can continue to drive some of the old rigs that I had driven in the past. We have 3 of these still around....this one, one that a Los Angeles Fire Dept. Mechanic bought and uses for his side business and the 3rd one I am hoping to buy and restore...we'll see how that goes!
Good luck with that, be the perfect parts getter! Has to be pretty rare, can’t see too many of them left!
@raymondantonio4145 Yes, very rare! The GMC Registry, so I'm told, said only 15 were made!
Would be very cool towing the gasser to the racetrack! You’ll need to get a bigger driveway there Jeff! Lol
