    Cool how to on how to service your speedometer head Jeff, instead of replacing twisted speedo cables, just a little time and oil and you’re good as new! Like you said too, it’s a good time to replace any other parts in there while you’re at it! Thanks for the tips Jeff, appreciate it!

      Thanks Raymond! I probably should have wiped the gears with some lithium grease but, it looked like it still had some on them. The '57 should be very similar as I have had those apart too. Thanks for watching Raymond and have a great week!

      That’s good to know , I put an Autometer speedo head and gauges in my cluster but still good to know how it’s done. Have a great rest of the week too Jeff!

    Hey Jeff great video. I had to do the same thing to mine, but mine was frozen. I was afraid it was no good, but I took it apart and made it work. Good thing I checked it before I put it together. I should’ve made a video also, but I wasn’t thinking about it at the time, hope you’re having a great day

      Thanks Mike! I think even some of the ones that we thought were really bad ended up being fixable. I am glad you got yours going again! Thanks for watching and I hope you are well! Take care!

      Thanks Kevin! With owning the hardtop since '63 and owning my Bel Air 2 dr sedan since '83, we have accumulated a few stories to say the least! Have a great week Kevin and thanks for watching!

      Thanks Dan! I know you've probably done a ton more of these than I have! I think the last one I did was on my VW Bug and I thought I still had the old red, white and black metal can of 3 and 1 that I used back then! I had 2 or three people that kept asking when I was going to fix the speedo after the test drive video and I probably could have done this video in 12 minutes! It sure brought back a lot of memories and some of those stories made it in the final cut here. Steve's '55 Hardtop sure looks amazing! It is really getting close! I hope you guys are doing well and getting better after your last illness! Take care!

    I enjoyed the old stories of both 55 Chevys. Howies hardtop is so sharp man. Catch you next time

      Thanks Don! As you know, these cars are family. Each one has a story to tell and it is hard to get through a repair or to take something apart on them without being reminded of those stories. Thanks for watching and have a great week Don! Take care!

    Excellent video Jeff. This will come in handy when I can find a cable that hooks up my 400 turbo to the 55 dash. You wouldn't happen to know of an OEM cable that would work do you? Man the more I see Howies 55 the more I like it. Especially that red!

      Thanks Gorni! I got the speedo cable from Summit. I think they may be universal with 1 or 2 different lengths. See what Summit offers online. The '55 has been red ever since '63 when he bought it from a buddy here in town. He got it painted red again in the early 70's by an Earl Scheib kind of place and then our Buddy Tom Rodriguez of Cypress Auto Body did the Corvette Torch Red back in about 2001. It is holding up very nicely! Thanks for watching and have a great week!

      Thanks Lonnie! It was a great time for me too! It tore me apart seeing that L79 sitting in the hardtop when it was a bare shell for all of those years! Luckily, my Dad took it well and turned it into something very positive as we embarked on a father/son drag racing journey for the next 5 years with my '55. It was a great time for us both! Thanks for watching and have a great week!

    Hey Jeff! Wanted to say I really love watching your channel! I recently came across your videos about a month ago when I came across one of your videos talking about your Historical 55 gasser. I just turned 25 and I’ve been into tri fives since I was a kid. Which I still am I suppose haha! But I absolutely love watching your videos! There’s so much I’ve learned already and I absolutely love owning following your builds and the progress your making on your cars. Please keep it up!

      Thank you Andrew! That's awesome and just made my day! It's great to be able to reach the younger generations and keep everyone interested in these old hot rods! This has been a big part of why I started the channel and being able to share knowledge along the way! Keep up the enthusiasm and interest in the tri fives and I will keep making the videos! Thanks again for the kind words and it is great having you along for the ride! Take care Andrew!

      Thank yah Jeff! We gotta keep these old hot rods alive and going!! I have a lot going on and happening in my life atm and have been thinking about starting up my own channel. I’m back and forth on it but I’m in the process of finally building my own small shop and am on the look for finding a good 55 sedan post car project to build. I’ve been collecting parts since I was a kid and have a decent collection of parts going on but just need the car! Haha! So much to do but always reminding myself to take things one step at a time and take it day by day which seems to be the ticket. But I’ll be following and watching all your videos! It helps me and so many others out there and we’re all greatly appreciated for the information and knowledge your sharing! Thanks Jeff!

      Thanks Steve! I was amazed at how many people wanted to see this follow-up video after seeing the speedometer cable fail on the earlier test drive I did! I know Mike from Desert Rat Fabrication needs to do the speedo on his truck too. I am sure it will be fairly similar to the passenger cars, even though I have never done a tri five truck before. Hopefully, you and or Mike can do a video on fixing your truck speedos too! Thanks for watching and I hope you guys have a great week! Take care Steve!

    Good video Jeff, well worth waiting for, did you put the felt back in that came out, or new felt, catch you soon buddy😁😁

    • @hubiesgarage
      @hubiesgarage  3 місяці тому

      Thanks Mike! I ended up taking the felt out of the other speedometer for the Delray and using it in Howie's speedometer. I will get a new one for the Delray later when I restore it and put it back together. If you do the speedometer for your truck, I hope you are able to do a video. It would be neat to see the differences in the truck speedo vs. the passenger car speedo. Thanks for watching and take care!
