Many Benefits of HUMIC ACID on lawn | How to IMPROVE LAWN SOIL
I'm in mobile alabama ❤
THANKS! I've been watching your videos for a couple of years. I have a nice lawn thanks to your advice. My neighbors always tell me that I have the nicest centipede lawn. Unfortunately, there's a downside to having a nice and thick centipede lawn. Dogs around the neighborhood love to walk and stop on my centipede grass and conduct their daily business. While the dog owners do act responsibly and always pick up after their dogs, there's still residue from #1 and #2. :( Oh well... :)
Very helpful video!
I had a beautiful new centipede lawn 10 years ago. I over fertilized it, cut it too short and now half my yard has almost no grass and covered in weeds, I was ignorant on how to care for it. You’re better off putting nothing down except making sure it’s watered properly.
You can definitely get away with that but the key as you mentioned is not over-feeding.
How would you recommend eradicating bahaigrass from a centipede lawn?
Bahia can be easily confused with carpetgrass so make sure it’s Bahia. To control try using a product called Blindside. It’s safe on centipede, but I’ve never used it - just heard good things. If it’s indeed carpet grass then Celsius will work.
I’m buying some
I’ve already used Scott Bonus s weed n feed (w/ atrazine) twice this year on my st aug but I plan on adding this spray in the fall. Should I hold off? If no. what do you suggest as a alternative that I can find in a box store?
Usually Atrazine should be limited to twice per year. That’s what the label states. For second question It depends on if you are using to kill existing weeds or more as a pre emergent
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare originally I was using it as a post emergent because that’s what I thought it did. And this fall in FL, I was gonna apply a crabgrass preventer granular followed by this weed stop product to water it in so I’m doing both. But then I read I’m limited to only two applications and I can’t find the reasoning behind it
When do you recommend applying iron and how far apart? Also, and what will be a good percentage or quantity?
Yes I typically like doing an iron/micronutrient app 1-2 times per year. Usually during summer for a little color pop. Get chelated iron and follow label instructions. Usually a little nitrogen included with the iron helps uptake.
Great info thanks. I already achieved the nitrogen under 2 lbs. for the year so for my next step I will use SOP in October like you recommend. i found this one it's a 0 0 48. Don't know if 48 is too high. I have 14k sq ft of Centipede grass. I will link the product. yardmastery.com/products/yard-mastery-0-0-48-sop?_pos=1&_sid=40a938c97&_ss=r. what do you think?
Sure that will be good. Just follow label. That will be a good feeding to strengthen the grass heading into fall
Thanks for the bag mowing tip! I always thought that mulching was better, but I am getting killed by chamberbitter. It is SO resistant and it blends in with the other grass.
Chlorophyll…more like borophyll 🤣🤣jk…I’d also add German Shepard and Great Dane urine spots in August…geez the things you do for family allowing them to stay at your place with pets 😬…good points though!
I’m late to this party. I’ve been babying my centipede since I moved in.
Welcome!
Hey, I’m in coastal NC, what are your thoughts on iron supplement to green up a little, I was looking at a 6-0-0 liquid lawn booster from simple solutions? Thanks, love your videos, keep them coming!
Sure! Haven’t tried that particular product but I’m sure it works great 👍. And low N which is good
3 weeks ago did a test application of Fahrenhiet and it smoked spurge. Did a combo of that with Empero and a tablespoon of 2-4-d per gallon spot spraying. Its taking down chamberbitter, spurge and nutsedge with no damage to grass. i got majority centipede with st augustine and some bermuda. so far so good. How did the isoxaben granular do for you? im considering getting it in WG form for pre-emergent.
That’s an interesting combo! The isoxaben I’ve been very impressed with and plan on using going forward. I may do a follow up video on the results
How do you get rid of bahia grass and crabgrass from a centipede lawn?
There is a product called Blindside that is supposed to kill Bahia and Crabgrass and be safe on centipede. I haven’t tried it myself but it’s supposed to work well
I have been a sub for about 4 years and your info on Centipede grass is right on the money and accurate. Keep up the good work!
Much appreciated!
Water your dirt, give them a reason to spread. Dude 10 minutes to say this, WTF!
The big keys are mowing consistently, staying away from root pruning pre emergents like Dimension and Barricade and keeping the bare spots lightly watered. Also carbon applications or peat moss really help
Thank you thank you thank you brother! I was looking for something safe for the lawn that would kill chamber bitter. I never knew the name but I can’t stand it. 😂 It triggers my trypophobia bad.
Thanks Brother, I'm not gonna fool with it after reading this. I don't want to take any steps backwards. I'm in lower SE NC. Thanks again.
by far, the best video on centipede grass on you tube. centipede grass wants nothing from humans but mowing
🙏 thank you!
Saw a video where some wanted to make their lawn greener, they said, and they used a product called Fish SEAWEED Fertilizer. Is there any benefit to using a product like that to our lawns? I ask because back in my early fire career we had a protein foam used for firefighting. It had a fish by product in it. Guys would take that home and put it down and they had the greenest yards, hell it would grow grass on bricks. Thanks again for everything as your information and advice had brought my lawn a long way back to looking good again.
Absolutely, seaweed has many benefits to any plant including grass. Contains growth hormones which cause the grass to grow like crazy. There are many liquid seaweed products on Amazon and the Lowe’s fertilizer I recommend has some Sea Kelp meal in it. Great for root growth too
Is it safe to use the Fertilome product today? I ask because we have had about 10+ inches of rain in the last 16 days. Mowing every 5 days because vrhe growth has really taken off. The Perslane or Spurge blossomed big time so I want to make sure it's okay to spray know. Used it in the fall and this spring and it knocked it out pretty good.
Yes it’s safe to use now. It’s rain safe after 3-4 hours so just make sure when you apply it doesn’t rain for a few hours (hourly forecast)
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare thank you
I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area and attempting to establish a small plot of centipede grass the tiff Blair variety. We had one day of snow this year in January and it survived. What do you think the chances are of establishing a centipede Lawn here in the Dallas area?
I think it would work fine. The southern heat in Texas it will love. Tifblair is supposed to be great
I'll be glad when I can get the hell back out of the south for several reasons but I'm sick of babysititng grass.
I use 3 of the 4 you mentioned. Another option is sethoxydim. Great for a lot of grassy weeds.
Im in Central Florida, I use Celsius. Works well. I do take exception with Atrazine. I had a lawn service treating my lawn and just about killed it. I cancelled them, They claimed all the used for weed control was Atrazine. I even had them do a test patch and it killed the grass within a week. Its taken 2 years for it to come back. So, carefull with the atrazine.
Wow I’m surprised it killed it. I wonder if they sprayed atrazine more than a couple times throughout season?
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare That's exactly how they control weeds here. They spray almost every 30 days in the summer. And 95% of the lawns here are St. Augustine, which tolerates Atrazine well. I use Celsius every 30 or so days at medium to light dose as spot treatment. I'm trying to get my neighbors St. Augustine to take over my lawn. Previous owners had Centipede installed. It is the wrong grass for central florida.
Thanks for another great video. I have had some great luck with the Fertilome spray bottle. Yard really suffered from Spurge and Perslane, this knocked it out for sure.
You are our missing link! Being new to centipede and literally learning how to have a healthy green lawn without weeds is like going back to college. Thank you for all this great information! You said to apply it monthly. Is that throughout the whole year? We live on NC coast. Thanks again.
You can definitely do throughout the whole year but I typically do throughout the growing season from about March-Oct. thanks for watching!
Are all four needed to maximize weed control? How long do you wait before applying a different application?
I try to limit the amount of chemicals I put down throughout the year. So probably not use all 4 in one year but if spot spraying it’s generally fine. It’s good to have these in the arsenal for different needs. For example it’s good to have Celsius for chamberbitter and Change Up is great for general broadleaf weed control. I will probably stop using atrazine now that I am using Isoxaben (Gallery) which I’m very impressed with as a pre-emergent. If you haven’t seen my video on it check it out
Does Change Up have a temperature restriction?
Yes it does. Use caution over 85*
Yes the label says avoid applying when temps are at least 90.
Following! Thanks
What state are you located in? very helpful video
I’m in AL. Thanks!
👍 thanks! ,👍🇺🇲👍
Good to see you back! The problem with Change up is that is gives application rate in acres instead of per 1000 ft. I'm a homeowner not a farmer.
Yeah I agree. I may do an application video. Thanks
Just divide the rate by 43.56, and the answer is your per 1000 rate.
Can it use on Bermuda lawn?
Absolutely 👍
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare thanks,Does it contain iron?
No it doesn’t but great green response in the lawn. Contains small amounts of Humic and Sea Kelp however
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare great, thanks for your response
Been following your channel for a few years. Great advice. Also like guy over it lawn Care life Jason. I love Change-Up! It works great on lespedeza. I spot spray so it's very economical I've also used Celsius it does a great job but like you said it is slow. I still have some left . Will be putting that down soon Atrazine is my go to early spring or fall application on centipede. It works is a pre-emergent and a post emergent. But I buy it straight. Spectracide made out of other things so I don't trust it completely. Thanks for your continued updates
Thanks for the support, appreciate you watching
I have three out of four of these in my shed. You tell the truth. Thank you.
Appreciate it!
I think I read you're supposed to apply it going backwards so that you're not walking through it as you're spraying. Basically, start at the farthest part away from where your hose is and work your way back towards your house.
Good point 👍
Great information on products that are relatively safe on centipede. A couple of honorable mentions would be tenacity and sedgehammer. Also, I would like to mention that Celsius and sedge hammer can be purchased in a small packet to save your pocket via Amazon or domyown websites…
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for your knowledge on centipede grass. I have a question top tier 3 (ferti-llome) and 4 (weed stop). I bought several hose spray bottles of weed stop as well as granules. It is July 18th when should I apply weed stop? I want to use up my inventory of this product before I go as more😎
You can spray now and see what it does for you but ideally either before green up (before lawn comes out of dormancy in spring) or a couple of weeks after green up. Or you could do an early fall application to help prevent some fall weeds. It’s really your choice
Lawn looking good!
Thanks - Finally got some consistent rain and it’s made the lawn pop!
Is every blade of grass its own plant? Does every blade of grass need water or can it transport it from other grass areas?
Interesting question. For centipede each runner (stolon) is it’s own individual plant to a degree. A healthy stolon will be able to spread and tack down into the soil. As far as water transport I’m not exactly sure but I think probably not
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare Thanks
Does centipede like aerating?
At first no because it does do some damage to the stolons. But if you have a thatch problem or compacted soil it’s great to do. The best time to do it is during growing season May-July
Wish I knew how to distinguish centipede from St Augustine and Bahia. They all look identical, which makes treating Mom's Florida lawn more challenging. Very Best Regards, Tom Scott Author ● Speaker ● World's Leading Expert on the Corrupt U.S. Legal System _Stack the Legal Odds in Your Favor_ _Our American Injustice System_
So on a runner (stolon), centipede has alternating nodes that extend from it. St Augustine the nodes are in the same spot so it looks like a “T”. I’ll try to do a video on identification. Thanks
So a 15-0-15 analysis would do or a 12 or 16-4-8 ??
15-0-15 is good. Try to stay away from Phosphorus (middle number)
Damn. I was mowing at around 3 inches tall at most. 😢
Good video, thanks for posting.
What do you think about milorganite 6-4-0 on centipede? I want to use the sta green that you said but wanted your experience on this one as well
Milorganite has good low Nitrogen and Iron which will give color response but I stay away from it because centipede doesn’t like Phosphorus and it’s a bio solid based fertilizer which probably contains all kids of toxic metals etc in it
@CentipedeCentralLawnCare ok thank you. I will go with the Fertilizer you chose in this video. Thanks so much
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare one more question. How often would you suggest watering the grass
Definitely not daily. Centipede is pretty drought tolerant. It needs about 1” a week if possible. Maybe in the heat of summer water twice a week. But one good rain and centipede bounces back
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare I watered once after fertilizing and one more time after that. I will not water anymore until next week. Thank you
I have seen this little boogers before. Thanks for the tip I’ll be ready for them
