Kawasaki W650 Road Trip 500 Miles
I have been doing a lot of traveling on north west of Scotland roads so decided to head south for a change. Also wanted to see how comfortable it was to do 500 miles on more busy roads on my W650
Trip includes; Dundee, Tay and Forth Road Bridges, Port of Tyne, Holy Island, Coldstream and more.

Kawasaki W650 Applecross Pass
Переглядів 95Місяць тому
The first video of my few days spent touring the north west of Scotland on my Kawasaki W650. In this video the infamous Applecross pass on a very heavily loaded W650 - hence the reason for the foot down on the corners. The bike was excellent on the trip other than the front brakes fading at one point on the single track road near Durness. I have now fitted harder pads to the front.

      @@mikedugdale281 There doesn’t seem to be much about it on the internet now, only a few comments on forums, that I can find anyway. But, from memory, the design was offered to Triumph but they didn’t buy it so it was sold to Kawasaki and they made it as a new version of their old W series - which was originally a BSA design. It would explain why they were so popular in Germany. I wonder if Kawasaki would give any information if asked?

    • @mrpingen
      @mrpingen 2 місяці тому

      Sound is from the rear camera as the helmet cam was just all wind noise - even with internal helmet mic. I am 6’2” and long distance is fine if I make sure to keep my left wrist straight and bend the right forward a bit so that it is straight at part throttle that way I am not hanging on them. Also gripping the tank with knees helps. I suffer badly with sciatica and riding the 900 is one thing that relieves the symptoms.

      The motor I used had no direction arrow so I assume it is OK to spin in any direction. Once mounted I just checked the polarity with a multimeter and then connected the positive through the diode to the battery accordingly.

      Sorry, bit of a delay in responding. Connecting the cells in series will give a 24volt battery of 280ah which works out at 6,720wh or 6.72kwh (280ah x 24v). If connecting parallel pairs in series, for example, that would give a 12volt battery of 560ah. It still works out at the same 6.72kwh of storage capacity though (560ah x 12v).

    Weighing fluids could be best method

    • @mrpingen
      @mrpingen 5 місяців тому

      I guess it is just easier to do liquids by volume. Years ago I was deputised by UK Customs & Excise to do spirit accounting. Blending raw alcohol and water also requires the temperatures to be taken into account as well as the proportion of water already in the spirit (unless it is pure alcohol, of course) so is even more complicated than just the proportions by volume of the two liquids.

    Great video. I hope you will have follow-up in the winter time to see how well it heats up the room when the outside temperature gets to 10c or lower. I myself bought a portable dual-hose Hisense with heat pump function, I cannot wait to find out how well it will work this coming winter here in the SF Bay area.

      Have the same unit you do,not used the heat yet,heard they work great,but the draining part concerns me.looks like have to use the hose to drain the water somehow.using it all summer for A/C,no need to drain it.

    Thanks for showing this. The woodwork is lovely. I have an old PA with EL34's in it. It hasn't been used for probably 40 years. I'm hoping to make it into a guitar amp.

    Superlative. Neat as a pin. Excellent throttle response. Look at her heat up full throttle! I'd really love for you to to try your hand at pulse detonation. No one seems able to do it- but I think someone who thinks out of the box like you could crack it.

      Watch out for the 5th of November video. I should be able to get away with making a proper noise and some flames in the back garden on that evening. 😊

    Sorry, saw you're very soaked feline and so many single entendres came to mind. British humour. Of course a Scot with a cheeky wee peek can assemble it in jiffy. Scottish- genetic engineers. "I'll just add a wee bit here"- goes like a Buzzbomb. Is there a limit on the fuels you can use? I'd imagine it wouldn't take to heavier oils?

      this made me laugh 😹😹 as for the question of fuels, ideally you want a gas as fuel. liquid wont work properly as it will not pulse properly. you need a gas such as, propane (best), butane (another good option), kerosene is good, gasoline, as long as you inject it slowly it will evaporate into a gas, you just dont want to flood the chamber. hope this helped ❤
