The run and your comments remind me of my own side excursions from well travelled local journeys now that retirement is here. Even in my immediate area there are roads that I've never travelled in 55+ years! Now, with no "I have to get there and back to work/family/etc" and if the day is nice, I regularly turn the wheel for a leisurely look at "I wonder what's up here"!
Exactly what I have been doing - roads I went past for decades, not having a clue where they actually went and then when traveling them thinking; "Ah, that's where that road goes to". I will definately be exploring more this coming summer.
