@@jimkienholz9905 thanks bro! Lots more vids since then - check em out if you can!
@@intheshoptvwill do! I love your attention to detail. I don’t have a hot rod but I am researching battery relocation and you have some great idea that others don’t.
@@jimkienholz9905 thats awesome to hear man! The video after this one on grounding has some really good stuff that will be useful for your project. Good luck! Let me know if I can help
Ha! My cowl vent is the exact same color as mine. When I bought my truck it was in primer but the cowl vent was that rusty color. What a coinkidink!! I bought a delet too!! I bought mine from premier street rods in havasu. Mine lays flat however the ends not so much.
@@79_Trucker I’m thinking of leaving the A-pillar drains open (even opening them up a bit more as they have a little rot). What are you planning for yours?
@@intheshoptv the same that lower part of the drain they just get beat up and hashed.
Wow! I will have to do this to mine when I start metal work on the cab. That looks great!
@@cameronadams8405 thank you! Good luck with your project
Good stuff
@@larryfonseca5217 thank you!
Mike, one heck of a nice job fitting your solid filler panel in ! I went thru the same exact fitting problem, about 6 months ago when filling my 56' OEM vent louvered panel with a solid cowl filler panel from Classic Industries. I believe they source it from Dynacorn, Camarillo, CA. Of course it's better then the alternative.. having nothing. Keep up the good work ! Dan G. Clovis, CA
Thanks bud I appreciate that. Ugh I really hate body work but I have to at least get it decent so that I can assemble and drive the truck, until I can get it to a paint and body guy that’s a true artist.
Is that the only purpose of that panel? Vent the fender? I hadn't even considered deleting mine but if that's its only function I'll probabaly delete mine as well
@@N8z14 that, and fresh air for the kick panel vents (which I also plan to delete/turn into speaker cavity.)
@@intheshoptv I'm thinking about looking into possibly using some stainless steel wool and fitting it in the drain openings. Breathable, rodent and bug resistant, and won't rust. Your thoughts..? Rgds, Dan G. Clovis, CA. 56' custom Cab build
@@dangonchoroff8413 funny, I just asked in a fb group, for opinions on whether I should leave mine open or close them up. Im leaning towards open as SOME water, even if condensation is still likely to get in there. The stainless wool is a cool idea, not sure what Im going to do yet honestly but I like where you’re going. I even thought about closing them and just adding a small fitting and drain tubing 🤷🏻♂️
Great stuff!

Yea Mike I'm working on a 55 chevy pu some of the after market parts you get don't resemble anything. It's just like well I just threw that money away.
@@user-gd1wl8yd5j its so bad. Some companies doors arent even worth it. Better off with a rotted out original unfortunately
What will you do with the bottom drain holes now that the vent is closed off?
Thats a great question! Im debating that right now actually. On one hand leaving them open is easy and God forbid any moisture gets in, it can still escape. But closing them off, prevents rodents, road moisture and dirt from getting in… not sure yet.
That looks a lot better than keeping the vent there
Right? Wish it fit better out of the box but it is what it is.
Hey brother you did great love the video I just bought a kit for my truck and no instructions I can't find anything do you know the measurement of your bottom control arm hole from the bottom of your frame and or crossmember from the bottom of the frame also I know you angled the top hats like you were supposed to and I know I need the angle my top a arms but my question is do you angle the crossmember or keep it straight and angle the top a-arm
Hey! So you want the crossmember to be welded in dead-on straight. The geometry of the spindle accounts for the canted angle of the upper control arms. Hope that makes sense.
@@intheshoptv so my kit it's from TCI it's kind of all purpose and I can't find the measurement of the bottom a-arm hole to the the bottom of the frame I've been looking all morning and last night also my kit is a little different it doesn't come with the hat it comes with the tilted A arm bracket for coilovers
I really appreciate you replying I guess what I'm trying to ask the bottom a arm stays perfectly horizontal and the top A arm bracket I've read I need to make it 3° what's confusing me as I've watched a million videos and everyone I've been watching it looks like they put 3° on the bottom A arm bracket as well
@@tuckerc3802 I can say with almost 100% certainty that my lower arms are completely squared and level to the bottom of the crossmember (which is also level). Doesnt your kit come pre-drilled for the A-arm bolts?
You lost me at “set screw” battery terminals.
I did? Oh its simple, you tom the cables, insert in terminal and clamp down.
I see this was posted 11 months ago. Any update? Issues? Still working? Thanks
It’s been flawless. I have a discount code and link available if you click the video description.
Super clean setup! I was wondering about the catch can setup.. looks good! I may get me covers soon

Looking good! Do you happen to remember where you purchased the terminal blocks you installed up front? Thanks
Thanks! I do, here ya go: amzn.to/4eKWXq5
great video!
Thank you! I was looking at some of your products just now. Do you make a rolling/sliding/bridge jack for 4 post lifts?
Did you have problem with the rotacut breaking.
First time I ever tried it, yes. Learned you have to stay real steady, and not go too fast, then they dont break.
@@intheshoptv I’ve also learned that center of the rivet head doesn’t always mean center of the hole. 4wd swap has been quite the learning curve today lol.
@@jacobray6655 very true!!
Whats your face to face dimension on your rear end? What size of tires and wheels are you using? Thanks for your time and attention towards answering my questions.
I narrowed it 3” and its hub to hub width is now 56.5”. Im running 20x10 wheels, with 285/30/20 tires. There is definitely room to go wider should one want to. I have quite a few videos on it, if you click my channel name.
Silly question but bear with me. Will your rack, you said power rack, require a pump mounted on the engine? If you're going to use a pump could would one of those old Chevy power steering pumps that mount on the back of a Delco-Remy generator be used?
Its really just a matter of providing the racks required amount of pressure. That said, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t use whatever pump you want, so long as it flows within those parameters 👍
@@intheshoptv Thanks!
I know nothing about spring rates but I wonder if it could be calculated based on factory spring weights, the original weight of your truck less your projected weight savings?
It should be based on your total loaded weight (a close approximation will suffice). Reason being, retailers like to throw out general numbers - the second you speak the word “truck”, they’re pushing a 700lb spring (which is WAYYYY) too stiff for these little lightweight trucks)
@@intheshoptv Thanks!
We only have two cars that bring back good memories of my dad and that's his Volkswagen laptop and 1955 Chevy truck
New 55’ video out next!
ANOTHER AWESOME VIDEO. LOL I was lookin at the 1955 Chevy Truck the entire time. LOL Congratulations to your son on his project.
New video for the truck in the works! Thanks man, appreciate the kind words. How’s your ride coming?
Looks good! Congrats on your son's accomplishments. You know growing up we didn't have the resources that we have today. So if you didn't have anyone to learn things like this from you ended up paying someone to just do it. It's truly a blessing for you to share your knowledge and experience with him.
Thanks for the kind words and congratulations! Yes, I used to go to work with my old man every day during the summer. He wasn’t in the automotive field, but the place he worked had a massive fleet of trucks, equipment and cars. He would be off in the field and leave me in the building and I ended up gravitating towards the repair shop and those guy took me under their wing and put me to work. (This was when people didn’t care about labor laws and such). Learned so much. He’s not as interested as I was but as long as he learns how to take care of basics, im content!
Definitely 🔥

Glad I stumbled upon this channel my friend. I'm building a 6.0 in a 49 Chevy. Of course the same intake as yourself. I could not get injectors in the intake. Long story short I had to ream the holes out in order to get my Holly injectors to fit the intake. As for the catch can I'm glad I saw that video as well. I will be running boost and it's good to know I need to go with the double inlets on the catch can. It's my first time ever building LS motors so a lot of this stuff is new to me. Great great explanations on your videos. Thank you.
Hey! Thank you! So I just went through making the injectors fit properly. There are several different o-rings. You need to find the ones that fit your intake/rails. Here’s the intake video about it: Fabricated Sheet Metal Intake Manifolds - Should YOU Get One? ua-cam.com/video/ko7hYBJtKQw/v-deo.html
I mounted a similar battery box to my frame. Instead of a single battery, I used two Braille 3121s wired in parallel.
Very cool! Ive since gotten the whole system wired up. Check it out: ua-cam.com/play/PLS6i13ij_WMmwcpofnsWqjymNiubw9MWG.html&si=qTUPKAirNsC4r3nG
I like the mounting of the firewall, it follows everything you have done so far. I can't say how Rustoleum will hold up, but I'm sure a call to their tech line can get you some answers. They also have a farm implement line of paint, which may be more durable. There is one piece of advice I'd like to give you, don't trust anyone else's prep work, there may not have been a direct-to-metal primer on the firewall, and if you paint over that, you will have problems.
Yep - I used the farm implement stuff on the frame. Anything I do paint-wise to this vehicle (including the entire body) will be a temporary paint job to get me driving and saving. I have a painter/body person that will get this truck to paint eventually
My cobras are not beveled and of course my layout got kicked over. Starting to hate differential work more than electrical which I didn't think was even possible
Thats sucks! Hope you get it sorted out. Try looking again, there is usually always some differentiating marks, patterns or even wear marks on the bearing/cap mating surface
I was unsure if I would like this at the start but it sure turned out well. Are you doing a firewall mounted brake booster? Can you drill the holes from the inside so it lines up easily?
I wasn’t sure either! I just knew I didn’t want to weld up 1000 holes and I wanted the smoothed look. Planned to weld the whole panel in, but decided to try this for future viewers that might not be able to weld. Yes! Im planning a firewall booster. I dont have it yet, but I “think” it can - I guess it depends on if you can fit a drill in the confines of that interior bracket. We’ll see soon
Another great video! Firewall looks great; you offered those who can't weld or don't have access to a welder another way to add custom touches to their projects. Ironically, this is coming from a guy who just spent 10 hours today welding on a S-10 firewall with his buddy to smooth it out. Just a couple more days, a few hundred tack welds along with about 6 more holes to fill and we will be done!!
Ugh tell me about it, I enjoy welding and fabrication but that frame and suspension drained me for a while lol. What era s10 do you have?
@@intheshoptv It's my friends S-10 which is a 1986 I believe. Smoothing the firewall, 427 LS dyno'd at 740 horsepower, upgraded transmission, back halfing the truck to fit 12 inch rims, complete rewire and it goes on. As soon as we are done with his truck we are going to start on my '66 Lincoln with basically the same engine but a little less power and a Tremec 5 speed because I want to be a little different. It's already bagged on a suspension I made myself 10 years ago but I have a new, updated suspension kit from Murray Custom Rides that's way stronger than what I made. Also new Wilwood big brake kit from Little Shop Customs. My buddy and I were working on his truck in his basement but I told him to bring it over because I have a lift and lots more room. While we work on his it gives me time to save money for my engine. He already has all of the parts except for the back half kit, we were waiting on rims and tires so we could figure out the width of his axle. Sounds exciting and complicated but neither of us has back halted a truck or performed an LS swap although we have extensive knowledge of cars and welding so we are confident of our success. 15 hours this weekend and the fire wall isn't done yet so we have a ways to go!! I've been watching your channel since the shop was built, keep up the good work.
Thanks for putting the link in for the Rivnut tool, I have been installing them by hand for a long time and never thought about finding an installer. The smooth firewall really looks good no matter the color!
You’re welcome. I hear ya… done plenty of that. I don’t know why I waited so long to get the tool
Ive only seen one other set of firewall panels that can be bolted on. I forget what company makes them but they for the 60’s C10’s and are cut smaller than the original firewall which makes them look more like a decorative bolt on, unlike this which looks like a custom piece. Great idea and well done!
Thanks!! Ive seen those along with inner fenders for the C10’s! I haven’t seen them for these trucks though. Wonder if they exist?
You’re right, the first satin black IS gorgeous. Wow.
Absolutely love it.
I love your videos sr you’re very specific all over the the project you’re working on front suspension rear suspension etc…keep up man and make more videos God bless 👍🏼

Are you concerned about the metal rattling? I like this idea and plan on doing the same on mine. Great videos.
Great question!! I’m 1/2 way through filming the next episode that will show it finished - that’s one of the topics I’ll address. It’ll be out this Friday!
Well done Mike both the job and presentation
Thanks. I appreciate that
Cut off the ends and replace them with ends that take the larger bearings and eliminate the c-clips. Moser and Strange make just about any housing end you could want.

I hope the channel continues to grow, man.
Great minds do think alike, this came out great! Gets me excited, I have plans for my firewall as well, and it's similar to how you did yours but it will be double skinned welded mild inner with a bolted in smooth polished stainless outer. I can't wait!
Thanks hoping to get it done in the next video. Your project sounds cool
