    Thanks for putting the link in for the Rivnut tool, I have been installing them by hand for a long time and never thought about finding an installer. The smooth firewall really looks good no matter the color!

      You’re welcome. I hear ya… done plenty of that. I don’t know why I waited so long to get the tool

    Another great video! Firewall looks great; you offered those who can't weld or don't have access to a welder another way to add custom touches to their projects. Ironically, this is coming from a guy who just spent 10 hours today welding on a S-10 firewall with his buddy to smooth it out. Just a couple more days, a few hundred tack welds along with about 6 more holes to fill and we will be done!!

      Ugh tell me about it, I enjoy welding and fabrication but that frame and suspension drained me for a while lol. What era s10 do you have?

      @@intheshoptv It's my friends S-10 which is a 1986 I believe. Smoothing the firewall, 427 LS dyno'd at 740 horsepower, upgraded transmission, back halfing the truck to fit 12 inch rims, complete rewire and it goes on. As soon as we are done with his truck we are going to start on my '66 Lincoln with basically the same engine but a little less power and a Tremec 5 speed because I want to be a little different. It's already bagged on a suspension I made myself 10 years ago but I have a new, updated suspension kit from Murray Custom Rides that's way stronger than what I made. Also new Wilwood big brake kit from Little Shop Customs. My buddy and I were working on his truck in his basement but I told him to bring it over because I have a lift and lots more room. While we work on his it gives me time to save money for my engine. He already has all of the parts except for the back half kit, we were waiting on rims and tires so we could figure out the width of his axle. Sounds exciting and complicated but neither of us has back halted a truck or performed an LS swap although we have extensive knowledge of cars and welding so we are confident of our success. 15 hours this weekend and the fire wall isn't done yet so we have a ways to go!! I've been watching your channel since the shop was built, keep up the good work.

    Ive only seen one other set of firewall panels that can be bolted on. I forget what company makes them but they for the 60’s C10’s and are cut smaller than the original firewall which makes them look more like a decorative bolt on, unlike this which looks like a custom piece. Great idea and well done!

      Thanks!!
      Ive seen those along with inner fenders for the C10’s! I haven’t seen them for these trucks though. Wonder if they exist?

    I like the mounting of the firewall, it follows everything you have done so far. I can't say how Rustoleum will hold up, but I'm sure a call to their tech line can get you some answers. They also have a farm implement line of paint, which may be more durable. There is one piece of advice I'd like to give you, don't trust anyone else's prep work, there may not have been a direct-to-metal primer on the firewall, and if you paint over that, you will have problems.

    • @intheshoptv
      @intheshoptv  Місяць тому

      Yep - I used the farm implement stuff on the frame. Anything I do paint-wise to this vehicle (including the entire body) will be a temporary paint job to get me driving and saving. I have a painter/body person that will get this truck to paint eventually

    I was unsure if I would like this at the start but it sure turned out well. Are you doing a firewall mounted brake booster? Can you drill the holes from the inside so it lines up easily?

    • @intheshoptv
      @intheshoptv  Місяць тому +1

      I wasn’t sure either! I just knew I didn’t want to weld up 1000 holes and I wanted the smoothed look. Planned to weld the whole panel in, but decided to try this for future viewers that might not be able to weld. Yes! Im planning a firewall booster. I dont have it yet, but I “think” it can - I guess it depends on if you can fit a drill in the confines of that interior bracket. We’ll see soon
