    Coghlan's products are for the most part crap and not worth buying. I will use their solid fuel heat tabs however. Those are okay. Any other Coghlan's products you guys will endorse as a good product?

      I like their little multi spice kits you can pick up at Walmart. Their bug nets are pretty good. They have cast iron cook ware that’s real good. I use their brand of mountain pie makers at my house they are tough. They have their own version of a folding bow saw that is good. They have a pretty good coffee maker that you put on the fire but it’s big. Their rain ponchos and space blankets are the same as everyone else’s. They have a pile of stuff some good some decent some poor quality but I can’t say I don’t like everything but the fuel tabs.

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 Fair enough. I tend to keep it simple when I camp. (Army infany) I've never used a bug net or cast iron cookware. I've seen their ponchos and they're a bit flimsy for my liking. I prefer to go with a good militry surplus poncho. I do own a couple of the spice kits and I do endorse them. I do realize that people have different styles of camping and people have different needs and requirements, so I am by no means claiming that my opinion is any more (or less) valid than yours or anyone else's. I'm sure you're a very experienced outdoorsman. Thank you for your input! I appreciate it! 😄

The glass on each side are actually Andersen windows. The chairs and signs I bought. Along with all the trim work up on the roof is all scarf jointed pallet boards. I never showed the other side yet I used corrugated metal and more pallet wood to do a few other sections. Everyone loves it when they come over. It has 8 seats but more people fit 😄 I’m going to eventually epoxy different shell casings all over the top I need to build a lot up though.

    Coghlan's sardine tin survival kit is a classic! Though it gave rise to many snarky comments that you'd be better off with the original can of sardines, I can't see any survival situation that would not be improved by all this helpful stuff. But can you imagine sitting under a tree in a wet snowfall trying to get those matches to light. Yikes. Because it can't be altered my idea for this kit is to put it in an edc pocket organizer pouch with a mylar poncho and a few key additions like a knife, flashlight, lifeboat matches & Bic, some medications/first aid, and water purification tabs or a filter straw. Thanks WS for reviewing an old favorite!!

      Hello again! Good to see another comment! You are right though, we spend a lot of time going places in our vehicles so that’s a great place to store some edc/survival gear. The little pry bar is very useful and takes up very little space it weighs basically nothing.

  • @cynthiawigington1236

    Thanks for the fine review of these amazing titanium tiny tools. I went to the link you provided and was shocked to see that one of them came with 10 spare blades and was $29. I thought they would cost quite a bit more. When I was in my 20s I bought a brass fisherman's key holder that I still use today. Maybe someday your will be able to show yours to your great-grandchildren who will marvel at how old and good it still is. As far as what direction we want you to go, you should just follow your joy of gear and the outdoors. As far as my gear goes, my favorite is the original Jerven bag which the Norwegian military uses. They say it is impossible to freeze to death in it. There is one version of it called The Hunter, which is longer and you can get with some primaloft insulation. I wish I could send you one, and I hope one of your fans will. I imagine you work hard and have to save up vacation time just to get in the hunting you want to do, and I know you have kids, so getting outside is not so easy, but I wish you a year filled with the outdoors and cool old timer tips for us. Take care of yourself. Best, Cynthia

      Thanks Cynthia! I appreciate your kind words! I will definitely look into the jerven bag. Especially the hunter version you speak of. I really like doing this UA-cam channel it’s a lot of fun for me so I’m going to continue to do it I’m happy it’s going the way it is for how new the channel really is. I think a lot of this gear is still going to be around when I get to be an old man myself and my children will have a lot of stuff to sort and disperse. Thanks for letting me know about that bag and the short story about that key holder! Thanks for coming back again i appreciate it!

      Not going to argue any point here, but I used to make and sell kits at gun shows all over the south. Wife and I. You can make and sell a kit similar to that cheaper on the supplies and equipment....the diff comes in your wages per hour you add in. These kits work out so well to the public because we don't have to make our own. Experts like all of us here on these forums can make them better and cheaper....the "civilian" market just buys them and stashes them and never uses them.

      Well....was going to make one up. Lost two hours of typing when I closed my tablet on a restroom run. A decent can with lid....American Science and Surplus. They have a.tin can that's a bit over twice the vol of that Coghlans can. $1.25. Strip it or paint it. The Coghlans golf pencil is approx 20 cents....A wooden golf pencil is 8 cents. The fire tinder cubes are cubes cut off the Coghlans tinder sticks. The sticks run $3 for twelve. A common aluminum screech whistle is 30 cents. A 300 box of strike.anywheres is $3. Needles, 13 cents, nails 5 cents. The cost just about doubles if you add in your labor, though.

  • @jastrapper190
    @jastrapper190 7 днів тому

    Is the paper that the duct tape stuck to waxed? It would be nice if that material would also be available for “note taking” with the included pencil. One very important use for paper and pencil/pen in many “survival situations” is to leave a note. At a vehicle or crash site etc. letting rescuers know that you were there and have set off in a certain direction at a certain time. If I was the “brains” or designer of that kit. I would make the paper a highly visible color. Better to serve as a “flag” to attract attention to it.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430

    Not sure if this kit floats, but there's one that claims it does. One advantage to this "sealed design", is it creates a psychological barrier to opening it unless necessary. The downside is, you can't easily verify all the contents are there (most people don't have the technology to see through aluminum containers) and you can't check the integrity of the items.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430 7 днів тому

      Yes that’s why it’s nice to have someone open one to watch. It doesn’t help with your specific kit but it does give you a general idea of what’s in there. I would say it would float being sealed and the extra airspace in the tin. It’s not real heavy.

      Yeah. Green tips have been around for what, fifteen to twenty years? ALL strike anywheres before that were red with a white tip. Brent, the wax on the wood matches destroyed the striker on the book matches. Those were just fine, just the striker was waxed over. And just to be honest, ALL waxed matches are destroyed in my opinion. You had more success than I ever had!

      That’s awesome to hear! I like this kit it is very nostalgic and it’s also still made today which is awesome. One of the kits I remember most when I was younger was the SOL origin kit I thought it was awesome when all the components were locked into the shell. I had some before that but it was the most interesting to me. I bought one and reviewed it on the channel already

    I don't know if anybody told you. The two velcro squares are infrared reflective identification. They call it glint tape. And you put one on top and one on your left arm.. you say you have night vision. Use that infrared light and point it at the reflector.

      @whitetailsurvival2430 8 днів тому

      Thanks a few people did mention that they were IR patches now and I do appreciate you reiterating that because no one has mentioned where they go yet. Some people said they liked them and it was nice to keep them from friendly fire then other people said they get you killed so I’m not positive about what to think about that yet 😅 thanks for the info though I appreciate it!

    • @paratrpr
      @paratrpr 8 днів тому

      @whitetailsurvival2430 definitely keep them. I was in the 82nd airborne division. They use them in conjunction with AC-130 gunships mainly. That's what the one on top of your helmet does. It identifies friendlies to the aircraft. It can also identify lost personnel it's a helicopters which are using nods as well.

    • @paratrpr
      @paratrpr 8 днів тому

      @whitetailsurvival2430 it can identify you to the enemy. That's assuming they have night vision themselves. But being that this is a survival kit. They are essential. They reflect as much as a strobe light flashes.

    • @paratrpr
      @paratrpr 8 днів тому

      It is much harder for them to see the one on top of your helmet than it is on your shoulder. That's what that little velcro patch is on the arm of new uniforms. That's so you can cover it

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430 8 днів тому

      O ok I seen that little flap before on there that makes sense to cover it if your in an unfriendly environment and in a situation the enemy has IR tech also. That’s cool stuff to know. It’s super intriguing the way that a Velcro patch can be a piece of IR gear! That is really interesting

    The cloth sleeve it comes in is made of Nomex, just like the flight gloves, so it's fire resistant. And the aluminized plastic pouch can be used as a signal mirror.

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 I have an old pair of aviator gloves made of Nomex and kidskin. That's leather from young goats. It was used in gloves for a LONG time, and inspired the phrase handle with kid gloves. I think they're all made of cowhide instead of kidskin now. The leather is so thin it doesn't interfere with your sense of touch. One day I put my gloves on and reached in my pocket that had some change in it. I grabbed a quarter and when I ran my thumb and fingertips over it, I could tell heads from tails without looking. I've never had a pair of gloves before or since I could do that with. Nomex is used by flight crews on aircraft carriers in case something blows up and catches fire. The gloves I have were used by army aviators and other military pilots. SWAT teams were Nomex hoods when they raid drug labs, just in case a meth lab goes boom. The rest of your body may not be covered in Nomex, but it will keep your head from catching on fire. Kevlar is also "flameproof". We wore Kevlar gloves in the shop so we didn't cut our hands on sheet metal we handled all day. When sparks from a welder hit it, the Kevlar didn't catch fire, but it melted. If you ever melted a nylon shoelace that was frayed on the end and touched it while it was still melted, that's the same feeling you'd get on your hands just in a small spot.

      If people were really curious of how much it costed and they watched the whole video I mentioned that I bought it on eBay so common sense would tell you to type the video name on eBay and it will most likely come up to purchase. All the ones I found were different prices as for example I bought the cheapest one I could find which was 134 dollars. I seen others on there for 189 and up this isn’t a regular store item you can just buy so the prices very from seller to seller so spouting out one number that I paid is useless for this kit. Now something that’s in production I will mention or leave a link in the description so people can buy it! Thanks for the advice though i appreciate it!
