Props for going out there just as if you'd had to jump out of your car and head into the hills in a sudden "situation." This time of year in Upstate NY the woods are pure misery---deerflies, dripping humidity, weapons-grade brambles, mosquito clouds 24/7. The GearPods kit is a confidence-builder though. I think even someone unskilled would be able to manage a few days till rescue. I would enjoy 3-part series of videos (1) kit review, (2) real life test, and (3) kit evaluation with recommended additions based on your experience. Thanks WS!
Thanks for the advice I like that idea what do you think about using a specific item in the kit for a single more in depth review. Like the saw for example turning it into a buck saw or bow saw something that takes a lot of time wrapped into its own video?
@whitetailsurvival2430 A detailed look at a survival kit component would be an excellent idea----shelters, tools, fishing supplies etc. or even simple items with multiple uses in a survival situation.
Absolutely other than editing it’s actually really fun to do. These videos are worth the time of making. I might even do all of them. I am especially going to make overnight videos with the viewer sent. Survival kits. thanks for coming back again watching and commenting. I really appreciate it.
Good job, dude. I like the actual field testing of the gear. A lot of these kits are gimmicky or just contain low quality junk, so it's good to see it actually being used. I appreciate the editing you did in this one and i like this style of video. I would also like to see ways to make the best use of certain items in such kits, as in making the bow frame for the saw especially since those saws will kink and jam unless they are held straight, it can be worth the extra effort. Maybe do a kit review while out using it? Either way, good stuff, good job, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the awesome input. I really appreciate it. Do you believe people would be interested in seeing me use certain parts of the kit like that saw in its own independent video maybe showcasing different ways to use it. It wouldn’t have to be long. I’m going to be looking formore input, like yours to help me decide what I can do on more videos between overnight days
@@whitetailsurvival2430 I would watch it. A lot of these kits have the same if not very similar gear so maybe picking a particular item that repeats itself in other kits to demonstrate not necessarily all items all the time
Yea I need to find a new lid for my cup now 😑 I can’t believe I did that. It is a cool system though and I don’t believe this is going to be my last video with that one
Great first overnighter! Do the next one with the following day off from work. It was good to watch a video where real things went sideways, just like real life. Only thing i would do differently would be to carry a gun for the bears. Can't wait for the next overnighter!
I actually did have a gun on me the entire episode if you look close while I’m building the shelter when I turned, you can see a print on my T-shirt. There are a lot of people that are afraid of guns and do not like them so I decided to conceal it For the videos if you go and watch the video of the 1960s storm survival kit where I built the shelter, you can clearly see my 357 Magnum with that many bears in the area I do like to be armed they don’t really bother me, but it only takes one curious bear to make a bad night
This was awesome! Great job going out there and using the kit! And even though you didn't really sleep, you were relatively comfortable; warm, covered etc. I think with those saws, less pressure and slower is better. But with the bigger logs once they get into the middle they bind up like you saw. Overall great job. I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually test a survival kit overnight. Would like to see a follow up review on how you think the kit worked/didn't work.
That’s a great idea I had another comment about doing a post review also! I had another thought about doing a few shorter videos on things like the saw specifically and ways to make it better like possible turning it into a buck saw or bow saw with some other items but yes it definitely kept me warm and dry if I had a good bit of cushion under me I actually would have been alright to sleep for a while comfortably. I was a little tired at work the next day but i definitely got enough naps to function at work just fine
That seems to be a popular mentality in the comments section but so far I’m not getting anymore views than the regular kit videos. I will probably do a few more to see if it’s worth the time of making and editing the videos! If it it’s worth the time then I will definitely do more. The video took about 10 hours to make and 4 hours to edit and break apart the regular videos only take about 2 hours totally between recording and editing 😂 hopefully I get more views on these overnight tests so I can do more I enjoy doing them they are fun for sure!
UA-cam viewers, I think, never realize how much effort it takes for content creators to produce their vids...I always marvel at the effort you guys make to produce informative and fun content.
Super interesting to actually see these kits tested. A lot easier buying them. 😁 Maybe combined with that one kit that had food and tea and coffee would be a great addition for all that energy you had to burn. Then the kit with the arrows for roasted turkey would have been nice in a perfect world. ... As for filming, do what takes the least amount of energy, imo... Maybe edit it down to a shorter vid (as hard as that is) viewership tends to have short attention spans. Good job!
Yea it’s hard ti squeeze all the stuff I want into the video it would be nice to make them 20-30 minutes but so much is lost that way my second thought was to break it down into multiple episodes
So honestly, it was not that bad on smaller stuff but on anything large, it would almost be a waste of time and energy now maybe I could rig it up to be a bucksaw or a bowsaw if you could get the blade tight enough, it would work the teeth actually cut in both directions in pairs of two. It’s a cool concept if you could make it a solid saw.
Really beautiful piece of land you have there. Im just not convinced those kits are worth the effort. My regular gear which is all extremely budget but has been acquired over years of trial and error. It's now to the point i can survive almost anywhere and its not heavy. Now winter demands a bit more but for the most part. A good tarp , a poncho liner and poncho. A air mattress, A metal water bottle and cup with lid. Membrane solutions water filter and 6liter bag with hose. A fire kit and first aid kit. Cooking a titanium twig stove and alcohol stove. I carry a 50' ridge line with 6 prucie knots. An a bag of para cord with duck tape. I carry a folding knife and a 4in fixed blade also a folding saw. The whole kit doesn't weigh much. My scale is broken when i get a new one that isn't battery powered ill give a weigh. I wanna say 12pounds. But thats a guess. I really respect you going out and doing the work. The only way to improve is do it. I would add company makes it much more fun. Never lose your sense of humor it always helped get me through the worst of times. Good job 👏
Thank you I appreciate it! It seems like you have found a good system that works for you. That’s a great thing to hear and it seems like there’s a lot of good stuff going on with your kit! Eventually I’m going to get into testing some more advanced kits with more sustainable gear but while the weather is allowing I’m enjoying testing these premade small and micro pocket survival kits. It’s a challenge for sure to do what you need to with such minimal gear but I like the challenge it’s fun 😁 thanks for the comment I appreciate it!
@@whitetailsurvival2430 well, not exact a critique, but I think you almost was burned in the mylar plastic hehehe, BTW the video and the adventure was amazing.

One last thing. I got into the survival game because i got lost at 8000 feet in the Colorado Rockies and could have died because i didn't have a survival kit. Once something like that happens in real life you take wilderness survival seriously the rest of your life.
Yes, you’re absolutely right. That is a serious eye-opener. I would not want to be stuck in that situation without some sort of kit I would like to hear that whole story you should type it all out and send that to my Instagram page so I can read it if you have one my page is Whitetail_survival I don’t do a lot on that page and you’ll know it’s the right one because the profile picture is my UA-cam channel. Thanks for sharing your advice and telling me that quick story. I appreciate it. Thanks for coming back and watching every video.
When I do overnights with other kits i definitely will for sure I’m trying to use just what’s in the kits for now. I may possibly do a catch and cook also!
