Dude can you send me one of those mufflers for my 543
Nice!
Great saws they are rippen
330 is a real good saw i had one used it for palm trees in California, my buddy had a stihl 029 he claimed would out cut the poulan we mad a bet i had a stihl 029 that i never wanted gave it away . good times
Nice testing. Gotta do what works for you. Cheers
That's right!!! Need to test in some pine now to see if the results are the same.
@@dubbssawshop do you know if Pine will be used at the races?
@@frankz1125 I think they are using spruce, but pine is about the closest thing around me that's similar, maybe poplar or something will work also.
@@dubbssawshop nice. Good luck . Cheers
Definitely not a failure in my book. Just testing the limits and seeing what didn't work... And could have just been a defective piston or ring too.
@@matthewknight5641 After talking with a few people, we think the ring broke first and caused the cascade of events. Definitely a good learning experience.
@@dubbssawshop I'm just getting into building saws. I've worked on them off and on for a long time but recently started porting shaving some off the cylinder. Do you still like your Dyno Jo mandrels? I'd like to cut squish but I'd really like to cut it at an angle and cut a dome in the piston to match the chamber. I figure that would be taking weight off the piston and also the smaller distance from the ring to top of piston should let my exhaust out a little easier. And I think it might even help with getting air into the cylinder as well . Do you think the Dyno joe mandrel could be made to cut squish at an angle rather than flat?
I was thinking about cutting me an old piston to the angle I'll be using. Then glueing some sand paper to the top. Using it to cut squish then pealing off the sand paper and seeing if it would run good like I'm thinking. It might just be a waste of time but I really think it might be the way to go rather than cutting a flat band in the top
@@matthewknight5641 each squish shape has different run characteristics, tapered squish bands are great, just don't thin the top of the piston to much, leave about .100" of meat above the ring to prevent it from breaking. 👍🏻 go for it man, may tags a bit of sanding, but it can be done.
@@dubbssawshop im gonna try it and see how it goes . I think I'm gonna get me a dyno joe cutter here soon and I believe that's gonna help me alot with my builds. I got Aaron Lynch to build me a 460 lite and I'm excited about getting it. It's in the mail already. I can't wait to see how other porters set them up to make them so strong.
Very nice test setup 👌 love the chain work.
Thank you very much!! It's as scientific as a backyard mechanic can get it 😆 🤣
Are we aloud to run .325 on the 361 clones at SF?
Yea buddy!!!! No chain rules in that class, can run a full blown race chain if you have one.👍🏻 I just don't have one 😂
Be very very quiet!!! I need my little advantage 😂😂.
My next thing i buy is gonna be a dyno joe cutter
I've been watching your videos for a while now and man you have came a long way with the saws. I'm new to porting and all but I appreciate you sharing the videos because it helps me alot
@@matthewknight5641 I appreciate that!! Definitely plenty to learn about all the different style builds. I feel and see the progress but there is plenty more left to gain also, that's why I love it!!!!
@@dubbssawshop me to man.. hey I ordered me the large mandrel from dyno joe and hopefully in a week or two I can get the small one also. When I ported my pinkway and seen how it went from a turd to all a sudden smokin my 550xp... After that I was hooked on porting them
@@matthewknight5641 just remember to order the spacer rings if you didn't. 👍🏻
@@dubbssawshop I ordered it with the set for 52 mm and it looks like they are out of the 54 mm and I was really needing both those but hopefully Friday when I get paid I can order a few more sizes also. Then here In a week or two I'd like to get the small mandrel so I can do my smaller saws as well. Aaron Lynch built me a 460 lite and it should be there probably today or tomorrow and I'll be able to get a better idea of what is being done to make them have so much power. I feel I probably got lucky with my pinkway saw and I'm excited to see Aaron's build so I'll have a fast saw but more important I'll have kinda a road map for doing my own
@@matthewknight5641 I'm pretty sure I have a set of 50mm and 54mm sleeves, there yours if you want em 👍🏻 Free 99, just shoot me an email to dubbssawshop@gmail.com with your address and I'll send em out this weekend.
That sawsa skareeeman
Love your saw builds🤙
Saws running 👌🏼👌🏼 there all fast because the saws rippin 💨🔥🤘🏼
👍👍 good testing!
Thank ya!!! Trying to iron out all the fine details. SF will be here in no time 👍🏻
See you there. It’s the 11th and 12th- right?
Little saws great! Hopefully you win with it! I'm sure enjoying my 366 Aaron Lynch ported up for me! Doesn't quite have the chain speed you have but wow the torque is through the roof! I'm going to try a 8 pin soon!
Heck yea man!! The 8 pin will do fine on there, sou da like it def has the torque to back it up. Try some .325 on it to!!
@@dubbssawshop Yes also 325 in near future I just need a couple sprockets Monday.
Very interesting.
Yeppers. Did you see that "race chain" thing looks wicked. You gain some speed, but it comes at a cost of hours and hours with a hand file!!! But out of the box .325 Stihl RS is a bit faster on this saw anyhow.
@@dubbssawshop yes that race chain looks wicked. I’ve been running Stihl 3/8s I think it’s a 33rs chain for years. I did buy a loop of 23rs for my little 4910. We’ll see how that performs here before long. 😎
@@jasontweedy6982 oh yea, the 4910 will love that 23rs!!!
Man that sounds REAL good..
Thank ya Matt!! I think it turned out awesome. Feels way better in the hands than the video shows. But she pulls pretty good. 👍🏻
Like to see the same test going from white oak to soft wood over your choice. All have a great day!
Oh me too!!! I haven't made many cuts in pine with it, but it shreds it 👍🏻
👍🆙👽
Seems a little big. I have found a die grinder works great but I always look at the oiler slot and have found sometimes the oil hole is located to far to the outside of the bar. So I will grind/slot towards the center of the bar so it can pick up oil as it should.
Nice comparison buddy!..Been checking out these these little buggers. ALOHA from Maui my friend!..🤜🤛🤙🏽
@@daninuesca3801 WOW!!!, Maui, man I'd love to come see that part of the world!!! I bet it's awesome 👍🏻!! Maybe one day a vacation will send me that way.
@@dubbssawshop you're welcome anytime buddy!..🤙🏽
This why I don't like using aftermarket cylinders and pistons, I bought a new hyway 52 mm kit for my 372 and did nothing to the cylinder bolted it onade four cuts after break in and broke the piston and top ring ? I call ryon at Wolf Creek and he sent me another cylinder kit no question asked but I sent it to a well known porter and he ported it put it on my saw and ran it until it popped so it's OEM for me
@@larrywarner9314 yea the FT kits have a very flat exhaust floor and roof. Makes good power but can bite you in the end.
Bummer dude!
@@jamiewykes8585 it happens, sucks for sure, but we will get it back rockin'
I no couple hrs to me is not worth unreliable power!!
@@alltherpmthis one was a cheap $25 FT cylinder kit so my hopes weren't to high, it was a test build for SawFest. The oem build is going back on for the race just a bit sooner now 😆
@dubbssawshop is there big Gaines in port widing?, maybe try to take some tension off ring?
👍👍 was that the cylinder at Smittys? That was a runner!
@@crazyfeller5704 sure was!!! I never would have thought this one would snag after all the blitz runs. Crazy
@@crazyfeller5704 but with a small amount of exhaust clean up, and a good piston, she'll be golden to live again.
You will have it going in no time
Well good thing it was the farmertec cylinder. Good thing you have the oem! Have to see it back like it was!
@@tedneitzel that's right!!! 15k rpm here we come. 😁😁
Bummer, I know the feeling.
Glad to see you have aa backup plan ready to go.
If your not breaking eggs your not cooking hard enuff
@@CharlesBrisco you got that right buddy!!! Congrats on 30K 👏 👏
I have a video with the same title maybe it’s a curse
@@steelcityperformancesaws oh man that sucks!! Must be a good time for blowing up
Sux being this close to SawFest but if I know you you’ll get’r done.
@@Houseworksaws luckily I kept the oem P&C, it's already ported up too 👍🏻 just gotta toss it on and she'll be back in action.
They usually always catch on the floor of the exhaust from my experience. Most people think roof but on the down stroke they grab the floor.
@@Houseworksaws there's a very small knick on the floor, it may have just been enough. The groove above the exhaust port was odd to me. Looks like the ring dug a ditch a few degrees above the exhaust roof. Saw probably had 5 tanks on it. And we ran it hard at Smitty's I figured that's when it would've popped 😂😂 but nope it waited til about the 5th cut today.
@@dubbssawshopRight lol who the hell knows what actually happens at 13-14-15k rpm lol 😆 all sorts of stuff goes on real quick. You’ll make it better and better. No sweat
The floor makes sense to me, the ring catching on the way down seems like it would chunk the piston above it like that.
I think you’re right Matt the bottom is more app to snag most people don’t pay attention to the shape of the bottom of the port, which is typically fairly flat if you widen the port and leave sharp corners on the bottom, it will most definitely snag.
👍🆙👽
😬🤐
@@Doc-Cole_Trickle-of-Chainsaws gotta send em high sometimes!!!!
@@dubbssawshopGlad it was the FT cylinder
@@Doc-Cole_Trickle-of-Chainsaws no doubt about that. 😁
Now thats a freaking rippah!..🫡👍🤙🏽
👍
I got one just to see how it ( runs, cuts) did a breakin ...( heat cyle 3x) after that a slight muff mod.. and intake gasket / carb match ) gotta say....runs pretty Damn good !!! Thumbs up. 👍
@@donjohnstone9685 I'm very suprised with it. For $140/$150 is a great saw to have around the farm or truck, small and can still get it done. 👍🏻
I like my v moddest so far, runs good for all stock. Looking forward to how they port up. Keep up the good work Dubbs!
@@BuckYaSaws Thanks man!!! I can't wait to do them. I bet they'll be some spunky little jokers. 👍🏻
Can’t wait for the mods to begin! Got some more time on my v-mod today. Good stuff mr Dubbs!
@@BuckYaSaws thank you man!!! Im ready to dive in them myself to see what comes out of that small little frame saw.
Bet the vmod will port up nicely!
Nice..🫡👍🤙🏽
Close race.
Good combo
Looks like an awesome place for a kid to grow up.
