Helping people get fit for 100,000 life-changing adventures.
I’ve always been drawn to outdoor adventure. Ski racing, competitive trail running, rock climbing, mountain biking…I love getting outside and interacting with our world!
This led me to my passion-helping others find adventure in their own lives. With WILDR Fitness, I combine my love for adventure with a research-based approach to fitness training called the Adventure Ready Model.
I believe the point of training is to increase your capacity to interact with the world around you, with confidence and without having to worry about injuries.
From professional mountaineers to amateur hikers, recreational athletes to weekend warriors, WILDR is the perfect place to bring together fitness AND fun. Our community is built on smiles and hellos as much as it is built on lifting weights and climbing mountains.

6 Tips to Not Feel Sore After Your First Day Skiing
Really great stuff here. Great presentation, great content. As for other drills, we have a drill on our channel called the Long Radius Retraction drill. It incorporates the "get forward" message you have here with the idea of projecting the inside half to the apex. So many skiers are told not to pop up during transition, and that results in them being static and afraid to move their bodies. But we need to keep moving the hips down the hill. The body and the feet take a different path. So if you're not moving the hips down the hill, you will get stuck aft. Great stuff. And if you'd like to checkout the Long Radius Retraction drill, we'd love your feedback, the link is here: ua-cam.com/video/HbZBFqpZ4-g/v-deo.html
What is the time between exercist work outs?? Dick
Nice Information🙂🙂
love the skiing shot !
I am a perimenopausal personal fitness trainer and love that you have listened to a leading expert in this field and passing the knowledge onto your clients, well done and keep up the good work!
These are sweet!
Thank you! I get a lot of inflammation in my legs and feet.. I do the stretches from the calve stretch on, but that foot stretch is awesome! Needed to see that one..
You’re so welcome! Getting into the feet feels so good
Yes i am interested ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is also really helpful for after doing dry land training for skiing. Feels like I did actual skiing after a practice.
Absolutely! I'm glad that this was helpful!
Thank you. These felt good after opening day.
Where did you go opening day??
@ Big Sky is my home mountain. We are off to a great start but could use some fresh snow.
@ right on! More snow for sure is needed up here. Our opening day at Castle Mountain is today!
@@wildrfitness Enjoy every turn.
The chest strap can slip down, but women can wear it under their bra. For men, the sweat can prevent it to slip down. But we have to tight the strap enough, and it is not very comfortable. But more accurate than the wrist sensor.
Colorado in 2 weeks!
You'll have to let me know how it is!!
I laughed way too hard at the plyobox kick away at 2:42 😂 Hope your channel blows up! Really good, thorough presentation and interesting variations that are new to me as someone who generally trains like a powerlifter.
haha thankfully I'm moving to a bigger space so won't have to be kicking boxes (hopefully!) 🤣 Thank you so much for watching and I appreciate the feedback <3
Great vid and great tips 👍
Thanks so much!
Thanks WILDR!
Thank YOU!
FWIW Gotta keep back straight on this if you can, don't be looking down at the dumbbell.
Thanks so much for the uploads. I have been using to rebuild my strength after taking the last three seasons. As I haven’t gone through all your media yet. Do you have stretching exercises as well?
thanks so much for following along! Yes, I have SO many :) I have most of them listed in this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLOMgHoLbpyHyna-kIk5rWYqTW8fMwtfVO.html
Brilliant
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for making these
Thank you for watching!
I just found you! Great video! I use Elans and ski everything with them. I’m 120 lbs too. I ski at a Taos Ski Valley.
Really nobody Gona think "Athletic Bend " while hiking
sorry, I don't understand what you are saying, can you clarify?
Enjoying the views is the best!
I agree!
Best all mountain ski? 🤔 Atomic Maverick (men's version) and Maven (women's version)... Three reasons why... 1. Extra tip rocker for powder/off piste skiing and limited tail rocker for carving on piste... 2. Plenty of camber for power and recoil... 3. Comes in choice of all wood, wood+carbon and wood+titanal cores What I am looking forward to? 🤔 1. Once again, teaching people to learn to ski or improve their existing ski technique 2. Finding out how much my off season training with Yoga/Plyometrics will pay off... 3. Of course, all the "apres" ski activities Just waiting for the white stuff to arrive on the east coast....
I need to check out the mavens! I had the centuries and LOVED THEM (skied them till they delaminated on tips and tails!)
Please do this on a weekly basis. Really enjoyed it. Thanks.
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it. :)
@ As for skis, Salomon QST 98 are my daily driver. They are fun and playful. BTW. I’m an intermediate skier that sticks to blues and ski an occasional black.
I believe that all serious alpine skiers and instructors should be able to Tele ! The first day on tele skis will definitely point out your physical and mechanical weaknesses on snow ! I just laughed at myself the 1st day !!! ( my history: 69 years alpine; former NHIAA NH State champ, and monadnock regional champ in 1968; 27 years as an Alpine Ski Instructor )
I switched to tele a few years ago and still can’t tele. Bah!
Interesting, I lived in the Monadnock Region from 1983 til 2014 when we moved to Coos County in NH. Still skiing, but now in the White Mountains. Good for you still being out there and enjoying the sport.
@@kenchester3072 Thank you, make those turns look good this Winter !
Oh man I am nervous but super excited to try it out this season!
@@wildrfitness You will have a lot of fun and enjoy the challenge. You're physical abilities will def shine through! It becomes a lot more dif in the bumps !!!
Fantastic!!
I'm glad you liked it!
Do you track your VO2 max? Is it important?
At age 74, my calculated Vo2 max is 49.64. My LVEF is 66, and my resting heart rate is between 45-50 bpm.
I should do a video on this, I have *maybe too much* to say about V02max and skiing!
@@wildrfitness What is your VO2 max ?
What about for non hiking and just living in hilly places where you are wearing office shoes or rain boots not hiking boots? 😂😂
that'll be tough!
Looks great! Maybe work on keeping your head up the same way we want to skiing🤔🤷♂️
I am keeping my spine neutral for my rfess but you can look farther up if you'd like :)
Thanks Alecia !
Thank you for all your support! <3
Hi Wildrfitness - what adjustable ankle board is this?
My husband actually built me this! But, I've seen a few adjustable slant boards online that work the same :)
@@wildrfitness ok cool. I’ll give it a go and see how it turns out. Thanks
Hi Alecia, thanks for your videos! Interested to hear how you add lentils to your lunches when hiking? I do multiday hiking, so considering the weight i have to carry is important. I'm also plant based and struggle taking enough protein when out. I might try taking protein powder with me next time
Hi Nadine! Okay so if you are wanting to carry the lentils dry then you can cold soak (google it, it takes a few hours for them to be ready), but I would do the red ones that take far less time to become hydrated. I've taken them for lunch precooked just in a tupperware with spices and vegies in them, so yummy! Protein powder is great too just make sure to rinse your bottle well after (I will fill it up with water again and then drink the water again to get all the protein).
@@wildrfitness Thanks for your reply and tip about cold soaking! Will try out at home
How do you lace them
I haven't made the video yet but will post on here when i do :)
When you going downhill, you have to use a certain gate. When you're walking. You use heel toe heel toe heel actually is your break
Love watching you ski !! Thanks for sharing . . .
Genuinely working out 6 days a week currently for a one week ski sesh in January 😂 Age is no longer on my side, putting ski boots on in the morning is a struggle in itself let alone 8 hours on the slopes 🙈
A one week trip is AMAZING! Keep up the work 💪
Yes heavy squats, glutes, abs, training 5-6 days a week all muscle groups
Love how you've incorporated the core! So important in skiing
@@wildrfitness where you ski at?
@@Marksnow111 mostly at Castle Mountain Resort but we also get out to Whistler and Lake Louise too!
@@wildrfitness Canadian 👀
@@Marksnow111 haha you got it!
I've already switched to walking to and from work (instead of bussing) to get the old quads primed! :)
With a chest strap and a phone, I'll need to constantly taking my phone out... any suggestion?
a watch OR an app that alerts you if you are out of the prescribed zone would work :)
The video is well-made and informative. However, I suggest that you speak more slowly when demonstrating the exercises so that viewers can follow along more easily. Additionally, it would be helpful if you could keep the camera rolling for a few more seconds on each demonstration so that viewers have time to process the information.
Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm always looking to improve so folks can get the most out of them. :)
Dudes just slow
Excited to work on these. Will be coming back from last year off due to an achilles tear and picking up my adult house league racing where I left off. Entering the 66-70 age bracket this year!
That is amazing! What a cool league to be a part of
Love those carved turns on the hill !!
Can't wait to make them on the hill again soon!
@@wildrfitness your fitness level really shines thru on the hill. You absolutely dominate the hill on skiis . . . no joke !
A good simple exercise to add to my training routine. Thank you !
Sounds like the wrist band is actually measuring pulse which can be entirely different than heart rate depending on the person's fitness and other health factors.
yes the chest strap measures electrical signals and the wrist measures pulses of bloodflow :)
I’m 79 and can stand one legged on a bosu ball for 2 minutes. At 71 I could do 3 sets of one legged squats on a bosu ball so, yes, I am losing it.
That's amazing!!
