Why Kendrick's GNX is a Masterpiece
This past Friday, Kendrick Lamar surprised dropped a new album titled GNX, and completely uprooted the music world.
Kendrick has been on a legendary run this year complete with singles, music videos, a successful beef with the biggest rapper on the planet (Drake), the announcement that he will headline the next Superbowl, etc., so it feels only natural the 2024 would see a new Kendrick drop.
But the record isn't some run-of-the-mill Kendrick project, if such a think even exists, it's a smart, experimental, and wholly original body of work from quite possibly the greatest rapper of all time.
Even with GNX being so new, I wanted to come on here and dive into the album, my theories about the record's concept, the meanings behind specific tracks, and some predictions about where Kendrick goes next.
If any of that sounds interesting to you, I hope you'll enjoy this (mostly) unscripted video essay on the record. Look forward to more Kendrick videos soon!

When The Rollout Is Better Than The Album (Eternal Atake 2)
Переглядів 2,4 тис.2 місяці тому
On Halloween, Lil Uzi Vert released their newest album: Eternal Atake 2. A sequel to Eternal Atake from 2020, the record was one Uzi hyped up extensively, with a massive marketing campaign and multiple teasers. But, having heard the album, it's hard to say it lived up to the hype. Today, I'm talking about Eternal Atake 2, why it fell short for me, and what I think Uzi can do differently in the ...

The Beef Is Done, But Kendrick Isn’t

Releasing this video off the usual schedule so I can speak on the new Kendrick track from last week! This one is titled "Watch The Party Die" or "Black Forces" or "Dear God", idk man, maybe we'll never know the true title. But this is Kendrick's first new musical release since "Not Like Us" and the entirety of his beef with Drake, and it contains some really interesting lyrics when thinking abo...

After a month hiatus, I'm back with what might be my best video yet, a return to the Kendrick Lamar beef cycle of 2024 with special attention paid to what I might now think is his best diss track: "Not Like Us". This one was a real labor of love. I did multiple outfits and camera set ups for this video, and generally just altered my usual format into something more ambitious. I hope y'all appre...

I don't think NOPE was just about blacksploitation. I think you might see that at first, because YOU are used to seeing black people as spectacles....and THAT is how Jordan Peele gets you to see YOUR OWN bias towards spectacle. And then once you realize your bias towards spectacle, it should horrify you. That is just one genius layer of this film.

i understand your initial reaction to the song , im not here to say debate whether the song itself is good or not. But as far as planting the daughter info goes , if kendrick is using old 7 year old twitter comments made by other people for his punchlines and quotables ( a-minor / o v hoe / wop wop wop ) . what makes people believe kendrick couldnt've also been fed the daughter info from 7 years ago before the battle even happened. the fake daughter is said to been 7 or 11 years old kendrick is supposed to have pre recorded diss tracks from 4 to 7 years ago. even the ebonykprince fake fed stuff fake evidence in the meet the grahams song photo. drake saying he would have been caught meaning he would have been caught due to mandatory plane inspections with his 767 mega plane landing anywhere outside of canada if a warrant is issued . also could mean drake flys around suspicously and frantically alottt more than kendrick flys around gets around drake puts on more air miles than kendrick does. drake is also said to be working with the country canada and america with the "ministry of defense". something rkelly / diddy / jayz / epstien has never done in their life. putting drake in a completely different league and altitude. also just because you get arrested doesnt mean you'll go straight to jail and stay in jail . most of those other sex offenders like rkely diddy epstien werent simply middle class income low class income offenders. they were first human traffickers violating geneva-convention 1stly , 2ndly they were sex offenders as far as the law is concerened 2ndly. most likely assuming a human trafficking ring investigators will prioritize the human trafficking rico case more . than they'd prioritize a slow non developing sex offender case beit in the workplace or in the home with child protective services get involved or out at some bar or diddy party kickbacks .

Oppenheimer was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. about halfway through the movie when they did a flashback WITHIN a flashback, i said 'NOPE!' And turned that shit off right then and there. I had had enough. What an absolutely terrible film.

I have this fascination with feminist theory, it always seem to give me more than other theories, maybe because being a man limits my perspective. Your video made one trope I keep seeing: the fight between 2 female best friends, into perspective. Just one more angel to have when I watch a movie. Thank

just watched this whole video as a 17 year old Gay teenage boy , and this movie understands leveraging your body , appearance , etc to feel powerful especially after experiencing sexual assault or even just finding that you’re valued off of that and can gain power from it . I’ve watched tons of video essays on Jennifer’s body and this has to be top 3.Didnt know about the graphic novel definitely will be saving up for it . thank you for this essay and i hope everyone who watched this can understand the true art of jennifer’s body more with it .

The only problem I have with people issues on Chris assault backstory in pt 3. Is that they use their knowledge of what's established in 4,6,7,8 FvsJ, and remake. To try and dismiss pt 3, but people forget that part 3 is literally the second film with adult Jason. At the time, in 1982 there wasn't much to his character yet. They were still forming and figuring out what they wanted the character to be. He wasn't completely established by pt 2, for people to say he's not capable of this or that.

I became aware of the film through a UA-cam video and had never heard of it before. I am absolutely thrilled by this intelligently made feminist film, which is also quite funny. Anyone who thinks the film is bad or mediocre has probably not understood it and also thinks ‘American Psycho’ is a splatter film and not an anti-capitalist satire.

I’m going to preface this comment by saying that the drake and Kendrick beef introduced me to major rap battles in general, so I am inexperienced in a lot of regards. That being said, I have watched A LOT of reactions to the whole beef, from people who mention beef with Jayz and Nas, as well as Eminem and Benzino. From all of their perspectives, I gathered that this beef is very unlike the rest in a lot of unprecedented regards. Out of all Kendrick’s songs from this beef, Meet the Grahams is my favorite, with 6:16 in L.A. being my second favorite. Both of these songs are atypical in a rap battles, for different reasons. Whereas Euphoria was a light “start off” diss, 6:16 in L. A. genuinely sounds like a olive branch on Kendrick’s part to Drake in hindsight; yes he has a few light disses, but the overall theme of the song is very warning heavy, telling drake to look at his own camp very carefully. Meet the Grahams, however, feels like a court hearing. You’re not meant to be comfortable, or to laugh at the accusations like other diss tracks. Kendrick wrote it with the express intention to unnerve the listener to the seriousness of what he dislikes about Drake. Another thing is the comments about Drake’s supposed daughter; regardless of whether he legit has one he knows of, his sexual habits make this accusation very easy to be true (which I think is Kendrick’s point in dedicating a whole verse to it). In my opinion, Meet the Grahams is lyrically and sonically the best depiction of what a legit rap battle should be; Cold, Ruthless, to the point, and made with the intention of warning others of the dangers of the person being described.
