Stilgar was much more badass in the books. He is a Naib, the strongest among his tribe and he means bussines. Although he believed in the prophecy, as ALL FREMEN did, he was still stoic, pragmatic and wise, not a religious zealot like in the movies. Chani and her group of feminist Power Puff girls openly ridiculing Stilgar, arguing with him and questioning his authority would NEVER HAPPEN. As a Naib, he would dispose of them instantly. "Arrakis teaches the attitude of a knife", a society founded on discipline honor and respect for authority. If you don't agree with the Naib you can challenge him for the right to rule, otherwise you obey his authority.

I wish that Wyrding Way had been able to translate to the screen. It's understandable, but the fighting choreography, while still good, looks like Wing Chun performed by better athletes. Just saying that the Fremen are tougher than Sardaukar doesn't do the Bene Geserit style justice. Paul and Jessica can move so fast (in bursts) that they nearly become invisible. They can harden their bone density and strengthen tendons and ligaments to strike with nearly superhuman strength. They train enough Fremen (who are otherworldy tough) to do this. I loved both Dune movies. They had to gloss over a LOT though unfortunately. I really missed the Wyrding Way, Thufir's story, and Chani...well. Her deviation from the book in Part 2 is stark. Making her a Redditor "haha your stupid skyfather" girlboss did the character a disservice. Chani in the book was loving, devoted, ferocious, smart, and realistic, and tragic. Human. I hope Messiah (or Part 3 whatever they call it) retcons back to her true arc.

I think this is the best adaption we could possibly ask for. It changes things yes, but they either improve the book or don’t make it worse. I still prefer the book but this was amazing.
