@@ieat10kittens94 in the books its explained just how fucked up Piter is. He was planning to torture Jessica, was in constant mind games and power dynamic struggle with the Baron himself. A lot of schemes and implications of his sadistic nature.
Apparently there are several deleted scenes involving the character, so I'd imagine a Director's Cut will be released at some point which include more of a focus on Piter de Vries.
the combine advisors were actually inspired by guild navigators from the 1984 Dune movie. but I agree, seeing the baron in a place of vulnerability is very similar to when Dog attacks one of the Advisors at the end of Episode Two. also Harkonnen soldiers in part 2 are very similar to the Combine soldiers, especially to the Cremators
When I compared this scene from the movie to the one from the book, I thought the one from the movie was much better. In the book, I felt like the Baron had survived for no reason. Everyone is dead around him, except him who was at the limit of the Duke's poisoned breath. Very disappointing for me. In the film, despite the shield, the Duke happens to blow his poison directly into the face of the Baron who only owes his survival to the fact that he moved away quickly enough. Like in the book, he survived while everyone in the room died. But we understand that he barely survived and, despite the fact that he survived, he is absolutely not in great shape. If his servants had waited another day, the Baron would clearly have succumbed to the poison. Really, when you compare the two scenes, even if the same thing happens there with the same "result", it's day and night. For me, the movie did a much better job.
I disagree. In the book he didn't even almost die. He was completely alright. Because he had his shield on. Why did he have it on? Because he *forgot* to turn it off. Which I just thought was funny.
I liked how the miniseries handled it. There, they have the duke still so wacked out on the drugs that he's hallucinating and doesn't notice that the baron doesn't come in for a closer look, piter does. So piter takes the whole blast to the face and the baron floats away with few ill effects.
The movie was better on terms of his character in this scene. He turns on the shield on purpose, even as his enemy lies dying, he makes sure theres no chance of anything happening. Justified paranoia for someone like the baron, who probably survived countless assassinations and ordered just as many.
No, in the book the Baron had his shield on but on the lowest level and Peter gasping in Leto's vicinity gave the Baron a warning to move away quickly, so he was hit by the poison but not enough to die

The Baron. I'm no expert in Dune, and I've too wondered why they tremble like that when they see him...
