People say 40k doesn't really have "good guys" per se, but the case could be made that Ogryns are. They're loyal and friendly but love a good scrap, treat them nice and they'll defend you to the end. Basically humans who evolved on really high gravity worlds and regressed in intelligence, but ended up being really tough and technically still humans, but labelled as abhumans. The Imperium doesn't treat mutants very well but they make a special case for Ogryns because of how useful they are. The "bright eyes" are unique to Cadians iirc, a number of them have a minor mutation that makes their eyes violet, caused by being so close to the Eye of Terror.

Btw, a quick clarification, what the Lamenter is experiencing is the Red thirst, not the Black rage. While his frenzy may initially seem like he succumbed to the black rage, but here are some signs that tells you it’s the blood thirst: - Bloody tears - descriptions focusing on his fangs - Retention of some of his consciousness as he can still talk and stay still for a period of time - and most glaringly of all: THE CANNIBALISM As for twentytwohya: - The red thirst is a gene flaw that was already in the blood angel’s legion long before they met Sanguinius, and will only happen temporarily. This gene flaw was mitigated after meeting Sanguinius and being in his Primarch presence (mostly). This all ended, of course, after his death and the flaw started to show up again. - The Black Rage started almost exactly the moment Sanguinis died, and this is a PERMANENT state (except for a very few key Blood Angel individuals). Unlike the red thirst, the main sign is their uncontrollable rage and desire to kill every thing around them as the blood angel sees them as Horus. There’s also no way to reason with as their consciousness is probably gone by that point (kudos to the Death Company Chaplains because idek how they managed to keep their brothers in check xD). The thing I loved most about this is that it leaves room for the explanation that he really did see God. When he saw the emperor he didn’t see the same being he saw the first time. And when he regains his senses he is able to tell the difference. Which is why he maintains his belief in God after the emperor shows him another way. And he would rather die for God Than live in the darkness he knows is coming. And then as the emperor walks away. The clock chimes, signaling the last great calamity. The coming of the emperor. The beginning of the end of mankind.
