The night lord from the intro was busying himself and his warband "playing" with loyal citizens of the Imperium of man, quite literally dismembering a human being and destroying his home all the while he was still alive to see and feel. It's commonplace for space marines to take a stance of superiority over normal humans, something the traitors take to... an extreme.
@@QuayNemSorr I get you. It’s odd how he just sort of disappeared from the lore after having such rich character development. It would be cool to see him return in some way.
The Night Lords are a legion originating from the world of Nostromo. The planet, rich in mining facilities that produced adamantium, was also one of the most crime-riddled and corrupt planets in pre-imperial space. It was so bad that, as Bricky put it, "the only thing keeping the populace in check was the suicide rate." Whenever a primarch takes over the world he had been warp whisked away to, the best and brightest. When Konrad Kurze, the "Night Haunter" took control of Nostromo, he did so by being so bloody and sadistic, that he terrified the populace of Nostromo into submission. Up until the emperor arrived on Nostromo, it remained that everyone on the planet was too afraid to step up. All of that changed when the emperor arrived on Nostromo and took Kurze from the planet. As such, when Nostromo delivered space marine initiates for the Night Lords, these were criminals, psychopaths, and the absolute WORST of Nostromo's planetary population. Many of them killers before their teenage years.
My favorite legion! When they did serve the emperor during the Great Crusades, their methods resulted in the LEAST loss of life when conquering worlds. Rather than waging war, bombing planets into compliance…they had their “fun” with the leaders of a planet and asked the rest of the population “Do you want to be next?” And they all chose compliance. No damage to infrastructure, no unneeded loss of life. When they turned traitor, the majority of them rejected serving chaos, viewing the chaos gods as tools. As a result, their geneseed remained the purest. They have loyalist successors tho, The Space Sharks use their uncorrupted geneseed I hope you get the chance to lean about Talos Soul Hunter, he is a gigachad of a nightlord and one of the handful of nightlords with morality
Night Lords were completely banana-balls out to lunch loony when they were recruited, it's part of WHY they were recruited. sometimes you gotta send a maniac to catch a maniac.

OHHH, I JUST FOUND YOUR CHANNEL, RECOMMENDED BALDERMORT AND YET HERE WE HAVE THE BLESSED ADEPTUS CURATOR ;-; I now weep tears of joyous faith in the God-Emperor (and hyperbole), this is magnificent. Baldie got so into character for this I actually got scared listening to this video the first time through, and I can confidently say it is only one of two instances that has happened in my life x)
Plz listen to Amber King's video understanding Konrad Curze, only lore creator that really makes you feel for the primarchs and helps clarify their mental and emotional state, the part where Konrad makes an effigy of the Emperor out of body parts and speaks to him actually makes you sympathize with Curze, well in my opinion at least.
"...the only lore creator that really makes you feel for the Primarchs and helps clarify their mental and emotional state..." Those are the words of someone who NEEDS to watch "The Longest Second" by Baldermort.
If you want more Night Lords, The Dark King and The Prince of Crows in audio are amazing! Both take place during the Horus Heresy, the Dark King is before Prince of Crows. So much wonderful dialog. The legion was declared Traitorous Extremis during the Hours Heresy after the Istavaan V massacre. Along with the Iron Warriors and Word Bearers. Prior to Istavaan V, the Night Lords were... frowned upon for their methods. Whole worlds would surrender as soon as it was known the Night Lords were coming. If you listen to the audios I recommend above, you will know why.
I just realized the Night Lords are essentially Twitch streamers except instead of streaming on Twitch, they stream on LiveLeak ;-; Man that is AWFUL lol, thanks again for checking out Baldius Mortius :)
Not that these are good guys by any means, but after reading the Night Lords trilogy, they are my favorite legion by far. They are actually kind of based in a lot of ways. Their argument that torturing a few, to save a war and billions of lives is at least a reasonable claim. And of all the traitor legions, they despise chaos and the taint the most overall. Many of the slaves they capture don't mind as much as you might think because their conditions weren't really any better in the imperium and sometimes got better.
When a chaos legion is so utterly BAD that only the emperor's children surpasses their wickedness, you know it's bad. Also, yes. Konrad Kurze is 100% dead. Literally LET a callidus assassin sneak into his fortress and shank him. He even went so far as to tell his legionaries not to pursue the assassin as they fled. Didn't work, they chased her down like the animals they were, but still.
night lords are not loyalist not are they chaos legions, they are a renegade legion. They are indeed a traitor legion, during the Horus heresy they were involved in a battle allied with the word bearers and when they saw the word bearers transform from possession the night lords were disgusted and looked down on them. They are a traitor legion but not a chaos one, however there are small warbands of them that turn to chaos. They can be hired as mercenaries as well, but expect something terrible to occur. I recommend looking into Sevatar he's quite a character. The Amber King has a good vid on him and curz among other characters.
One time a Warband of Night Lords got their asses kicked by some unexpected loyalists Space Marines called the Carcharodon Astra/Space Sharks 🦈 The Space Sharks brutally slaughtered the Night Lords and the Space Sharks were literally silent while doing all this no yelling, no screaming, no talking just silent while killing their enemies, very much the same as real sharks when the kill their prey.
their Nobility constantly clashing with their savage nature makes them so interesting and the fact that they had a real reason to betray the imperium saves them from being annoyingly dumb plot points like some of the other Traitor Legions
No they are absolutely not loyalist. Also the ape things he’s talking about are humans he’s a space marine still so he considers himself above humanity as we consider ourselves above the common ape.
Love the reaction to it. Though, I laugh at the lords of terror in a way. Not because I dislike the night lords cause they are so freaking cool, just.....there is more terrible things done in this universe. The same group that made the lords of terror and night, afraid of the dark. The prophets of flesh were happy that day muhaha
While others say the Night Lords are the most Evil, I'd argue instead that they are the most humane and least bloodthirsty. (At least pre-heresy). Yes, they did very, very horrible things, but when you take into consideration the lives of a few dozen people to make an entire planet surrender from rebellion or war instead of having that war and millions or billions dying from it then their actions are far less evil than they look. I'd say the Night Lords did their job as was expected. If the Emperor and even the other Primarch's treated the Night Lords and Conrad with the due respect they deserved as the Peacekeepers of the Imperium, they'd have stayed loyal and sane. Their actions weren't pretty, but they got their job done in the most efficient and most humane manner they could. Justice isn't necessarily "doing the right thing" or about being upright. Sometimes the ones bringing justice have to do some horrible things to horrible people to make the rest of the horrible people be kept in line.
The Night Lord's butchered entire sectors for fun, they were the worst in the entire crusade together with the World Eaters, there was nothing humane about them.
The Nightlords are absolutely heretical. I would strongly recommend watching Arch's video on Konrad Kurze, I understand that you shouldn't do an actual video on it because you'd be attacked/harassed by the commies but he'll give you the the most in-depth, lore-accurate account of Konrad Kurze. He also did a what if video on how Kurze/Nightlords could have been a loyalist primarch/chapter which is a very interesting listen.
