At the end of WW2 there were some military buildings abandoned near the Stone Cross pub which some families moved into to live, my family was one of them, they were known locally as ''The Hutments'', little is known of them today but they are shown on our birth certificates as place of residence ''The Hutments''.

I think i commented on your last stone cross vid Phil and moaned about the parking situation there. People get their "food" from Greggs and then sit in their cars and vans for 20minutes eating it while using up valuable parking spaces. The opposition hairdressers used to be a Victoria Wines I believe and the off licence you pointed out used to be Sunners wine shop for many years. I think the One Stop shop used be Sneads ran by the two most miserable people I've ever come across, and was Sneads many years before ran by different people who sold everything and kept an amazing stock of cassette tapes, and yes Stone Cross is now takeaway city. The old cinema was a bingo hall for many years before it was demolished to build those strange looking flats. My Mom and Dad met at that pub that's now the Curry N Grill House. We tried it once but not been back. I used to use the Service and Supplies shop a lot but they just use the shop as a base now and I also used the electrical supplies shop opposite the new flats but it doesn't open so much now. I'll be there tomorrow to buy some fish from the fish monger who comes from Derby every week and parks on the pavement next to the Black Country Chip shop. Oh just one last moan Phil, you must have noticed the loud clanking sound of that drain every time a car drove over it. That would drive me mad if I lived near to it or even worked in one of the shops. I'd be onto the council or highways straight away. You did well to make this depressing shopping area look more interesting. Great vid mate.

There is also Thomas Barratt from Tipton. I had the honour of holding his VC once back in the very early 80's because I knew one of his relatives. As usual Phil you managed to extract some interesting information from an otherwise very uninteresting street but having said that, I just hate these new tacky rows of shops that are popping up everywhere now. But to have a further moan, after seeing the Hill Top supermarket it reminded me of a trend I'm seeing everywhere now where shops are building these permanent "lean to" structures on the pavement on the front of their shops as an extension and displaying and storing stock in them. Now as far as I'm aware, the shop owner or renter does not own or rent the land directly outside of their shop as it is actually a public foot path. I'm surprised the local councils don't come down hard on the shop owners. It's ok temporarily displaying a few fruit and veg outside of your shop such as they do in Union Street Wednesbury but I think this is a step too far to build these structures that are often built very shoddily so they are possibly unsafe and they look a mess. Of course, the star of the show was the lovely old caretakers house that looked really out of place next to those flimsy new builds. Oh and yes Luggs Ironmongers were brilliant. You could buy anything from a screw to a welding machine from there except for on a Saturday. I don't know why they closed although there is a Luggs tool shop online. You mentioned the lack of Butchers shops but after watching one of your vids last weekI think they've all moved to Bilston Market. There is now a Punjabi Butchers on Yew Tree estate just up the road from where we live. So the fireworks are still going strong round here and I've got me a couple of beers in and will be watching the election results deep into the night. I think the outcome is very important to us. Thanks for the walkabout Phil.
