A Walk With Phil
United Kingdom
Приєднався 8 жов 2011
Bringing you memories of West Bromwich through film and highlighting what's wrong with West Bromwich. I have lived in and around West Bromwich all my life so I am familiar with the ever changing face of this famous town. On this channel I post walk around video content which is mainly in my hometown of West Bromwich. I visit many areas of the town from its famous High Street to many of its estates and industries and also some of the more run down districts and streets. Sometimes I will venture a little further out than West Bromwich to film in some other nearby towns. To discover more simply subscribe and perhaps even let me know in the comments section of any areas around West Bromwich you would like me to visit.

WEST BROMWICH FLORENCE ROAD, I walk along the back streets from the upper part of the High Street that no one rarely visits anymore (although Cliff Richard did visit the Holy Trinity Church in 1969) unless it's the Red Leaf or walking to the WBA football Club. There was one tennis courts and a cricket pitch many years ago but they have long gone but the church is still standing.

Im Smethwick born and bred even though these days it's looking a little like the aftermath of a coup d'etat. Actually I think it just needs the business owners to invest back a little of the billions they have made over the years into upgrading the infrastructure as opposed to allowing it to decay so badly that council-tax payers end up having to pick up the bill. Thanks 4 the upload
Mike and Marie owned the chip shop
I will be filming the whole of Beacon view Road this week, if you've subscribed then you will be notified. Many thanks
Just had a 'nosey' on Rightmove, seems like a HMO ?? not a blade of grass to be seen 😢🥀🌻Thanks Phil' another interesting walk/chat.👍
I tend to agree, an HMO does seem the obvious, many thanks
Bull Street = Mr Price, the dentist. Not good memories! Sad to see a once thriving street looking so anonymous and run down.
Thanks for the reminder, I do vaguely remember a dentist down there
When are you going to be showing more houses with christmas lights
Thanks Daniel, they are all coming down the track, if you've subscribed then i'll keep ya posted
I must admit that when you mentioned the £650,000 price tag in West Bromwich I was a bit sceptical, but seeing the abstract swords motif on the gates and those subtle lions on the gate posts I realised that you get what you pay for
I would give them 65 quid f they are interested. What a mess.... Been watching the progress of this one and others over the last couple of years. Cowboys and Indians come to mind.
Hi Phil i was interested to see were all the old pubs were and all the big changes around that area of west Bromwich it was nice to see the Sun Garage is still there I'm sure they had some petrol pumps in the seventys next to the garage all the best Paul
Yes they did, Forgot to show the old petrol garage sign. Many thanks
When we were rockers we used to go to the old crown, had many a good night there
Great place was the old crown, the building is still there but the soul has gone. many thanks
I was a Biker in the seventys we liked a pub called the cabin on Friar Park all the best Paul
It'll make more money as an HMO for professionals. Good location for the gym, shops and transport.
Good call MrL, its a possibility
Sandwell rd was the entrance to the council yard . Joinery. Upvc major building works gas and plumbing and the stores there was no rd on the side just the council yards . Where the WBBS is now was the Dunhill buildings part of the council yard 😊 I spent 25 yrs in the place 😊😊
Thanks TPC, I wouldnt remember the set up prior to 1970, but old maps do show a very, very different area to what we have now. Many thanks for that
I think if I was going to spend 650K on a house, I would buy one somewhere else in a bit of countryside. Although this house seems to have it all going on inside, it's not on a very big plot so I couldn't see an investor buying it. It's interesting that you can buy a house in Tywyn Southern Gwynedd right next to the sea (a place we visit often) quite a bit cheaper than you could in Bilston or Tipton. There's a trend where we live near Walsall for families to buy up small houses or bungalows then partly demolish them keeping some walls intact so as to keep to agreed planning permission and building regs and then turn them into massive 5 or 6 bedroom houses. There's one such house on the edge of our estate that used to be a lovely little 2 bed bungalow, it's now a massive 6 bed house painted white.I don't think planning permission should have been given as it's just a blight on the landscape. Great vid mate, you keep finding these streets that I've forgotten about or never knew of, thanks Phil.
Appreciate that TS, maybe its the 5 bathrooms that would swing it for a potential buyer!!! It does seem a very inflated asking price for the location, although the area does have some of the finest barbers in the Black Country, which may also be a good selling factor
@@awalkwithphil That could be a game changer for me Phil if I wasn't bald.
£650k for West Brom? 😂😂🤣🤣 best of luck with that.
Same here Alex
Good Luck To Them selling that, Not exactly in a nice area
True that
Lots of bathrooms lol..I wouldn’t buy a house in a location like that, not for me but others may not mind. Shame we can’t see the facade. 😊
How many bathrooms does one need??
Another good one Phil, just reminded me I lived in Bratt street for about 6 months in about 87. I'd forgotten all about it because I moved around a fair bit. I'd gone from Wednesbury to Bilston to Wednesbury then Bratt street then back to Wednesbury before I moved away from the area.
Ive done a bit of time in Wednesbury myself Pete, I'll be taking another visit there very soon. Many thanks
I get the convenience factor but location way too busy for a house of that price in my opinion!
I don't think it even has a garden, just a yard to relax in whilst listening to the cars, vans and lorries
I remember the murder video looking forward to the update
Me too 😉
I think it was the first Phil vid i saw.

The lady in the black coat, putting bread rolls back without using the pickers available, Oh my days 😝 we never buy anything from those kind of servers, as we fell foul of that kind of behaviour once.
Thanks Julie, I see a lot of that when I visit LIDL and ALDI.
No notification. 😩 The YT algorithm must deem you controversial. ..... Crazy!
You must be right Rob. Routinely visit my home page its the least I can suggest at the moment. Many thanks for the update
Coming soon...Phil visits a paper shop in Rowley Regis😊
😃
Interesting fact about the highest point in West Bromwich, very interesting 😊ALSO Sela /Ales.
Thanks

Next week carrington road friar park wednesbury WS100JL they say its not christmas till my lights go on 47.
Also noticed the 'Piss Palace' too..🙄🤪
😆
We lived next to a house like that,it got so bad it's started to effect my wife's dialysis machine
It's true that, I often wonder what the neighbours feel about an enormous light festival right next door. It may not be technically noisy but what about all this EMF frequency around? Thanks HF
Filled me van up at that Shell garage yesterday lol
Ya just missed me Dave, 😃
@@awalkwithphil haha it sure looks that way🤣🤣🤣
My sister lived in Beeches road early to mid 80s in a top floor flat, the rent was really cheap because the building was condemned. The roof fell in but luckily her and her boyfriend were out at the time. Came home to a roof in the living room 😂
This is not the first time ive heard this kind of thing happen in West Brom Pete, it seems West Brom has its fair share of dodgy landlords. Many thanks
😮
You have done it again Phil, all of the walk you did there is part of the route I do road walking one of my dogs to condition his paws and leg muscles ready for the biggest dog show in the world in March ! We walk from Greets Green Rd up to Bull St ,then all down the High St, then down Phoenix St and back up Greets Green Rd.
That's a good long walk BW Im sure I'll bump into ya one of these cold evenings, many thanks
Some spectacular light displays there Phil. There's a high cost in money and risk in putting up these displays. I spent much of my working life up ladders and see guys every year looking shakily very uncomfortable balancing on top of ladders (probably for the first time) putting up their lights. There's usually a spectacular display on one of the houses on Walstead Rd West just past the walsall football ground. I've not seen it this year so far but they decorate front and back and take charity donations for a walk around. Now come on Phil, if there are any photos of that perm, we would love to see them ha ha.
Sadly the perm was not a success so no photos exist 😃 it also makes you wonder how some of these folks manage to pay the electricity bill to run those lights??
Love the Xmas night, walk-alongs. 👍🏼
Thanks for the support Rob
That was me on the scooter 😂😂😂
Thanks HC shame we didn't speak, at least you're a star now 😃
Hi Phil we have been watching your videos for the last couple of months, we find them interesting and at times amusing. We understand that Bilston open market is moving to allow for the current site to be renovated any chance you could visit the new site and show us neighbours in Birmingham where it is?😊
Thanks SL, thanks for the heads up and yes I will head up there at some point before the year is out,
The boat place used to be just past George salters where that new house is,we could look down into the yard when we were walking round the side of the school,I think there was a shop on the front that sold gas and stuff
Much appreciated DJ I knew it was around there somewhere at least I now know, many thanks
Great video Phil as always lots of interesting information, back in the day stokes opticians used to be a butchers and a few doors past there was a chip shop I forget the name but it had a big red led fish in the front window, where the ymca car park is used to be a building that had squash courts in there,a select few of us had our p.e lessons in there,I think it belonged to the ymca, keep up the good work
Again some great info, many thanks
