Where you stood pointing to The Beehive pub on the corner of Charles St there was a barbers shop and a house by the bus stop, they eventually stood on their own when all the terraced houses were knocked down. The barbers name was Jack Bowen, he had a brother who was a sign writer who had a shop in Carters Green just past Guests Motors car park.

Thanks Phil amazing how it’s changed, I used to work in the Phoenix site till 2015 then they went bust. There’s terraces houses still on elwell street, my aunt lived there till she passed a couple of years ago, her daughter ( my cousin )still lives there.
Hi Phil as you walked up Richmond Street at the top end you would cross a Railway bridge and a cannal bridge next to my Dads pub the Beehive on Brickhouse Lane there was stables at the back of the pub for the cannal that that used to run past the Pub and I remember what we called the bottom Beehive on the corner of Charles Street and Phil you joged my memory of the names of Richmond St and Charles Street all the best Paul
Hi Phil if you walked back from the Beehive on Brickhouse Lane you would cross the cannal bridge next to the top Beehive and then cross the Railway bridge at the top of Richmond Street you would turn right on Brickhouse Lane this went down the back of the Wellington Tube towards Great Bridge high street at the bottom on the right there was some 1950s style office's and on the same side was Hollowoods Metal Fabrications and next to Hollowoods was the cannal and at the end I think was Loyds Bank on the high street and I worked at Hollowoods and my dad was the landlord of the top Beehive for 2 years I hope this helps you with future videos Phil all the best Paul
Georges chip shop been there for years, many years ago you could get that old fashioned dish tripe & onions from there my father ate it didn't fancy it myself, by Ashmore Properties there used to be Taylors scrapyard specialising in aluminium i saw an aeroplane being scrapped there in the 70s, sometimes you had the most awful smell by the gas works when it was still operating years ago, and the canal used to turn strange colours when the Phoeninx works was there.
I walked past the gas works every day when i worked at phoenix steel tube I also played darts at the three crowns and swan pubs at dinner time and golden cup I helped build a barge on that canal for the chief engineer of the tube in about 1974 the cladded factories were phoenix number 2 works I drove the 74 past there in later years
Hopefully someone will confirm if I have sited the Wellington Inn correctly? I was given an address for this pub as 101 Great Bridge Street which would site it where I have, more or less, pointed out. However further research suggests it was on the corner of Ryder Street which has now muddied the waters a little. Also the Kings Arms was along Great Bridge Street but I am guessing as to where this pub would have been.
When did we become a Birmingham postcode Phil ? When I was a babby it was driven into me that I lived on St Peters Close, Great Bridge, Tipton , Staffordshire ! One of our neighbours used to drive a lorry for Wellington Tube.
Not sure BW how post codes and boundaries were messed around with. Great Bridge always had a West Brom side just next to the River Tame bridge in Great Bridge, but its all Tipton now - but I like to refer to this area has West Brom when it suits. A lot of changes also occurred in 1974 when we all merged into Sandwell. Prior to this West Brom had a few changes from being a borough, county Borough and Corporation.
