Thunder Roll and Firewheel kinda get a bad rap - they're actually incredibly good as attacking moves. They start instantly, have short animations, can hit multiple times, have no endlag to speak of, and can link from or into many other actions.     Esports when? Joke aside, great play. Reminded me of beating mysterious figure for the first time (was low level) I did spam thunder surges, but I was just extremely aggressive and interrupted him all the time even without them. Thunder surges alone cannot win this fight, gotta interrupt for a quick victory, otherwise you make a mistake in a long stretch and die.

    2:40 Ventus's exclusive second-hit mechanic on Sliding Dash/Sliding Dash-adjacent commands is the main reason the rest of the fight went so smoothly. It frame-trapped MF during his timestop revenge and prevented him from doing another attack before you could punish him. I completely overlooked this when I first watched this video months ago, but to be completely fair, Ventus hitting twice with Sliding Dash-type commands because he wields his keyblade backhanded is a commonly overlooked mechanic that's easy to forget about even if you know it exists because it's rarely useful in practice.

      Indeed lol. On top of that quirk was a bit of luck for it to matter in the first place; MF is super armored at the start of tornado (...I think) and the spinning kick is invulnerable, so he needed to specifically use X-Slash as his time stop followup there. Though are you sure about multi-hit Sliding Dash being a Ven thing? I'm not in a position to check or test right now, but I swear I've noted it for all characters.

      @@oscuritaforze To my recollection Ventus is the only character in the game that will hit twice with Sliding Dash and Fire Dash. Aqua and Terra only hit once with them. I believe this also means that Ventus actually has the highest damage ceiling for those two commands because the most amount of damage you can do in this game without Elemental Boosts or critical hits being applied on top of the base floor is 25, so with enough Strength Ventus is effectively doing 50 damage per Sliding Dash/Fire Dash as a bare minimum if both hits connect, whereas the other two would be limited to only 25 damage per Sliding Dash/Fire Dash as a minimum floor.

    Coming back to rewatch this, I never noticed that MF actually cast Vanish in midair at around 2:17. This boss has really weird yet strangely fascinating and interesting mechanics. Edit: 3:13 What on Earth happened to that last Megaflare?

      Midair Vanish was, I think, a result of his warp defense resetting him to his neutral behavior while only moving him horizontally. It's rare for it to happen in any noticable fashion without using an air-tossing command, but it might also be possible if you attack him during Sonic Blade? At any rate, it's a pretty weird edge case which leads to some even weirder interactions - I don't remember if I've caught it on video, but he can use Collision Magnet in this manner and jump _above_ the upper bound of the arena in the process. (If this happens, the actual damaging part of the attack will miss.) As for the Megaflare, that's one of my favorite discoveries about the fight!...though I don't think I've directly mentioned it before. MF's version is targeted directly at your position rather than firing straight ahead, and it will *never* explode unless it collides with something. Combine those points, and you can make his Megaflares shoot harmlessly into space by jumping enough in the right places.

      irrc its a quirk of boss fight programming carried over from 2 (not sure if its still there by 3, i think it was still around in DDD at least) most boss fights they put a damage cap per hit, so single hit stuff (ie. most screen nukes like megaflare or meteor) will deal a lot less damage than they actually can

      ​@@zaqareemalcolm KH 2 doesn't have damage caps, it has stat caps. Your stats don't matter past a certain point, but abilities that boost your damage like combo boost and elemental boosts will still make you deal more damage. BBS has hard damage caps, it's either 20 or 25 (I forgor which), and elemental/combo finish boosts DON'T boost that. Resistances are also taken into account after the damage cap, which is why VLS has a low damage cap. The cool thing though is that the boost from Critical Hits that happen with physicals are don't AFTER the damage cap, and considering how in FM Royal Radiance is the only Keyblade with a x2 damage boost on crits, you can go crazy if you're hitting the damage cap! DDD and KH 3 don't have hard damage caps, instead, any excess damage past a certain point (depends on the boss, in DDD it's usually 20 for bosses with few exceptions, and in KH 3 it's the "Damage Limit" under a boss' stat page on the wiki) will get halved instead For example, if the damage limit is 20, and you'd normally deal 40 damage, you'll end up dealing 30 instead (20 excess, halve it to get 10 +20). If you deal 80, you'll deal 50 instead (excess is 60, halve it to get 30 +20). Basically, single hard hitting attacks like Sacrifice, Mega Flare, and Trinity Limit are bad against bosses in BBS, but in DDD they're still good.

      I tried going into Dark Impulse directly a few times and found that completely filling the command gauge was a surprisingly common problem. No matter whether it results in another style change or a finish command, it breaks your combo all the same. Using extra ice cream to make it a level 2 style and then letting the gauge partially drain before attacking solves that issue, though it does make the first part of the fight pretty dicey lol.

Using an ice cream while already in its corresponding style just immediately gets you its finish command, unless you used other commands that would get you into another style. ...which I suppose probably actually means "yes, but I'd need to use a couple of dark commands somewhere", and I don't think I could fit Dark Firaga/Dark Haze/Chaos Blade in the combo lol.

      PSP original is slightly harder than HD, if anything. Putting aside the couple of really powerful new additions, there were also (I suspect) bugfixes to the physics engine of the game which resulted in several attacks across the game becoming less lethal. Most notably, MF's Collision Magnet and Sonic Blade are a lot less likely to ruin your day like they could on PSP.

    It's a shame that Trinity Limit deals such pitiful damage for its 3 slot cost, as it's actually extremely safe by screen-nuke ultimate command standards. You're invincible for the whole casting animation and can act the moment it ends meaning you can't get frametrapped unlike with moves like Meteor or Mega Flare.

      It's a weird balance - Trinity Limit's the least safe arena limit command in terms of duration, approximately equal to Voltage Stack in terms of startup (possibly slightly better/worse? Haven't really tested), and the most safe in terms of endlag...yet it ends up the worst overall due to (as you said) its underwhelming damage [EDIT: vs. bosses, at least]. The curse of not being a multihit attack, I suppose.

      Trinity limit is supposed to be use in multiplayer (like most of the 3 slots commands) is not that effective when you use it alone cuz slow recharge and 3 slots required, but it gives you a long time of invincibility

    I've always been told, and also by my experience, MF is a broken boss (in the literal meaning of the word 'cause his "bad" programming). Super hard compared to all other bosses in the franchise, even the well programmed ones. Although, seeing you making a lot of videos beating him, in such different and interesting ways - Vanitas' remnant included - makes me think: "this person must be some kind of a master!!" Well done mate. Quite stupendously to see all these fights.

      @@CaptainRomulusSlag2 Honestly, there's no real strategy to be had with MF. There are strategies you can try to use, but it's like a card game: 30% skill, 70% luck.

      Unfortunately, lasers with this setup are pretty much just a reset - if not necessarily for the survival part, then at least for my aim being "no damage" here :P.

      Assuming you mean full comboing him? Probably not reasonable at all lol - the command gauge margins are pretty narrow even at the damage cap with a high crit, 1.5x multiplier weapon. That, and the longer the fight goes the more likely something insurmountable will come up, especially since level 1 has an additional worry in having no way to deal with clones outside of waiting them out (or so I understand).

      @@oscuritaforze More meant just doing the fight with this method, not necessarily a full combo. Also the main thing is *surges* can’t one-hit the clones, I haven’t seen people check that there’s *no* commands that can.

      Nah, the cooldown difference (2 - 2.5 seconds at max magic hastes, depending on rounding) is pretty negligible when compared to the duration difference, extra AoE, and (though not important at level 99) extra damage.
