    First of all, your opening "type one" was PEAK classic cosmic horror. Fantastic. Second, I love type two specifically because it's reminiscent of SCP, which is one of my favorite IPs. Third, the transition is a great illustration of the banality of suffering: initially the individual or society would lose their shit. Given enough time, it would just be another learning curve to abuse.

    Hard Sci Fi isn't focused on storytelling. It's focused on exploring an idea. That's why the only Hard Sci Fi story I ever enjoyed is Arrival, since the idea being explored is communication, which is fundamentally what storytelling IS.

    • @myhandle365
      @myhandle365 2 дні тому

      This is why I can't consider The Martian as HARD sci fi. It's equal parts storytelling and exploring an idea. That's also why Hard Sci Fi isn't mainsteam. While sure, some of it's fans are gonna be pretentious, it's not inherently pretentious to point out that there's a significant divide between themselves and the majority. It's not about levels of intelligence. It's about what you enjoy. And Hard Sci Fi is defined by it's less accessable nature due to being less focused on storytelling (send the majority of folk want a focus on storytelling).
