Lord Trout on a Mayfly in the River Derwent (County Durham)
Rod on Ebay: ebay.us/eZcHS4
A = 2.1m (7'), B = 2.4m (8'), C = 2.7m (9'), D = 3.0m (10')
Rod on Amazon: geni.us/ArDzbGR
Catching a few fish (including a Lord Trout) on my local river with my 7' (2.1m) back-up fly rod.
At the time of this video upload the rod is cheaper on Amazon (has 30% off).
The telescopic fishing rod is not an easy rod to use since the stiffness of it is quite unforgiving and it is harder to 'feel' through the rod what the fly line is doing.
Consequently there are a few negative reviews on Amazon. However, if you accept that it has a fast action (as described) and use it accordingly with a faster than normal casting motion it will handle fine and catch fish (as demonstrated in this video).
Thanks for watching and best of luck when you're next out fishing.
(apologies for the mild swearing when I hooked the Lord Trout)

    The mulch scared me...it could be catch afire from heating up after concentrated reflections of light ...i think it safer if u remove the mulch ...

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare 4 дні тому

      Thanks for the clear explanation of your concerns. A previous comment mentioned the mulch but offered nothing in the way of an explanation - that comment just said "Bro ditch the mulch. U gna melt em xD". Reflected light is very different from concentrated light and since the light being reflected is not concentrated it is no more dangerous than the sunlight it is reflecting. If I'd had concave mirrors focusing a beam onto the panels then it would definitely be a fire risk if that beam was moved to concentrate on anything flammable but in this case I'm simply reflecting light, not concentrating it. However, I previously considered installing convex mirrors to spread the sunlight further than a simple straight reflection but those mirrors are very expensive compared to what I've used. If I ever come into disposable money I'll invest in some of the convex mirrors to spread the sunlight further and although it will weaken the intensity per area it will spread it over more panels than a simple reflected light. I hope that makes sense.

    Looks unpractical. The grip is unstable and you can easily miss a wind. Wouldn't use this in cold weather and with heavier spinners. I would prefer a tube - like hobo system.

      Yes, the missing while winding is the main issue with this one and if it was only an inch bigger it would make all the difference. It would allow for much more gear to be stored in it too. It's a shame that Exotac have't released an XL version as it makes sense to do so.

    Trim the hackle under the wing it will stop the fly spinning 😊tight lines

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare 12 днів тому

      I sometimes cut the lower part of the hackle to ensure that the winged flies sit straight on the water but they still spin, lol Cutting the wings down helps a bit on the big mayfly patterns but every cast twists the line a little. Outside of using the big mayflies the other dry flies I use have wings the same height as the hackle and they cast no problem - often I find that using a decent size grey wulff (especially in fast moving water) will work as well as a mayfly and definitely casts better.

      It sounds like you have a couple of good rifles there and to win a night vision scope is awesome. The HW97K is one of the models I was looking at when deciding whether to sell my FAC FX Indy air rifle in favor of a springer but since the money I'd get back for the FAC air rifle would be negligible I decided against the plan. However, in any sort of SHTF situation a springer will be worth it's weight in gold. I'm well and spending most of my spare time in the garden - it would be good to meet up again at some point and if you're ever unfortunate enough to head up to the grim North feel free to call in with your massive truck any time brother.

    Looking lovely, I hope you like tomatoes! I guess you’ve done this before otherwise I’d be mentioning the dangers of blight 👍

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare 15 днів тому

      Yes, I love tomatoes. As I work from home and have plenty of time for cooking we're having a Spanish style sauce (tomatoes, garlic, onions, oregano) with roast chicken and parsley mash tonight. It is awesome to get some of the ingredients from the garden. We're following that meal with a fruit medley of wild strawberries, alpine strawberries, loganberries and blackberries in creme fraiche. Yup, I had to look up how to spell 'fraiche', lol With regard to pests in the garden and greenhouse apart from a couple of outdoor cabbages which have had some snail / slug damage I have NO pests, not one and I don't have to use pesticides anywhere. I grow all my lettuce in hydroponic towers and they're also pest free and I'm growing them all year with no problems at all - no need for nets or any protection. In the greenhouse I'd usually be fighting against aphids / whitefly with neem oil but there's not a single leaf with a pest on. The only thing I'm doing differently from previous years is planting a few marigolds in the greenhouse and a few of the pots with tomatoes in have coils of copper wire in them (electroculture). The outdoor garden has lots of stakes with copper wire wrapped around them and I'm beginning to think that has made a difference since my father's garden (a stones throw away) is blighted by caterpillars, slugs and snails and his pepper plants are infested with whitefly - I've got none of that and all my plants are huge, producing harvest even before many people down South. The conclusion I've reached is that since the electroculture produces such a tiny micro-current in the soil it must take a while for the area to become fully protected (and plants enhanced). I should really do a video on this since it's working extremely well for me and I have been growing all sorts of crops with no problems since the electroculture rods were installed - it is a very old technology from the 1700's which produced some crazy results in France in the late 1800's and early 1900's (the unbelievable pictures of massive crops are online) but the method is much older than that and unfortunately is derided by people who don't give it time to work (e.g. 'Epic Gardening' on UA-cam) and class it as 'pseudo-science'. They couldn't be more wrong.

    Solar concentrators. I don’t know why a better solution hasn’t… ahhh! That explains it. The Google in my brain tells me, it would be cheaper, and the greed of companies to keep pushing higher efficient panels etc is at its core. For the love of money is the root of all evil. Let us build our own cost effective solar concentrators and build them and sell them, we can make a fortune, by making them only slightly effective. Bwahahahah 💴 ♥️ (and that … is the problem)

    • @ThousandYardStare

      100% - money is not the problem since we have always traded with something of value until recently (fiat currency is backed by nothing) and now that we're on the verge of a digital prison with CBDC it is even more important to wake up and see the economic slave system for what it is. The love of money has ruined so many souls and I just see it as something which can be converted into infrastructure projects of real value.

If UA-cam is now what it was 10 years ago I'd have spent money on a new camera straight away but it's not worth it now since no matter how much effort I put into making a video on either channel they sink without a trace and only a tiny percentage of the subscribers get any new upload notifications. We're at the maximum the grid will handle where I am - 12kW is already a huge solar system for a domestic property. Most people have somewhere between 4kW - 6kW. The mirrors have definitely extended the useful generation hours, especially toward the end of the day but it's quite an outlay for the mirrors and a long term investment.

    11:52 - my personal favourite part of the video - I love that you turn back then continue your thought! I also agree with the speedo on the screen showing a maximum of 19.9 MPH...I tried to test to see if it actually went faster (it CERTAINLY DOES!!!)...but even if the speedo is changed to kmh, it shows a maximum of 32 kmph - which is because I think that, to be 'legal' (over here as well) and be classified as an e-bike it cannot exceed that speed (officially)...

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare Місяць тому

      Yes I think that makes sense and is the most logical reason for the 19.9mph limit on the screen. In the UK the 'legal' limit for an e-bike is only 15.5mph but in most other countries I think it is 20mph and while I'm not a fan of man-made laws and regulations I can kind of see the limit reason from a pedestrian protection point of view as electric bikes are very heavy compared to most normal bikes.

    Sir...a note from Toronto: I just purchased one of these beasties...and it's pronounced: 'EYE-sin-wheel' (crazy name for a bike, though)...My main issue is the pedals being too close to the front fender, when pedaling through a turn...rather sketchy, that. Nevertheless - it's basically a good 'entry-level' e-bike for sure. I've been in communication with 'Isinwheel' and explained that they either need to cant the front wheel forward 1 1/2", or perhaps sell a set of 'shorter cranks'...Thanks for your video review...!

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare Місяць тому

      Yes, it confused me that they would produce a bike which has this problem for many riders since the industry standards for frame design and sizes must be easy to replicate given how many well functioning bikes there are on the Earth. Even after 300+ miles I've never had a problem with my foot catching the front wheel, even when turning tightly or at speed but that's because I'm so used to using the ball of my foot on pedals (my other bikes have always had small SPD pedals I click into).

  • @bobbo9549
    @bobbo9549 Місяць тому

    To be fair after 200 miles a running service should be carried out which should involve checking and adjusting the head set and the brakes as they have now bedded in. 20mph? To be road legal it’s supposed to be limited to 15mph ish under pedal assist but you should be able to limit the speed via the display panel settings.

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare Місяць тому

      Yes, it's now got over 300 miles on the clock and since I crashed it one of the wheels is a bit bucked. While I've been able to straighten it sideways the shape of the wheel is still slightly egg-like now so I am taking it to a local bike place to repair and replace the brake pads / check all joints and make sure everything is torqued correctly etc. since I like to have a bike running sweet. With regard to the speed it came from the manufacturer limited to 15mph but that was easily changed since I'm not going to run around on a bike which isn't working to the full potential. I live in the country and most of my rides I don't even see a car on the roads let alone anyone who is going to snitch about going over 20mph, lol - in a city it's very different since there are many vehicles and pedestrians to consider.

When I'm traveling I carry a metal straw and a plastic or metal fork as everywhere is conforming to the awful paper only dictate laid down by the WEF / UN. I ordered fish and chips a few weeks ago and when the only option was a wooden fork I left the meal on the counter and told the person serving me to put the meal in the bin, walked out of the shop while being berated by the shop owners and other (brain dead) customers. It's only by saying NO that we will defeat the nonsense.

The mirrored panels are stuck onto a very thin piece of Luann plywood and taped to each side of the panel and are completely adjustable in angle they are the same size as the panel s.

    ...apparently, it's pronounced 'EYE' SIN WHEEL...I love the front carrier on yours - so THAT"S what that four bolt bracket is for!! I bought one and after a few weeks, I sent it back (at my own shipping cost!) - due to the serious safety issue of the pedals being way to close to the front fenders. Just TRY pedaling around a corner whilst pedaling! I lost control TWICE when my toes hit the fender resulting in a loss of control. Why would the company produce an otherwise great bike with this sort of safety defect? I even wrote to the company directly with a diagram showing them how this situation could be rectified - by rotating the front fork forward a couple of inches (with the handlebars correspondingly, backwards a bit. But, really - why couldn't they have made the FRAME a bit longer to preclude this problem? What were they thinking? The price of the bike was very reasonable, and I actually thought of having the post re welded myself - or even having the main steering post moved forward. So sad... This COULD be the perfect Dutch-style 'city bike' if it had a bit 'longer frame' to remove the contact issue! Cheers from Toronto

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare Місяць тому

      Yes, there has been lots of people mentioning the pedal / front wheel issue but I've honestly not been bothered by it, even when turning tightly at speed. However, I've spent years being clipped into tiny SPD Shimano pedals on my mountain bikes so I now naturally use the ball of my foot on the pedal instead of the middle of my foot. It would definitely be an issue if more of my foot stuck out beyond the pedal. At the point of writing this I've done over 300 miles (approx. 500km) and never had a tumble due to catching the front wheel with my feet but I can definitely appreciate how that could happen very easily. As you say a longer frame would ensure that there was no issue with the distance between pedals and front wheel. Like yourself I've no idea how that issue wasn't picked up in the design stage but the average shoe size in China is only 5.5 - 6.5 according to Google.

      This is in my own pond and ultimately I don't care what is deemed as 'illegal' when practicing survival skills. In a survival situation we will need to catch food or be reliant on poisoned food handed out by the govern-ment. If people refuse practice the methods to catch food then they will really struggle. I rule nothing out when finding food. If we listened to the govern-ment we'd all be triple vaxxed and slowly dying. I'd rather not take that chance and hopefully you're not in that camp.

      Unfortunately there has been problems with legal documents (or the lack thereof) which manifested when these filters were take to be sold in the USA. Due to a lack of legal documentation (even though these filters have been used for decades in emergency situations) the company (a charity in the UK) decided to suspend all sales to non-NGO companies (e.g. me) and that is very unfortunate. From what I have garnered from conversations I've had with the distributors the selling of the filters to retail distributors is well down their priorities so I have no idea whether these filters will ever be available again outside of the NGO's who supply to the (manufactured) war zones around the world. It is very frustrating since people wanting to buy these filters know that all wars are manufactured and we'd just love to prepare for a genuine emergency. From a personal point of view I've saved one family filter and one community filter for my own preps but I'd love to be able to help others with their preps too - at the present time that is unfortunately not an option but I will relist these filters on my website should they ever be available in the future. I would love it if everyone (including the manufacturers of the filters) could see the bigger picture but that's not the case presently. Sorry about that.

    Thanks for the video. What is the timing of the system please. How long to fill and how long to drain?

    • @pondguru
      @pondguru Місяць тому

      (my other channel) It takes somewhere between 10-15 minutes to go from drain to full to drain again. Obviously the time of the drain cycle can differ depending on the water level in the tank the system sits over. Currently I have this system operating over my main water tank in the vegetable garden and the water level fluctuates there daily so the drain cycle could be anywhere from 10 minutes to approx. 25 minutes - either way it still works fine.

    • @robguyatt9602

      @@pondguru Thanks for taking the time for me. I am designing a small system based on my fish pond. It has a capacity of 1500L. The grow beds will be IBC based. I have come up with a system to flood and drain such that the pond will not vary in depth. It is effectively the sump tank. There will be constant flow into it at all times. It's quite a simple system where each grow bed is divided in half. The system of flood and draining is completely mechanical and automatic. The cycle time will be about 10 minutes with equal time to drain as to fill . The reason for asking is that I was not sure how long roots can be without water. From your answer it sounds like my timing is ok. What's your thoughts?

I've ridden this bike on fields, woodland tracks, up and down kerbs and smashed it into fences so you don't have to - if it is used as a road (commuter) bike ... which to be fair is its intended purpose ... then it will perform very well for you for many years.
