Catching a big Carp on the UFO reel: • Carp Fishing w/ Bread ...
Thanks to Myles from Rodless Reel for sending these reels to show my viewers.
They are very different from anything currently available from other manufacturers and both of them solve the common problem of missing the reel when retrieving the line.
The Survivor series of reels is made from plastic, is extremely light and is the cheaper of the two reels.
The UFO series of reels (Unidentified Fishing Object) is machined from an anodized Aluminum spool and core with Stainless Steel handle, 35 Ball Bearings.
As we're heading into Winter and my local river is a raging flood I tried to catch fish on my pond but they weren't biting while filming this video - I will keep trying and film it for upload to the THOUSAND YARD STARE channel.
On the RODLESS REEL UA-cam channel Myles catches lots of fish on both types of reels.
    Thanks for watching.

Totally agree that Miles should continue to sell both, personally I'd even go a step further and say maybe combine the two with the compactness/ergonomics of the Survivor but the solid/premium build quality of the UFO. That would be an instant buy for me.

Good one, yes - offering at least 2 options is the way to go.

Wow, to see these products in your hands has me geeking out. Thank you so much for generously reviewing these reels. I was at the edge of my seat as you were fishing with them. I hope you get the chance to catch a fish on them some day but definitely don't feel obligated to unless you just want to. I like how you pointed out the line on the survivor series how it stays on the spool the best. I've noticed this and the same thing goes for the pro series I ran on Kickstarter a long time ago. I'm developing another pro series called the Pro 2.0 which looks like the survivor series but has a gear ratio advantage. Will definitely produce them when I can afford to do so. Again, Thank you so much for this, I really do love your content on this channel and also Pondguru. You guys be sure to follow that channel as well, this man is full of wisdom. Best, Myles.

No worries, man - and I will definitely be catching fish on these reels but they arrived the same time as the Monsoon here, lol
The video is also uploaded to the main channel and I will make that live before the end of the weekend.
I genuinely like the reels and after seeing your chunky hobo handline 3D printed experiment I'm wondering if you could incorporate a metal rail around it to hold bearings and a rotating spool with a folding handle - maybe I need to draw that one out but it would offer a handle (left hand) a rotating spool for easy retrieval (with handle for right hand), lots of capacity for line and a hollow centre with screw off lid for storage of gear. The only problem with such a thing is that it would probably cost a fortune to manufacture so may end up way too expensive at the retail level.

@@ThousandYardStare That would be cool, i've designed one in a similar fashion except without the storage compartment. It was very cool and simple to produce and worked excellent however I guess I never mass produced it because I focused on the pro series at the time. I want to design a proper full fledged model with all the bells and whistles but keeping part count to a minimal reduces production cost by milestones.

@@RodlessReel That sounds awesome but I hear you on the production costs - a simple change can add a huge amount of time and cost to the manufacturing process.

I really like that UFO model. But not the price. I'll pick one up second hand if I get a chance but I can't justify that much for a new one. I have a survivor series unit. Pretty cool for its size.

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare  Рік тому +2

Yes, its very cool, very well made but accordingly expensive.
I'd still take something which is made to perform well for years over some cheap Chinese knock-off but I appreciate that cost is cost no matter what the quality is - everything has a ceiling price and that is very individual.

Wow, I've never seen anything like this before, the UFO looks like a fidget spinner! I reely love the survivor series one, so compact. Great review, now entering 'I want one mode'. Thank you.

    The vid lol.
I wondered the line being in line with reel. Cheers. Bought braid and wondered which hand might be more prone to accidental cuts vs techniques. Thought right hand would need glove but seems maybe left hand. It might be ok with no glove. Not kevlar anyway. Apart from line wrapping on left hand and a fish pulling line when fish is ashore ( right hand ). Its not generally like a rod caster.
I ended up buying ( with no knowledge ) different lures. At worst .5g Japenese spoons ( spro incy spoons ) Then bought weights 1,2,3 and 8. Then searched for micro snap swivels. Just because of the spoons. A .5g spoon. 1g weight. Plus a micro swivel. Will still look like a fish. 3g more mechanical.
Added rubber bands also. The bands are a nicer fit than your bands. Unless bands are shredded.

Owner ( I think Cultiva ) snap swivel 0. You can buy with silencers. Been waiting a while though from Estonia/package might seem lost. £20+ for 12 snap swivels lol. Seem maybe less mechanical looking though.

They both look like very nice reels. Initially I was drawn to the UFO as it looks more robust but the survivor looks like it can hold its own especially when reeling in. Price is not too bad either as there is currently a bit of a sale going on.

    • @ThousandYardStare

Anything as compact as this which can be used with a small spinner gets my vote as so many of the other options are limited to bait fishing.

I have a survivor reel and I really enjoy using it. If the reel had a little lock and a tiny little telescopic rod that fitted on the top would be perfect.

That's something I haven't considered but you pose a valid question there.
