    This was a decent hunt with a good amount of Wood Hedgehog Fungus harvested then later dried in my dehydrator for storage.
    I had an added bonus of finding a few sites which had a huge amount of Horn of Plenty which were unfortunately past their best and I'll be visiting those in late August / early September next year.
    Wicker foraging basket: geni.us/0g6dRi
    Dehydrator I use: ebay.us/Q5e11d
    On a serious note, it is very important to learn as many 'outdoor' skills as you can since you never know when you need them.
    Having knowledge of natural environments, shooting, trapping, fishing and foraging are literally life-saving skills since without them we die when the current system of on-demand food and easy shopping goes away.....and it will go away at some point - do you want to be the guy fighting a hungry 300lb man-monster or a bloated blue-haired screamer for the last packet of Super Noodles in a ransacked supermarket or do you want to be prepared?
    Do you want your pronouns to be Was / Were? ........ nope.
    It's a simple choice.
    Knowledge is power but we're 'educated' to exist in the system without being taught what the system is and how to navigate the (obvious) pitfalls.
    Knowledge costs nothing and can be carried in the mind, given away for free and used to combat ignorance - it's a great deal but takes time and effort to learn useful skills.
    Foraging is most definitely one of those useful skills.

    To be honest I've not much idea of what Rumble is or does but it seems quite popular among people more tech-savvy than me....and somehow plenty of people have already found the videos judging by the views (and 'Rumbles'?).
    Both Odysee and Rumble have new videos uploaded to them as soon as they upload on UA-cam.

    Always great to see one of your videos Richard and you certainly bagged yourself a nice haul of fungi there whilst out enjoying the nature.

      There will definitely be way more varieties coming up in the next few weeks so I'm looking forward to that.

    Love hedgehog, almost chicken like texture. I always get a natural high if I eat them the same day almost like downing an energy drink.😂

      That's probably down to the amount of natural trace elements in the fungi - whenever the body gets what it wants you will feel good.
      The reverse is true too - whenever I eat crappy food I feel crappy, lol

    Hi, Recent rains came in South Wales 8 days ago...as of yesterday no fungi at all.
    Hedgehogs are old already they showed a month ago while they normally show in mid-late October.
    Chanterelles were very poor this year after the June drought they barely showed in July/Sept.
    Huge flush of Summer Cep in July after the rain…they stopped growing after 5-7 days as the humidity vanished.
    Winter Chanterelle’s popped up a fortnight ago in the rains and within a day vanished…
    Haven’t seen Millers, Fly Agaric, Trooping Funnels or anything since the rains last weekend.
    Same as you: Grounds saturated…warm days…cool nights.
    Whats going on eh 🤷

      It's up and down weather-wise since we're going through a natural solar cycle and the two big volcanoes which erupted a couple of years ago haven't helped the jet stream stability. They never even made the news which is unfortunate but understandable given the current narrative.
      The next couple of weeks should see an explosion of life in the woods.....hopefully.

      If they're scared of reality then they're surely scared of the dark too but given how violent unthinking minds can be I'll wear a stab proof vest next time I'm out, lol

    Great channel mate I really enjoy mushroom hunting but also enjoy hunting with a slingshot should give it a try unless you already have and I totally agree about the vegan thing I always say to people see if you could stay warm at night if you was living in the woods for a few weeks on a vegan diet I just subscribed to your channel definitely like minded people nice one man ✌👍🍄

      @ThousandYardStare  10 місяців тому

      Good one, man - Yes, a variety of foods in any diet is so important for health of body and mind.
      With regard to slingshot hunting it is OK as long as the ammo is available and of a consistent size and weight since without that the accuracy drops significantly.
      If I didn't have a selection of different rimfire rifles I'd use an air rifle for hunting small game since they are so accurate and quiet. A tin of 500 pellets is pocket sized too. For long term survival situations trapping would be way more effective than slingshot or rifles so that's a useful skill to know too - basically the more skills can learn the greater our currency is in the game of life.
      It's unbelievable how many people don't even know basic plants and animals of the countryside let alone what they can eat safely.
      Most of the survival / bushcraft skills cost nothing except a time investment by the participant so I always love it when I hear that anyone has taken the time to learn skills.

      @ThousandYardStare  11 місяців тому +1

      Sorry, I forgot to put the link in the video description. As far as I can remember it is the Opinel No.8 knife which comes and goes from various websites.
      When I uploaded this I couldn't find one in stock but if you keep searching for 'No.8 mushroom knife Opinel' it will pop up at some point.

      @ThousandYardStare  10 місяців тому +1

      When I finally get the kitchen finished I will make some cooking videos but ideally I'd like to shoot them on ingredients I've foraged. The kitchen should have been finished months ago but it's getting there. I just finished laying the flooring yesterday and it's looking good.

    any Idea for forest wild walking?

    • @ThousandYardStare
      @ThousandYardStare  11 місяців тому

      I'm not too familiar with the area around Newcastle as I live about 12 miles West but the Tyne valley, Derwent valley and Wear valley all have lots of woodlands flanking the river and all have decent walks. Most of the woodland is hardwood so will have fungi at the right time of year.

    I completely understand why a lot of people see vegans the way they do.
    Unfortunately my youngest child has no choice but to be vegan as they were born with allergies to milk, eggs etc.
    Maybe there should be an ‘not vegan by choice’ voice?

    • @ThousandYardStare

      That's a major bummer being allergic to diary and when it's a choice of eating certain foods and not others or starving (or being made ill) there's only one choice. They're also allergic to meat, cheese, honey and fish?
      It must be a real task planning meals to ensure they get plenty of nourishment - if that was me I'd probably end up living mostly on potatoes and nuts and I'd have all my garden for growing my own food to minimize pesticide and herbicide exposure.
      I hope there's some way your youngest will develop a tolerance for other foods - is there a chance that may happen?

    • @karlneumann856

      Hi Richard,
      He is indeed allergic to all those things bless him.
      He’s autistic so trying new foods groups from the ones he can eat is a challenge also.
      He has what his dietician has referred to as a liking for only ‘Beige’ food groups.
      So chips, crisps, chocolate, toast, bagels etc.
      we make the chips, bread and bagels ourselves so as to negate any nasties put into the ‘supermarket’ products.
      Chocolate is always the free from chocolate. He didn’t like carob.
      My wife has started growing vegetables in our garden now it’s been sorted.
      He has to have doctor prescribed vitamins everyday in his juice.
      We are hoping that he will be willing to try new foodstuffs at some point.
      Until then we just offer a little of something different on his plate every meal time.
      I appreciate you taking the time to reply to me.
      Support of any kind is always much appreciated.
      Karlos

      @@karlneumann856 Growing your own food could be a game changer, especially if you get your son involved in the process. The nutritional value of recently harvested food is way beyond anything bought in supermarkets too especially with the likes of leafy greens which lose their vitamins so quickly after harvest.
      Foraging can also be a great way to get children to eat food they wouldn't normally have access to and eating wild food straight from the bush or tree is not only a good learning exercise but it is also the purest form of food with no added chemicals.
      If he was allergic to pollen I'd say go for locally produced honey since that would solve the problem but when it comes to food allergies they seem to be a bit more baked into the body as a whole.
      We live in a world of so many pollutants and under an invisible rainbow of electromagnetic interference that getting ourselves away from such influences can be almost impossible unless we live like the Amish (which I hope everyone would do).
