    Okay, on a third review, maybe have another column in the CVS -- say like "Install Column" (A) and another "De-Install Column" (B) -- or, whatever the names. So, (A) is the code that the App will run if you click on the left-clicker, and the right-clicker will run the (B) code. Then, you could check for (A) or (B) in the code, then enable or disable the clickers for that CVS row on your GUI. And, you might even have a column to indicate that it is a Flatpak or not, because you wouldn't need code there -- just the Flatpak's real / searchable identity name. And, the install or uninstall of a flatpak would be simple -- just needed is "Flatpak, search code-repository name". Then, there wouldn't have to be any code to run like SH for that. Again, I am brainstorming, because that's how I would do it. And, lot of this could reduce down, once you thought about it. I'm not saying how 100 columns, but this Tool could really be useful with both abilities to run SH and install / de-install flatpaks, snaps, whatever.

  • @PoeLemic
    @PoeLemic День тому

    Also, another suggestion, because you've got something magical here; so, I will devote some time to give you a few more thoughts. #1) Okay, I'm not sure most would care about the Remove Top-Tab. If it were me, cut that. Use this app as a "Fast-Installer" or something like that, then it's easy for people to latch onto it. The Remove crap is nada-useful in my opinion. #2) Make the CVS also have a column where this App will run a script that must exist in the directory ... For instance, you have something say (I don't know because I'm not a LInux guru) but say you want to (task) is "add my favorite shortcuts to sidebar of Nautilus" and then I run a script called "Sidebar-Additions-To-Nautilius.sh". Okay, well, I want the ability to put that onto that Tool. So, the CVS column could have another "Run-SH-file" -- which will run afterwards when the click-is-checked & run-button. > again, think of how powerful #2 is, because so many people do lot of crap to setup systems. I sure do in Windows. Be nice to just create a script, then fire it when I first install the Linux environment, and use this tool to organize all of the scripts to do that. [Please, see the genius in that. Cut the remove, or find another way to give that functionality. Maybe a second clickbox, next to first one for Removals. Then cut that top tab, and allow more room for people to have their own Top-Tabs.] > Also, think of a good name for this App, because if you hit some of the suggestions here, then this could really be something that would catch-on, unless something already exists. But, I am not in the Linux domain enough to give you any feedback on that. > Also, I hope that my ideas help move you forward, because what you have is UTTER GENIUS. It's an innovation that millions could use. I'd set up a Patreon or donation coffee (or whatever that is) where people can give to you where you can make income to do this in your spare time.

  • @PoeLemic
    @PoeLemic День тому

    Hey, want another suggestion? Maybe, have a pull-down box in upper right for "Type of Install: ". Then, you have (at start of CVS file) where person can define the Install # and Install Type. Like this: 1,Work Install ... 2,Gaming Install ... etc. Then, on the CVS for the rows, have another column that lets you add 123 or whatever where you can say that this row will run with that type of install. Okay, then PRE-POPULATE the app (as the Install-Type is selected), and POOF -- all those check-boxes are pre-populated for you with one click of the Install-Type. Right? > Save a person a crap-load of time to go and click all those rows. Honestly, think about how simple an install could be. With your invention, this is coming close to NixOS configurations.

    Windows is more gaming & commercial office than anything else these days. I used Linux Ubuntu 12 on an old PC to give it a new lease of life many years ago, the PC lasted another 2 years before it gave up (15 years old XP machine). About 2 weeks ago, I wanted a home PC which was not Windows as I've been wanting to get away from them for a few years, especially with the privacy issues around Windows, they may have backtracked, but I believe they are honestly postponing it. Additional rumours are they will be implementing ads and pop-up ads in Windows 11, which will interrupt all applications. If you do not want the ads, you have to pay a subscription. I got a 5 year old mini PC, new SSD, reapplied the thermal paste, installed Mint, which was blocked by Windows from being install on the existing SSD, hence new SSD. 8 years of not using a terminal, back to learning all those things I have forgotten. Hooked up to a projector, steam films even use the office suite. Will take sometime to get used, but in the long run will be worth it. Additionally, the mini PC is 70w against 1000w, then again that is main gaming PC, so having something with a lower power consumption would be beneficial.

    Thanks for letting me discover Stacer. Maybe is the one tool missing in Linux Mint default setup to make it the perfect system for Windows leavers. The purpose of Linux Mint is to give you the best experience out of the box specially for Windows switchers. With the time, after the second install you realize that you need to script things you want to uninstall from the default setup and stuff that you want to install to make it yours. But this won't attract or tilt a Windows switcher, is just a fast way to make your Linux Mint more yours. It is not a good practice to go grab a script from the Internet and run it, even if it is on GitHub. Why you don't propose this feature to the Linux Mint team to add it in the Welcome screen? Lots of many other distros propose such a thing.

    Watching this chan after it popped up in my feed a few days ago, I'll give your script a whirl, looks very interesting. I'm trying to convince an elderly neighbour (78) to ditch Windows and switch to Linux, but he only really needs a browser and a couple of other bits, so this might be an ideal way to simplify removing any unnecessary apps. Does it only work with Mint? or would it also run on something like Linux Lite? Thanks and keep up the good work!

To check which sound server is running, use the following command: inxi -A If you're unable to get the sound working, you can try to go back to the older sound server called PulseAudio. apt purge pipewire pipewire-bin systemctl enable --user pulseaudio sudo reboot

    Any thoughts on adding VLC to your program list?

      I’m going to work on the config file idea. The Toolbox will come with a slate of apps by default, and allow for user defined as well. VLC and MPV should definitely be in the default list. Thanks for the comment and suggestion.

    Im going to be keeping an eye on this Toolbox, but it is similar to the Linux Utility from Chris Titus Tech. That tool runs from the terminal, is distro agnostic and written in Rust. All that said, choice is good. Its nice to have options.

      @@TheLinuxITGuy Thanks! After 25+ years of using various Linux distros, it's nice to see some of these post-install tools coming out. One feature I'd like to see is to be able to disable asterisks in the terminal when typing a password. That is my #1 pet peeve when using a Mint system, and normally the first thing I disable.

    Hey dude! Been gaming on Windows ever since I was a kid, during XP era. Recently decided to give Linux a shot and was blown away how smooth everything is. Only reason why I still have Windows 10 dual booted on my PC is because I can't get my steering wheel to work on Linux, alongside some other software, but I digress. No matter what I did on Windows, my Turtle WoW client didn't run well at all. I had some weird stretched aspect ratio, game was stuck on 60hz, it was stuttery even on low settings, and not a single fix from TWoW's guide worked. Once I got the game on Linux following your guide, everything works smooth as butter. Thank you for your time, this tutorial, and your work on tdf. You are awesome.

    Please, start a Video Series on this app. Look at what Chris Titus did with something he threw together, and it has really grown. I'd even give donations if you really spent some time. [SUBBED]

    This is brilliant. Maybe, create a way where you can read a configuration file, then that would populate with more Script options for some of us to add our own stuff. Because I sure would love to setup my system like this, because I am new to Linux. But, I can see the great benefits of this. Honestly, it shocks me that more people don't have a setup-system like this. Stupid not to. > Say, have it read something like a CSV file. All you are doing, is grouping a particular application line -- 2 things: text to see and script name, then grouping it to the Tab Name and GroupBox. > So easy to just automate a lot of stuff, and you could have 10+ tabs at the top. And, many people could start suggesting things to add to it. > Many people would do this, and make Linux setups so much easier. Especially, if you had it were they could just edit a text file to configure this themselves ... super easy. And, I thought about doing this myself, once I become better at Linux. But, I thought of a menu system with numbers that I would run. Because I can't remember all of the different command line arguments now or applications (say GParted versus Computer-Management, like in Windows). So, I was planning to have a command line app that I run (like "myp" for my-programs"), and then I would slowly build that out and make it easier for myself.

    User should have the option (if both are available) to choose flatpak or system install. I had a bad experience on Linux Mint 21.3 with Audacity Flatpak. With version 3.6.1, a bug was created with the auto-height resizing of the waveform. Randomly, the waveform can disappear when zooming in/out. When you go to full-screen it appears again, but as you zoom again, it can randomly disappear again. So, you constantly have to full screen and normal size the program's window over and over again, making it infuriating! Thankfully, the system install of Audacity in Linux Mint 22 is 3.4.2 and solved that problem.
