    MY GOD
    I tried another installation guide before this one, and spent probably 5 hours fighting for 1980/1920 resolution on GNOME using xrandr and everything. With this guide everything just worked out of the box, and anything that didn't you explained. EVEN MY SOUND CARD that previously cried that it didn't have its drivers just up and started working.

      @@TheLinuxITGuy Smooth sailing so far, had to do a little bit of troubleshooting here and there but so far the arch wiki and forums have been very helpful.
      Only thing I can't currently figure out, is that I have 2 drives about a tera each that I can mount but not use in any way (new folder options greyed out etc..). The drive arch is installed on will last me a little while but as a gamer I'd like access to my big drives too.
      edit: I have formatted them from ntfs to ext4 btw

    So when you're installing, for example: gimp from the repositories-- are they already in your system? or are the repositories online and you're pulling them from the cloud somewhere? In other words, can you install programs from the repositories while offline? (I'm just trying to understand how it works)... I guess I can just ask AI this stuff. lol

  • @calholli
    @calholli 5 днів тому

    Can you add repositories from other distros: For example, MX has a really good set of utilities (MX Tools) inside it's distro.. can I add the additional MX repositories and install MX tools and it show up inside the KDE 'start' menu? or is that not possible? or not compatible - with it being based on debian and not arch? Is it really that straight forward, or dose not everything work together like that???

    • @TheLinuxITGuy
      @TheLinuxITGuy  5 днів тому

      I would just use MX.

    • @calholli
      @calholli 5 днів тому

      @@TheLinuxITGuy haha.. Typical Linux problem.. I like the look and features of a few other distros over MX, but I do like MX tools. I AM going to use MX on my oldest machine.. but I think I'm going with Nobara and Garuda on two other machines.. (for now). Everyone likes to cut out all the fat and stay minimalist: but right now, I'm trying to dive into all this "advanced" stuff and get some more experience under my belt and see how I like it.. Like running lutris and hero.. wine.. and installing flatpacs and snaps, etc.. All this stuff is new to me since the last time I played with linux. So I'm trying to jump in the deep end for awhile first.. then I'll cut out all the bloat later......... either end up on debian 12 or maybe Arch-- depending on which way I go. Your channel is great though.. I'm learning fast

    Followed this exactly for a brand new install. Then I get a black screen with a white mouse cursor.
    Tried a second and third time. Same result.
    I don’t think Arch likes Nvidia 4090.

    Thank you, one question, how can you know your nvidia GPU is actually working (or being used)? in my case only my integrated card is listed in "about this system" and nvtop shows no activity of the discrete GPU (even when 2 monitors).
    (I made sure the drivers are well installed)
    Thank you!! :)

    Okay, using the Arch install script method, the easier way, and I can wholeheartedly agree with that. Better than going far too manual.
    For viewers: don't skip the selection of the Mirrors section, you can save a lot of time for yourself with updates, installations, especially on first large instllation packs when the closest mirrors with the fastest connections possible are enabled for your region!
    Also, do not skip swap creation. Arch makes smaller than others, only the necessary size swap space, but it could be good, especially on lower specced machines. You can always make vm.swappiness a lower value later, to prevent overuse of your SSD and wear.
