Matrix is not an irc client. It is another messaging protocol. The client used for Matrix is "Element" here. As hexchat was outdated and irc is really old they decided to move to a newer chat method. I think they are still going to use irc in the future as I heard there was a new irc app called jagournaut being developed by mint team to replace hexchat but I'm not exactly sure about that though.

Hopefully LAN upload speeds to Network drives somehow gets better. Connecting to the Router at 2.5Gbps or 480Mbps upload speeds are the same :( . Windows PC's don't have this issue on my network

I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon and I've run into a bit of a problem. I think this also happened on Windows.
I have a problem with my computer being connected to the TV via. HDMI but for some odd reason I can't get the resolution up to 1920x1080, or I can but the whole screen or picture will be more "zoomed in", it kinda stretches further than my TV. So for now it's set to 1680x1050. It looks just fine but I'm confused as to why this happens.
I've tried messing around in the display settings on both Linux and on my TV but I can't fix it from either.
    What do I do?

@@TheLinuxITGuy I just tried this and it doesn't help. Still the same stretched screen on 1920x1080. I don't know if it's because it's hooked up to a TV. I don't get this issue on a PC monitor.

That’s the beauty of Linux. If you don’t like something, you have options.
Personally, I think Mint needs to bring back KDE as an option. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. Thanks for watching.

Linux Mint is quite customizable. In just a few steps, you can have a modern GUI. The default icons look old, but that can be easily changed. What works for me is the Adapta Nokto theme + Tela Budgie icons in Cinnamon. For some reason that I don't understand, the Mint developers choose the worst version of the GUI by default. Additionally, most UA-cam videos explaining Linux Mint use precisely this GUI.

@@TheLinuxITGuy I am new to Linux. I moved from Windows 10 to Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon a few weeks ago and I am very happy. So far there is nothing I did on Windows 10 that I can not do on Linux Mint 21.3. My question, since I am new and have not experienced upgrading from one version of Linux Mint Cinnamon to a newer version, is upgrading to a newer version pretty straight forward? How is the upgrade initiated? Is it via the newer version ISO install? Is there and "Upgrade" option during the install? What are the challenges, if any, when upgrading. I assume I should backup my folders, what is the easing, most secure way to backup Linux folders/files? As I said, I am new and have not gotten to the backup question yet.
      Thank you,
      Randy

I use a 3 TB external hard drive for my backups. Seems to work nicely for my use case. The saying is if you don’t have at least 3 copies, it isn’t backed up, but it really depends on your use case. As always, thanks for watching.

@@TheLinuxITGuy Thank you for your help. Question: Since Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon is based on Ubuntu 24.04, can I simply upgrade via the Software Manager, as I can with the point upgrades? Or do I have to wipe out Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon, wipe out the drive, and install a fresh copy of Linux Mint 22? My current install of Linux Mint 21.3 is on a separate hard drive, NOT along side of Windows. Linux Mint has the drive all to itself. I read that upgrading from a version of Linux to a new version of Linux that is based on a different/newer version of Ubuntu, such as Linux Mint 21.3 (Ubuntu 22.04) and Linux Mint 22 (Ubuntu 24.04), I should not upgrade from Linux Mint 21.3 to Linux Mint 22 using the Software Manager, but I should upgrade to Linux 22 by wiping out Linux Mint 21.3 and installing a fresh, clean Linux Mint 22. I just want to make sure I get it right and don't lose data or mess things up. As I said, Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon is my first install/experience with Linux.
      Thank you!
      Randy
