I don't know where is safe to leave my mountain bike unless the police station has a bike rack in its yard. The horse has bolted, the damage is done. Can they not learn anything from Sheffield?

From my understanding from a cousin who has an indoor stall it’s all going to be a massive indoor market with one part a food hall the other for the rest. I have the opposite view to other comments in that Rotherham council had to do something or the town centre would just completely die. I don’t think Parkgate was or is the problem as the shops there are generally the large ones and not the town centre type. In my opinion it’s Meadow Hall with its massive variety and extremely easy access for cars that signalled the dead knell for Rotherham especially when Rotherham became pedestrianised. Rotherham council needs to undue that and create lots of free parking or no matter what else they do to attract people back it’s going to fail.

There's an artist impression on line. I would link it but I don't think UA-cam likes links in comments. If you Google rotherham markets project its first result. I'm not keen on the look but then again I liked the look of the old concrete council buildings that were across the road that many people thought were an eyesore so what do I know about aesthetics. I don't get how they are going to fit both the market and the library in the space of the market unless the building is much taller or market and library are much smaller.

Here's something controversial Couldn't they have just knocked down the market and built a shopping centre and a carpark similar to park gate ? I wonder why our councils will not emulate park gate and out of town shopping centres in the city and town centres They are full of shops and would bring massive footfalls in to the town and city centres Have parking where it's ticketed, first 3 hours free then £2 for each additional hour It's as though they want town and city centres to fail on purpose

Cycled up there a few times, definitely the hardest climb i done compared to a lot of other hills in and around that area. Cannot believe how busy it is though!

Too many people on the planet, bumper to bumper, you used to go out in the peak District in the 80s and 90s and hardly see anyone, could walk on roads, just heaving every day now, especially mam tor. I'd sooner walk down the Sheffield canal these days Tim 👍
