Bruh, you gotta see some footage of the "group B" era. Back in the 80's, this sport was so wild spectators and drivers were getting themselves straight killed. The clips in this video happened AFTER they said "OK boys, this sh*t is getting out of hand. Tame it down a little, yeah?"

Rally cars are homologated, so you actually can go to your dealership and buy one of those cars depending on where you live. A couple months ago I bought a GR Corolla, which is the North American equivalent of the GR Yaris shown in the video.

When they returned, they didn't receive the welcome they deserved. I hope they will finally make it home someday.

I’m lucky to live where the uk wrc stages are held in north wales. Absolute brilliant weekend of rallying and hearing them cars flying past you at incredible speeds and the smell when wet mud bakes onto the exhaust that another experience. Shame the WRC Wales has been cancelled because of Covid and we don’t know if it’s coming back but we still have national events here at llyn Brenig and Alwen stages. And one more thing about being a spectator once you start going to rally events you know where to stand on the stages. We normally work our way up the stages and when the cars come down you hear the whistles blow first and then you just stand behind a random tree or in a ditch and enjoy 😂 This sport is it’s the only racing event I go to where they drive the cars in between stages through the towns in public, you could be literally filling up your car at a petrol station and there’s a wrc rally car filling up there fuel too.

It's very a rare spectacle but there is still some in the wild that survived the consumer market, unfortunately a lot of people died thinking they could drive like a pro just by buying a pro car. I doubt any ever made it to the American markets due to the low volume made and vehicle import tax.

After Group B was banned it took two years for Group A cars with half the horsepower to set faster stage times, mainly due to advancements in tyre and drivetrain technology. Never heard of Peugeot? Rally today is probably the safest high speed motorsport around with very few fatalities. Rally cars are very safe and audience members today are much better behaved than they have been. I watched a rally here in Denmark. There were maps of the stage marked where it was safe to spectate, neutral areas where it's probably safe to spectate, and red areas assumed to be very dangerous. Don't pick a dangerous spot to spectate from and you'll be about as safe as anywhere else near moving cars.

If your reaction to group B was like this, I wonder how you would have felt if this was your reaction to group S. Group S was rumored to be even more crazy than group B.

That 90 mph is the average speed of one rally car. A driver can reach a breakneck speed of 155 mph in a rally car that has over 300-500hp. Rally is not for the faint of heart my guy.

I´d say rally drivers are the best drivers in the world. And the tradition is, as long as the car works, you go on. Accidents do happen, but deaths are rare.
