    Happy birthday!!
Freddie was a freakin' genius!! The recording of “Bohemian Rhapsody” took three weeks and featured 180 overdubs of vocals and instruments. Since the studios of the time only offered 24-track analogue tape, it was necessary for the three to overdub themselves many times and "bounce" these down to successive sub-mixes. In the end, eighth-generation tapes were used. May recalled placing a tape in front of the light and being able to see through it, as the tape had been used so many times.

They were 4 great artists. All of them could sing, write songs, arrangement music, and play their music at the highest level. They were a super group.
I think of the first part as an introduction. The second part at the piano was his explaining to his mom what he had done and that he may face the death penalty. The third part I think was his trial. He is begging not to be condemned because of his background, but the court decides it will not let him go. The rock part was his asking his girlfriend or a loved one to help him escape or get out of facing the consequences of his actions. At the end he comes to acceptance of his situation.

I was a high school kid when this first played on the radio. To be honest, we heard so many new sounds in the mid seventies that this was just another at that time. We didn't watch videos. We listened to the radio, bought records, and tapes. We enjoyed wild concerts.
As the years have passed, and with the overall reduction of quality music, I think that we now really appreciate the skills and imagination required to be musical stars in the seventies. Read the bios of the members of this group. They were all very intelligent and spent years developing their skills.

You should listen to Queen Live in Montreal, Live Aid, 1981-Somebody to Love. Freddy Mercury and all the band members are British but you can't hear their accents when they sing. Robert May, the lead guitarist, still plays the electro guitar his father made when Robert May was growing up because he couldn't afford to buy one.

Freddie Mercury liked opera and wanted to do a rock opera. Later in his life when he was ill and dying of AIDS he wrote the song Barcelona and sang it along side famous opera soprano Montserrat Caballe.

I was driving to work at McDonalds in 1976, and I remember hearing this on the car radio....I was 16. As much as I like this tune, I had already bought the previous album Sheer Heart Attack, which to this day is my favorite Queen album as they rock a bit harder on that album. I caught this tour in Detroit at Cobo Hall that year. For the middle part, Queen would leave the stage and then come back as they could never replicate the "opera" part. A band called Thin Lizzy opened for them and had a hit "The Boys Are Back In Town" that summer. Great reaction! You are great!

The thing is, he said of course I've heard this song but I want to review it with the video, it would still be fine.

Freddie was Indian and it lent a lot to their music! He loved Opera....& it shows! Some of the names in the operatic part are from childhood Indian stories. I love the arrangements in this piece! It's basically three songs in one...& the concert is suddenly over! lol. Love the Beethoven line! They had a hard time with the music industry over how long this song is! lol. A school dance! lol.

You mentioned Beethoven... if you want to SEE such a performance by Freddie check out White Queen live at the Odeon in 1975. I compare it to more Mozart but 6 of one half dozen of another. But truly a rock concert audience is watching a classical pianist perform and we're DIGGIN' IT !!!
Where was I 1st time hearing/seeing this video??? My mom's basement (rec room) as an adolescent watching this new show called MTV .... and I didn't know if I was afraid of Freddie or enchanted by him (when he's big on the screen alternating between him and Roger)... definitely mesmerized!
