I had the honor of playing his guitar. What people don't realize his strings are so high above the frets that every note that he plays is because his hands are so damn strong he has to push them down to the fret ! And that was why he is so clear he was truly born to play that instrument .
I was fortunate enough to se him live two weeks before he passed away and it was a show I'll remember the rest of my life.. If you haven't reacted to his live video of "Little Sister," it's one you'll truly be impressed by..:)
That rhythm section is a damn locomotive running man...what a foundation for Stevie. Half the time I hear this track I can’t stop listening to the drums
Jimi Hendrix released this song in 1968. SRV said that each time he played this song he hoped that Jimi approved. Rest in Peace Jimi and Stevie. Both gone far too soon. Check out Stevie Ray playing Texas Flood Live at El Mocambo. Dude plays the guitar behind his back and sings at the same time!! SRV = GOAT!!!
What doesn't get the attention it deserves is his performance of "Lenny"..A song he wrote for his wife. Live at the EL Mocambo, in Toronto, Ca...It shows that he isn't all shredding, and can play some really sweet stuff as well, and still blow you away with just how effortless he made it all appear...He was something special, for sure, God rest his soul.
"it's almost like jazz!" Yes, indeed. Blues, of course, but he (and Jimi Hendrix before him) played with those jazz chord structures and changes. I feel we lost so much when he died. He was at the cusp of his creative genius; newly sober and experimenting with new sounds.
Hands down my favorite guitarist. B.B King said he was in awe of him. If the King of Blues say that about you, you are a Master. I truly believe he was a Master of the guitar 🎸 The videos of him playing at the Mocambo are amazing.
Aint gone n give up on love. From the capital theatre in new jersey. Another God like performance. When you listen to stevie ray vaughn listen to his live performances and it can be the same song but the experience is new everytime. I almost started crying the first time i heard it. I wasn't prepared. He is the greatest blues guitarist of all time. Bb King said that being a blues player is having to be a black man twice and a funny thing with stevie i never noticed. He was not only a great guitarist but a great human being that really cared about teeatingnothers as you wantnto be treated. Him and buddy guy were best friends. He use to hang out with albert king and the likes of albert collins and johnny copeland and many other great blues players. I think they all would have said ste ie took it to another level and he did everytime he performed.
This will finish blowing your mind: Texas Flood - Live at the El Mocambo is as good a blues performance by a guitar player you may ever see. His voice and effortless playing are super-human. An absolute must if you truly wanna say you've seen Stevie Ray Vaughan PLAY!.
His last show.. i won w tickets from WLRW 94.5 in Champaign Illinois... all my other musician friends which was metal heads.. classsic rock.. hard rock as i was.. none of them ever heard of stevie ray Vaughan.. n i was like WTF. WTF.... Not even close! 👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That was an awesome reaction! You obviously know what you’re talking about. I can’t wait to watch you watching more Stevie. He was an amazing person, as well. Texas Flood is a great Blues number, definitely do it next, from El Macombo, but at some point, we gotta see you react to “Tin Pan Alley” featuring Stevie Ray and Johnny Copeland. Thank you for introducing Stevie Ray to more folks! I’ll subscribe right now!!!
Stevie bends and MAKES EVERY NOTE count with his Blues shredding. Sheesh...he plays 20 notes a second it seems ..WITH FEELING on every note...clear as day
Great reaction! You want blues? - as others have said "Texas Flood" live at El Macombo - also "Life Without You" and "Ain’t Gone Give Up On Love" both live at the Capital Theater -also- "Tin Pan Alley" at Montreux '85 with Johnny Copeland
SRV has been considered to be one of the greatest guitarists of all-time. He was self-taught and it is such a shame that he died at such a young age. I can only imagine what would it have been like if he was still jamming today. Now he is rockin’ in heaven.
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 Absolute must-see SRV vids: 1) Life Without You at Capitol Theater 2) Texas Flood at El Macambo 3) Voodoo Child at Starwood Theater in Nashville 4) Anything from Austin City Limits 1989
Hello Man 🤗Yeah, Stevie was amazing, and you said right, his technic, his felling, a lot of emotions when he played, that whas the trick, like Jimi Hendrix, or Prince as you said, and lot of guitar players of course, theirs Electric Lady was like language, crying or laughing, I like it👍Happy that you enjoyed Stevie's perform 🥰Good Vib's from France 🤗 Fabien, World's Citizen like anybody☮️🌎
This is a Hendrix song. Stevie learned from listening to the old black bluesmen from the Mississippi River delta, Chicago & Texas. Learning to play from their albums. But Jimi Hendrix was his idol. "Texas Flood" please.
Awesome that you acknowledge the greatness of the bassist Tommy Shannon. He pretty much invented the mixture of Blues/Rock bass playing; that nearly growl that uses a lot of walking runs. He actually played at Woodstock with another guitar great, Johnny Winters.
This another GREAT example of Texas blues. This guy can play better behind his back than most players can in front . check out Texas Flood live at El Macombo by Stevie Ray
First time I heard this was in 1973 when it first came out on KMET in Los Angeles. The next time was later that afternoon after I bought the 8-track and put it in my 57 Chevy to play.
Thx for the reaction. They never played it the same way twice. They just followed what Stevie was feeling that night. Your right, the drummer and bass player are amazing also. One of a kind band.
Texas Flood from El Macombo= Greatest guitar performance on film! Also,"Little Wing"(El Macombo"."Mary had a little lamb " from One night in Texas (Same concert you watched here) "Life without you",Capital Theatre, 1985"...A good start!
Even when he was famous, he still went n played at a small club in Texas, still went to his favorite bbq shack lol... ALL of THAT stuff!! He was a truly down to earth kind hearted person!!

After checking more of his hits I would recommend Tin Pan Alley (Dirty Pool version) live. I'm the biggest SRV fan and that one is an absolute complete spiritual experience.
He also played equally as well behind his back. He was amazing. Check out his filmed bio, if you can find it. He's got an unbelievable musical history.
I’m so glad you mentioned the bass. Tommy Shannon. And Chris Layton on drums. He DID change the time signature...he just looked over and gave the cue. They were THAT tight.
I remember as a teenager, I had SRV cassettes and played the hell out of them, But it wasn't until I matured that I came to realize the level of skill he had that was above the highest level.
I feel exactly the same way being 47 now and listening to SRV growing up I wasn’t amazed but as I got older and wiser I realized SRV is the guitar god.
Yep..him matching the pitch of his voice with the guitar..and and those wicked bass runs...f'ing kick ass song...he is the best guitarist, along with Glen Campbell, I have ever seen live! Master class in guitar.
SRV was indeed influenced by jazz. For a totally different feel, you might like, "Riviera Paradise." It was recorded in one take, and it became the last track on the last studio album SRV released before he died. This is a thoughtful reaction. Nice video.
eFFING omg this jam, yes. Every time I hear it I hear Jimi, and SRV kept Jimi alive after his short (and amazing) time on this third rock from the sun. RIP SRV and Jimi, god knows y'all voodoo children with those guitar strumming skills, icy'alls, skills.
Here’s a small list but you have to watch them all live. “Texas Flood” “Look at Little Sister” “Mary had a little lamb” “Pride and Joy” “Lenny” “Third Stone from the Sun” “Little Wing” “Life Without You” “Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland” “Crossfire” “Superstitious” “Leave My Girl Alone” “Dirty Pool” “The House is Rocking” there’s plenty more I’m forgetting but it’s a list to start with. Best of luck loved your reaction
He was ONE of THE BEST that ever lived!!! SRV!!🌹 Yes he could make it talk, n EVERYTHING else!!!💋 I believe he's in the "27 club" of famous musicians....it's a sad thing to be a part of!!😥
this guy plays so hard hitting. he makes that guitar sing. Another musician cut down in his height. He is a Voodoo-child!! watch his whole concert on youtube video live somewhere
Stevie Ray was awesome in this cover of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile. The 1st 1/4 of the song he stays pretty faithful to Jimi's version (with a bit more hop & swag). By the solo following the 2nd set of verses, he takes off into his own territory. So it's a great tribute to the original while establishing his own prowess. Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" & "The Wind Cries Mary" display Jimi's awesome skill & taste.
SRV is so outrageously good that no-one really talks about the rest of the band members (Double Trouble). Chris Layton on drums and Tommy Shanon on bass tight AF and totally locked in with SRV. They could jam continuously forever, until they dropped. First saw SRV live at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, 1985. Was touring with Albert King, one of his main influences. They played 3 Jimi Hendrix tunes (Voodoo Chile Slight Turn, Third Stone from the Sun, and Little Wing). Hendrix was another major influence. But Jay, SRV rose above the influence. Listen to Texas Flood.
That uptempo style of blues is called Boogie Woogie + traditional Texas blues ( Texas Boogie). He learned at the lap of the greats like Lightnin Hopkins and T-Bone Walker. He definitely elevated the style into a whole new beast.
It always interesting to see someone who doesn't know the history or even the stature of who he's listening to and yet they still get the vibe that was SRV - one of the greatest 6 string players - RIP ....
If you can find the dvd “live at the el mocombo” the two guys supporting are “double trouble” Stevie is a bluesman but he could play Hendrix like no one. “Texas flood”,Pride & joy”
Ja, SRV was quite exceptional at playing Rock/Blues & Blues genre music. I've wondered if he had not most often inhibited himself to only das limited compositions/playing techniques of Blues music that possibly he could have become 1 of das 100s of Master Guitarists around das world. Many surely miss SRV. Auf Wiedersehen :-)
Welcome to the Master Class Blues club! Ain't got nothing to do with color! It's all heart! Ya gotta check out him a Copeland with Tin Pan Alley! That my friend... is Life Altering!!!
Stevie was a Genious but sadly left us too soon.... 💔 By the way he used Jimi Hendrix's old Wah Wah pedal, and it surely can be heard especially on this Jimi's Classic track! 😍 Greetings from Finland and Thank You of this Great Channel! 😀👌
Stevie and Jimi Hendrix, two of my favs, loud and proud. His guitar work copies Hendrix to a tee. If you get a chance and have equipment to do it, listen to this song side by side. Both were guitar masters. I was living 30 miles away, the day Stevie's helicopter crashed.
Fun facts about SRV: He used the strongest strings he could find, and he broke those strings regularly. His guitar was custom build by him he used parts from several makes and models to make it do the things he wanted to do. He gave his favorite guitar a name, “First Wife”. His crew said he absolutely abused his guitar and his crew were experts at repairs on that guitar. His band had to be on their toes to keep up during live shows because he would go off on his own and they better be able to keep up.
I have watched tons of reactions on this song and your the only one who said it right. “He has become one with his instrument”. 😝😝😝😝
I had the honor of playing his guitar. What people don't realize his strings are so high above the frets that every note that he plays is because his hands are so damn strong he has to push them down to the fret ! And that was why he is so clear he was truly born to play that instrument .
FINALLY!!!!! Someone who recognizes the bass contribution of Tommy Shannon!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was fortunate enough to se him live two weeks before he passed away and it was a show I'll remember the rest of my life.. If you haven't reacted to his live video of "Little Sister," it's one you'll truly be impressed by..:)
The WaWa peddle that Stevie used was Jimmy Hendrix’s. Jimmy’s family gifted Jimmy’s peddle to Stevie.
I didn't know that. Pretty cool. Srv always gave the props to jmi. You will love everything Stevie.
Holy heck I did not know that! That’s insane
What...choo...say?! I love knowing that.🤧❤️🎸🎶
Literally channeling Jimi...
Nice tidbit of info, thank you!
The entire band was phenomenal! To play with Stevie was no easy task! Stevie was from another planet when he played!
Texas Flood live at Macombo, jaw dropping
Thanks for the recommendation Steve! Adding to the list!
+1 for Texas Flood, I would also recommend Tin Pan Alley.

You should check out Texas Flood live at El Macombo
I prefer the performance live From Austin, TX to be honest.
While you're at it check out Little Wing live at El Mocambo too. The SRV rabbit-hole is very deep my friend. Strap in.
I think the El Macombo is the greatest performance I have ever seen. But, really, they are all great.
@@Rogue3269 Me too! By a lot!
@@Rogue3269 I agree. Interesting contrast: in Austin he was sober and his licks more precise.

Absolutely!! I've listened to a lot of music in my lifetime, including Bach, Beethoven, Mozart. Lenny is an absolute masterpiece!

Try "Look at Little Sister" from this same show. Great song, plus he breaks a string halfway thru and switches out guitars without missing a note.
We lost a lot when we lost Stevie. 😔

Tommy Shannon is one of the great blues-rock bassists. He was playing with Johnny Winter at Woodstock.

This man didn't read a note of music. God smiled on him upon conception!
Dude...you have jus been served!
Fun facts about SRV:
He used the strongest strings he could find, and he broke those strings regularly.
Stevie played what I call jazzy blues. It's a shame that he didn't get the recognition he deserved until after he died.
