I was in High School when this song came out and I went to the concert in Mobile, Al with my boyfriend Johnny Rodgers. I was in so much trouble when I got home...the next day. LOL. I'm 63 years old now. Good Times.
The reason this sounds familiar to MJ is that Quincy Jones produced this song. I saw the Brothers Johnson open for Quincy during the 70's. Background vocals on this song include Michael Jackson, Valerie Simpson (from Ashford and Simpson) and Merry Clayton, who sang with Joe Cocker and the duet with Mick Jagger on Gimme Shelter. The band was the two brothers on guitar and bass. Definitely need to hear: Get The Funk Out Ma Face, Strawberry Letter 23, and I'll Be Good To You. They're amazing!
@@ohfour-seven6228 ohhhh that make total sense now! I thought I was trippin for a second there! Lol 😂 I appreciate the info and adding your recommendations to the list. Thanks for watching! 🙌🏽
@@abovetheinfluence9361 I added you to my subscriptions last week, look forward to more of your discoveries. Lots of incredible people on that cut: Greg Phillinganes who played with MJ and The Jacksons, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Stevie Wonder, Steve Porcaro from Toto and Rod Temperton from Heatwave.
@@ohfour-seven6228 sheeeesh. All those legends on that ONE SONG? It’s like the musicians version of “We Are The World” lol 🔥🔥 And let me say this… thank you so much for subscribing. Truly means a ton. 🙏🏾
Louis Johnson aka Thunder Thumbs was 70s/80s bass innovator, along with Larry Graham and Marcus Miller. He's the bassist on Get On The Floor (great ear). The artists are literally Louis and brother George aka Lightning Licks. I'm not sure whether they had a set band membership. They got their start as session musicians with Quincy Jones, who helped transition them as recording artists. I'll Be Good To You, Get The Funk Out Of My Face, Blam, Ride-O-Rocket, Strawberry Letter 23, Q, Love Is. Like most songs back then, I first heard it on the radio. I believe it was a summer song and was blasted everywhere. BTW, the clear, distinctive voice in the background is Barry White. Quincy's classic r&b albums, Body Heat, Stuff Like That & The Dude, are basically collections of the baddest musicians around. You should explore those albums.
This song was played in every clubs. I was so lucky to grew up during that fun era !
