Elevate Your Shaving Routine!
In this video I shave with a straight razor using three different traditional razors. They all have the same sharp edge, the natural whetstone that was used was the coticule. The belgian coticule is a natural whetstone that produces a very comfortable and keen edge, it can go all the way from bevel setting to a fine finish, a truly wonderful one stone hone.

I go into topics about the belgian coticule while also talking about relaxing hobbies like the fight between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du plessis at UFC 305. While i'm shaving I also evaluate the three different razors and compare their edges with one another. Like always I read and reply to all of your comments so thanks for watching!

Want to use a coticule to get a sharp edge? This video shows you how to negotiate with different types of cutting coticules from a slow cutting coticule to a fast cutting coticule. These Edges Actually Work!

Watch me shave with two coticule edges! One coticule is a slow easy finisher, the other is a fast cutter perfect for that bevel setting stage. They are polar opposites but still manage to provide a similar cutting efficiency. For the price I think coticules provide the biggest range but also one of the nicest most comfortable edges you can get! Channels To Check Out: @BigEShaves @longhaultanker...
Effective Coticule Sharpening Process
Переглядів 496День тому
In this video, we’re taking a close look at the Belgian coticule-a stone that’s been the go-to for many who love a sharp, comfortable edge on their straight razors. This natural stone is loved by many, but there’s plenty of debate around the best way to use it. Should you hone under running water or with soapy water? Heavy slurry or thin slurry? Bevel setting on the coticule or on a synthetic? ...

How To Sharpen A Straight Razor - The Touch Up
Переглядів 58821 день тому
Starting to feel some tugging while shaving with your cutthroat razor? That might mean it's time for a touch-up. If a pasted strop didn't do the trick and your razor still feels dull, it likely needs some honing. Instead of doing a full bevel set progression, a quick touch-up honing session will get it back to optimal sharpness. Enjoying the content? Make sure to hit the like button and subscri...
This Is The Best Way To Shave!

In today's video, I'm diving into why shaving with a cut throat razor is the ultimate shaving experience. I'm using a custom traditional straight razor crafted by SK Collins. Though it’s labeled as a 7/8, it’s actually closer to an 8/8 - giving it that extra heft and precision. I whipped up some slick lather to complement the razor's sharp edge, making it glide effortlessly through the whiskers...

How To Bring An Edge Back To Life

In todays episode I show you how you can take a razor thats tugging and bring it back to life using paste on a strop. I go to the extreme and kill the edge on the stone, creating damage on the apex that no whisker no matter how thick can create, in other words if it worked in this example it will work for a razor that is tugging slightly. I find it important to mention that this will eventually...

    Lots of truth in there. Something I don't get..for folks who are practicing this as a 'hobby' something is off, 'the community' seem to dicard, or at least act very slow and unresponsive to new ideas and members. As a hobbyist I tend to find something mainsteam that works for me, but the MOST fun is the path exploration that follows, and the vast majority just seem to stick to the same old sad, repetative song and dance. I think many of us have very interesting findings but do not care to share them as we are pretty sure that the reception is going to be critical or pretencious. Hi Sean, good video, as always. As stated before, I think I need to stay on the stone longer.. But what confuses me is when honers talk about fast, medium, and slow coticules in combination with slurry (makes all the sense when run without, though). The granats in the slurry can come from two sources, right. The bottom stone or the rubbing stone. So would it not be equal if you use a fast bottom stone with a slow rubbing stone or the other way around (assuming the same number of free granats in the slurry).. so we should be able to get several mixes.. fastxfast (most aggressive) to slowxslow (pre polishing). To me, this seems to be the same as the JNAT where you keep the base the same and swap rubbing stones.. Btw got home yesterday and got to have a proper shave this morning following 2 weeks of cartridge use.. Lol, what a pleasure.. //J

    • @seanstapelfeld
      @seanstapelfeld 5 днів тому

      @@dnamol Thank you my friend for that wonderful comment! So the way I learned it is this way. 1. Garnets are what make the razor keen because it’s what is abrading the steel. 2. Since these are naturals the garnets inside each stone can differ, in other words there can be more quantity of garnets in one stone than another. 3. You have softer stones and harder stones when it comes to coticules, I think this refers to the material that is holding the garnets in place, think about the yellow part of the stone you see… like synthetics that is the material holding the abrasives in place. 4. I think you’re absolutely correct in using a hard rubbing stone when using a soft base stone because that will help keep it flat but in that case the abrasive that will be coming out will be mostly from the soft stone. 5. If you had a hard stone as the base and used a soft stone to rub then it would mostly have garnets from the soft rubbing stone. 6. I always like using soft and hard because with using two hard stones then it can scratch the surface of both the base stone and rubbing stone. With two soft stones I don’t think this is a big problem. 7. Even if you have a soft stone it can still be a slow cutter depending on how many garnets that particular cut of stone has inside of it. 8. This is why some people say “this stone is slow on slurry or slow on water” because even though you see a milk slurry there might be few garnets in the mix and it can also work the other way around if you have a stone that has a lot of garnets inside the clay like material holding the garnets together. This clay like material is called “lutum”. So to recap the white slurry you see doesn’t necessarily mean there is a lot of garnets in the mix… the white slurry you see is the “lutum” inside of there are garnets and depending on the stone it can have a lot of garnets or few… the garnets are so small you probably can’t see them without a microscope. I hope this helps my friend. I am no expert so if I’m wrong on something I’m sorry, I’m just passionate about coticules hehe I hope you have a great weekend my friend!

    Good stuff Sean. I'm going to find time on Saturday to revisit my coticule. It's a slow stone so I won't try to bevel set with it - I'll go from a synthetic to a medium-heavy slurry on the coti and dilute from there and see where it takes me. I'll use Devan's approach and check with a packing peanut at each stage to see if I'm moving forward or taking a step back.

    • @seanstapelfeld
      @seanstapelfeld 6 днів тому

      That's what it's all about my friend, these stones are very versatile, I feel like they give the most comfortable edge... I did a shaving video with the razor and it was perfection! might drop it tomorrow. What is your most comfortable edge on a razor?
