    Excellent shave, the edge performance appeared effortless. Congratulations on a great buy on your Jant. I’m always stoked when I get one with range and hard enough to excel as a finisher. You will never forget your first good big jnat. Can’t wait to see more results.

      Thank you Eric for helping me throughout this process... I'm really happy, now I just need to seal that bad boy and we are good 2 go. I could see myself also setting the bevel on a coti and jumping into a Jnat... is that something you also do?

    • @BigEShaves

      @@seanstapelfeld No, I don’t mix them up. To me there two different animals all together. When I hone on a coti, I never scope or loop. I don’t care, none of what I am seeing matters. That is if I starting with no issues on the apex, no chipping or pitting. If there is I would correct that on 1k, and thoroughly inspect before starting process on any stone.
      On a Jnat, like a synthetic, I do watch bevel and apex with my loop. If I feel froggy, I may look at it under a scope. But if I have the feel and undercut thru the process and it hits HHT, no reason for me to bother with a scope. But I don’t judge those who do, whatever makes a man happy, makes me happy.

      @@BigEShaves I like how you put it “two different monsters” I will keep honing and writing down what seems to work and what doesn’t. I’ll try to get a feel for the stone and what’s happening, I like that with naturals and cotis in particular. Thank you for all the wise words and tips, I appreciate them!

      I love the scratchy sound of doing XTG even tho fools pass is the best for asmr i still need to practice it, it just doesn't come natural yet but like they say, practice makes perfect hehe... I was thinking of using a card or something on my face so people can hear the stubble at the beginning of the video, what do you think, good idea?

      Thank you so much Martin! I have to say I live and breathe this hobby. Whenever I have time off from work or at home relaxing I am watching videos and reading and learning from those who have posted content like yourself! My significant other always tells me that i'm always watching men shave, ha! What do you think Marti? About the one stone hone on the coti? Decent but could be better right? Happy Sunday!

      @seanstapelfeld2192 one hone on coti's is wonderful, but the coti and the slurry vary quite a bit ....I've had good and average results due to these variables, enjoy our hobby before it's banned, now straight razors can't be posted by Royal Mail in the pussy UK.

      @@Martins-Shaves123 oh my god are you serious? That is so backwards in my opinion, I hope they never ban it, I don’t know about you but I’m starting to think this world is going backwards. Instead of progressing we are slowly getting dumber as a society.

    Nice work and progress with the new JNat and OSH.
    If I may, can I suggest that you test the use of a wet towel or wash cloth over a dry one during the shave process. Years back I read somewhere that water is the substance most helpful in the cutting of hair.
    Have a great week.

    Hi Sean. Congrats on your Jnat. With a Mikawa Asano nagura set (Botan, Tenjyou, Mejiro) you can go from coarse to ultra fine. This sequence is common these days for using a hard finishing Jnat as a one hone stone :) Having gone down the Jnat rabbit hole, I find it hard to remember that I have a coti and an Ark.

    • @seanstapelfeld
      @seanstapelfeld  2 місяці тому +2

      Thank you Greg, I always appreciate your insight. At the moment I have botan and mejiro but I haven’t used them yet. I’m excited to do as you recommended. I have seen your coti in one of your videos, I’m curious, do you go to the ark after coti?

    • @greggallant5058
      @greggallant5058 2 місяці тому +1

      @@seanstapelfeld Except for the last two videos, I always go to the Black Ark (with soapy water or with glycerin) after the Coti. There are two ways to texture the black Ark; burnish it until it’s shiny, or texture it with a diamond stone. I texture. I think Eric does too, but can’t remember exactly. The cotis and the Ark are slow stones and I’m slow, so that’s not the best combination. The Jnats were too slow for me for Japanese knives, but I find them great for razors.

    • @seanstapelfeld
      @seanstapelfeld  2 місяці тому +1

      @@greggallant5058 thank you Greg! I have a small little ark stone that needs upgrading but I think I would also texture if I ever got a bigger one and follow your footsteps. When it comes to your speed I think you’re just right. I enjoy the way you hone and how meticulous you are. Wishing you a happy Sunday my friend and I’ll be waiting for your next upload!

      I typically shave with an edge finished on a natural stone, Coti, French Black Shadow, and sometimes Vermont Green. The green is really inexpensive but I’ve achieved some nice edges. I haven’t ventured into Jnats yet, but I do want to.
