@@WaxbellShaving thank you my friend! If anything this goes to show you can shave with 5k but the question is, is it as comfortable? For me the answer is no it’s not as comfortable as those higher grit synthetics and definitely not as comfortable as naturals
I did this once when testing out a black slate from ebay to see what kind of range that it had. It shaved but my skin was not happy afterword. But it is all in the process of learning and understanding. It helps you appreciate the finer stones and quality. Good show not pushing the razor, understanding its capabilities and not pushing it to far. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you my friend! I think his name is "Pete" he goes by the name "theshavingcyclist" he gave me the tip when going ATG to not push it, if the razor doesn't do it naturally just let it be or go with a different angle. This was a fun experiment to do and document but like you said it sure as heck makes you appreciate those finer stones hehe cheers my friend!
Great exercise. I do this every few months, it’s hard to make yourself do it. People throw around phrases like, “That’s only a 5 or 8k edge” way too often when speaking of naturals specifically. Yet they don’t have the stones to do what you did tonight. It’s easy to talk the talk, I think we should walk the walk. IMO, there is not better way to judge your edges than a direct face feel comparison. In truth you should he able to shave aloft 1k easily, now you will feel like crap after. I may have forgot to mention that 😂.
Yes I do haha the burn wasn’t there initially but after a few minutes it started thankfully it’s gone now just a mild burn. Even when shaving arm hair I feel my arm hair isn’t as coarse as my facial hair so a razor I hone might cut arm hair well but skip a little with my facial hair that is a bit tougher so I like what you said about face feel and edges. Cheers my friend!
Hi Sean. Well I mean sorry to hear the post shave feel on the 1,5 and 5 was bad. On the other hand I was actually surprised you can shave off a low grit edge. Many people doubt you can shave off of an 8k edge. Have a good hump day
Thank you my friend! Oh yes you can shave from low grit edges but the face feel won’t be the best. I actually shaved off 8k a while back when I had my shapton melon following Devan Jackson who also shaved from his 8k. That 8k shave unlike these 2 were pretty good face feeling. Cheers my friend, thanks for always stopping by!
I won’t be doing it again hehe the after shave feel was really bad… yes you can shave with 5k but is it worth it? The answer for me is definitely not worth it.
thin bevels flex when the going gets tough, thus nicks happen easier from my experience. also 5k ain’t helping either. your skin will likely hate you later on today. best wishes Sean
You’re 100% correct Jacques and shortly after my skin hated me. I’ve also experienced better after shaves after having a decent amount of growth like 3-5 days but not sure if it’s just me. Thank you Jacques hope you have a wonderful week.
That was really interesting. Great video!

This why I’ve never assigned a grit rating to a stone. I might say the Zulu feels much like my xx stone, but that’s as far as I go.
@@longhaultanker very wise Leon! At the end of the day we shave with a razor wether or not it has x or y grit rating. Cheers my friend
@@longhaultanker it’s easier said then done. I have to at stop myself often. I try to keep it to, bevel set, mid range, and polish.

Interesting shave. 5k… go ahead, not me. 😮
