    NYC is no longer a nice city. Call it what it is. I live here and it is infested with crime, drugs, fraud, and guns. Brought here by the illegals that have been dumped here. lived here in Manhattan for 30 yrs and can no longer walk or take bus/trains in safety. Cannot wait to leave permanently within a yr. Anyone saying anything positive about NYC is lying about the truth. I wouldn't send a child to NYC to my alma mater NYU or friends/family for a week of theatre or a walk in Central Park. It is disgraceful what it has become.

    Social security (sécurité sociale) doesn't cover 100 %, you need a private insurance called "Mutuelle" to pay the rest (example: if you need glasses, the "securité sociale" will pay you a certain %, and the "mutuelle" the rest. Depending of what "contract mutuell" you choose, if 100 %, 200 %, 300 % or 400 %. Employees pay a small amount (30 to 60 €/month) and the company covers the rest. It is very interesting because actually a "mutuelle for the lowest contract 100 %, is at least 130 €/months). Be aware that as entrepreneur, you are not allowed to "chômage" (unemployed indemnity) in case you get hill and can't work anymore. It is important to have a special insurance.

    Public healthcare in Portugal is hours of wait for the locals as well as the foreigners. It's a long wait as it's over crowded (the locals will tell you this). If you go to Private healthcare facilities, it's much easier, they get you in right away and spend time with you. I would just pay for private healthcare access. It's so much nicer, better service and quicker. And high quality doctors as well. :)

    Portugal is a great country for a vacation. Nazareth is a beautiful small town. If somebody would move from New York, Chicago would not be happy. Quite boring after a while. Winter time inside is colder than outside. Make sure that try out at least a year before you move. Money is important that not everything. In small town people do not speak English. Bottom line is make sure that you can deal with all of the difficulties in Portugal. If you like it go for it.

    Hello. Thank you taking the time to make these videos. Could you please add income Taxes to your list of questions? I know in Portugal they have removed the Non habitual tax break, which I actually agree with, and that really affects you income. Thanks man. Cool hat

    • @adventurefreaksss
      @adventurefreaksss 3 дні тому

      Thank you for this information. I attempted to cover what incomes would be taxed in other videos but it's always complicated. Expats from the US have to file both in the US and their new country. Some countries have a dual taxation treaty with the US but you still have to file and one will off set the other. Expats share that they hire a tax expert that works with expats to file there taxes each year. So we don't cover it any longe because most expats leave it up to the experts to figure it out. In Portugal, they just changed the NHR, which only taxed your income by 10%. Now it is much higher and many are looking elsewhere. I hope this helps a bit!

      It's true. Nararé was a fishing port where you could buy fish on auction sale. I am not sure is still the case, as I haven't been to Nazaré since many years. It was a nice and little village, as many in Portugal or anywhere. Unfortunatly, expats/turisms brings news buildings, new cultures and traditions get lost. All the coasts in France, Portugal, Spain, looks the same. Same turists shops with products "made in China", same restaurants, and even same people and same language (wicht for most, are not locals).

    I was born in Uruguay (Pocitos, Montevideo) and I have been living in Canada for the last 40+ years. If you are a single person or a couple and planning to rent, you must have a minimum income of US$3000/3500 and then you will be comfortable and I recommend moving to Uruguay. Then you can enjoy all that Uruguay has to offer. You can live in a nice, safe place, you can travel, have fun, eat out, and pay all your utility bills and grocery bills without fainting at the tilt. I am writing this to let people know that Uruguay is not a cheap place to live permanently if you have a low income in retirement. You will have to dig deep into your savings and investments every single month to be able to have a good life in Uruguay. This is something I am not comfortable with. I like to keep my safety net. I am retired senior on a low income due to the kind of job I did for all my working life here, but I do have savings and investments. I chose a low paying job that made me very happy and I don't regret it. My dream was (and still is) to retire in Uruguay. I have family and good friends there and Uruguay has a very strong hold on my heart. The truth is that I don't think I could have the same good quality of life I have here. I am frugal, I rent a very nice and safe apartment and I have a 13 year good old car. I am very active at the senior's activities centers and going to the gym regularly. In Uruguay, with a decent, nice place to rent and its utilities, plus phone, Internet, cable/Netflix, gym membership, health care and transportation, (all I have here) I would not have much money left to pay for healthy food, let alone grass fed beef. Food is incredible expensive in Uruguay. My family and friends tell me so. I know it's true every time I visit. Going to the supermarket or anywhere else with US$100 doesn't go far at all, even less with my Canadian dollars. The summers are too hot and the winters are extremely cold (due to the high humidity) and renting an apartment in a nice area with heating and air conditioning it isn't cheap. Yes, less expensive than here nowadays, but that is not my point. US$250?? (I saw another video from Ramona) no way. Maybe a room in somebody's home. I love Uruguay and I strongly believe that it is a beautiful place to live and enjoy, as long as you have the high income to do it. Some of the numbers I see here are not the reality. Even though show tickets, taxis, buses and eating out is not as expensive as here, all of those things add up at the end of the month. More if you add art classes like I do here. I know I can still go to Uruguay for the rest of my days with the income I have here and be with family and friends, but I would be struggling there, and as I'm getting older, that's something I don't want to do. It scares me. Here, in Canada, I feel safe. I would love to go to another country to be able to do a lot more things and live a better life with my income, but Uruguay it's not the place. And, unfortunately, no other country, but my own, would give me the peace, safety and happiness that Uruguay would. Having a bicycle sounds idyllic, I tried it, but Uruguay has a lot of unleashed and untrained dogs that love to chase you on the streets and try to bite your legs. Very scary and off putting. The more you pay on rent, the less dangerous your life will be. Things after the pandemic are not the same in Uruguay, as the same is happening in the rest of the world. Montevideo (capital) has a lot of immigrants now from other Latino American countries, and begging, homelessness, crime and scams are rampant. I will also post this under the video, that way seniors in my situation don't miss what I have to say. It would be very disheartening and crashing for someone to pack their belongings and think that they are moving to a place like Bali or Thailand where the cost of life it is, indeed, very affordable for low monthly income individuals. Uruguay is a beautiful country and I love it, it's progressive, liberal, cosmopolitan, the food and wine are amazing, it's endless "Costa de Oro" with its beaches is breathtaking, the people are friendly, but it is VERY expensive. The title is so misleading. Even though show tickets, taxis, eaten out, tango and art classes might be less expensive than here, things add up at the end of the month. Don't go to Uruguay with a low income if you don't want to struggle and not be able to do the fun things you wish you could do here, specially in Canada. Uruguay has the Uruguayan peso, but almost everything is dealt in US dollars.

      The requirement must match whatever is the French minimum wage, called the "SMIC" in French. That is a great deal.
